Name my baby

Archive: 59 posts

My girlfriend is pregnant and we have been looking at names all night. I figured I would pop in and see if anyone would like to throw some suggestions our way. If it helps I am mostly Portuguese and Italian and she is mostly Polish. I know right. So anyway, I don't want names that are really rally common like Ashley or John, in case they are beautiful names.

?Bene!

I've always liked Lily. For a boy... Kyle. Short names do it for me...

Matt, out.

Hello and congratulations! I expect it's early days yet? Are you finding out what sex?
Well, how about I just give you a rundown of some of the names of my own kids and my various nieces and nephews and see if you like any of them? I've put the country of origin in brackets where I know it.
Girls:
Ainsley (English) (daughter #1)
Nadia (Ukraine) (daughter #2)
Tegan (Welsh) (daughter #3)
Brooke
Tiarne (??)
Portia
Chelsea
Sheridan
Scarlett
Indiana
Miriam

Boys:
Ari
Spencer
Nathan
Jet
Loughlin (Scottish spelling, the Irish spelling is Lachlan, apparently)
Marshall
There are other nephew names but they're more common like Jake, Jordan, Jonathon, Josh... lots of J names :/ No idea why.

Not sure if that's any help. Good luck with it all. When we were pregnant with our first child, I had a list of over 200 names I'd been keeping in the back of my journal for that very situation but my husband didn't like any of them. NOT ONE! He did offer suggestions - names of girls he'd dated, which were shot down pretty quickly. Our oldest (Ainsley) was nameless for 2 days while we went through baby books trying to agree... May your choosing be much more smooth and co-operative

If it's a girl, call it Bob.

If it's a guy, call it Casandra.

I mean, that would be different, right?

Unisex names are the way forward! Think Jamie or Taylor.

If you're really feeling adventurous you could give your child a modern name to fit in with today's growing internet obsession, something like EliteSnipa489.

Kevin! Just kidding, I kind of hate my name.

That name always reminds me of the cartoon 'Ed Edd n Eddy'.
Then all I can think about is Ed's laughing D:
OH THE HORROR.

Carl, Sean, John, Paul, George, Rick.

Ana, Julia, Prudence, Lucy, Patty, Peggy.

All I got for now. Congrats on the upcoming creature

I noticed you left out Ringo

EDIT: Ohhh Rick. As in Richard, right? I didn't even see that there.

Name him/her 'Stay' - that way you can go "Come here, stay! Come here! Stay!"

OR

Boy = Axl/Duff/Izzy/Slash/Steven/Matt/Gilby/Dizzy
Girl = Axl/Duff/Izzy/Slash/Dizzy

OR

Boy = Mark (my name)
Girl = Laura (what I was going to be called if I popped out as a female).

For a boy I'm not sure but I always liked the name Lucas.

LOL! If your girlfriend is a fan of the Twilight series, perhaps you can do a Bella and smoosh together the names of both your parents into something original (and quite horrific if not done well.. which it wasn't)
Example: Renee + Esme = Renesmee *gag*
OR Charlie + Carlisle = Carlie

For me it would be Lesle + Lynne = Leslynne... or Lynsle
John + Richard = Richon or Johard, maybe? Hmmm... maybe not.

Buuut, it would keep all the parents and in-laws happy, although you'll both likely look like a couple of fools. But just thought I'd put the option out there

For a girl I love the names Chloe and Lily. They are gorgeous names.

For a boy, I don't particularly have a favourite name. Sorry.

Imke (girl) or Imeda (boy)

I think Imke means 'skilled'. I know for sure that Imeda means 'hope'....

They are both names used in my book

And while I'm at it I might as well slip my nae in there Fergus means 'man of valor' (For boys obviously )

I like Anthony, its a usual name but I like it.
Chloe is a very good name, but I would have to worry about her wanting to kill the camera man. (I really like Uncharted 2)
Dude, your name is Darious? That's like a video game character's name. You weren't named after Hootie and the Blowfish were you?

Our daughter is named Aleigha--pronounced Ahleeah. She loves it and it's unique.

For a boy, I prefer strong names like Mason.

Some advice--stay away from names like Terrance and Pippy...could lead to a very painful existence.

For a girl, I'd lean towards more delicate and graceful names, such as:
Annalisa
Ariel
Sierra
Clarabelle
Isabelle
Rose
Elise

For a boy, I'd prefer a medium name; nothing outrageous like Sparticus or something run-of-the-mill like Kyle, but more like:
Andre
Givanni
Othello
Vente
Lorenzo
Ty
Samuel

But then again, it's your choice. Lucinda does sound like a lovely name, though.

tfp, if you don't want a common name then steer clear of Chloe, I think that's the current #1 name for girls, or at least it was a couple of years ago :S

I only know one Anthony my age, though.

try a foreign name, if he/she has a foreign name, everyone will think he/she is cool. try Vazgen or Leonardo or B?rick or something like that. i ended up with an american name, sadly and i feel like i dont stand out in a crowd. Be original when choosing names, John and Joseph and all those other common names make you seem like an average joe and thats just not fun. he/she could be as famous as Shia Lebouf, thats a weird name too2010-01-30 08:05:00
