Why use LBP for PSP?

Archive: 12 posts

I was wondering why people here play and/or create with LittleBigPlanet for PSP. For me it's something to fall back on when my girlfriend has occupied the PS3. Now let's hear your reasons!

I'm assuming here that you indeed are using the PSP version. If not, what are you doing poking around here anyway!?

I use it whenever I'm traveling, (car rides, plane rides, etc.) and when my brother is hogging the PS3. 2010-01-12 14:11:00

I don't have time for games at home - all my time at home is for my family. So I play games only during my way to work and back home.2010-01-12 15:19:00

I've just started a thread that sums up my answer actually, and it is none of the options there!

I can play on my ps3 whenever I want but I sometimes still choose to create on the PSP.

Reason being it's a totally different community and you get a totally different experience through them.

Hey, no fair luring away people from my thread!

I'd categorise you under option 3, preferring the PSP, but I suppose I should have some answer like "I like them both." Can't change a poll after you create it, though, can you?

Hmmm, I use LBP PSP because:

a) I'm a lazy person so turning on the PS3, waiting for it to load LBP and then loading the creator etc. is sometimes too much effort for me... especially is I'm tired and I don't wanna climb up all those stairs!

b) I love, love, love the new corner edit tool and how it's pretty much necessary to make anything. The easiest thing for me about creating is using the corner edit tool to create worlds and maniulate the layers and this is now a key part of creating. I find m levels seem to have a much larger quality than those I've made on PS3.

c) The general accepted length of levels is shorter on PSP, so I can finish a level before I run dry of ideas or run out of gameplay mechanics etc. Of course this isn't alwas the case on PS3, but it's normal for a level to be at least 5-10 minutes as opposed to the shorter length on PSP.

So yeah there you go, why I create on PSP

I use my PSP on road trips and such.
Although I don't create much on the PSP version, sometimes I like tinker around in create mode.
I do prefer the PS3 version though.

I marked choice #2 on the poll, but my reasons for creating on the PSP are a combination of answers everybody else has posted here.

I tend to stay up late to play my video games, and I am also a self-proclaimed addict. I refuse to be inconsiderate and make her watch me play games, so while my wife is still awake I consider the TV to be hers. I get a lot of time on my PSP while romantic movies and girly shows about dresses are on the tube, thus the time I spend on LBP PSP. Other reasons I like the PSP version of the game are:

As Coxy mentioned, "Bite-sized" levels on the PSP are MUCH easier to think of, create, troubleshoot, and playtest. Sometimes I really need to get myself mentally "revved up" to dive into create mode on the PS3 - it can be a monumental task sometimes.
I also have to agree with Coxy about the corner edit tool. It is fantastic as compared to the PS3 version and a pleasure to use.
Expectations are lower on the PSP. I know this is a sell-out kind of answer, but it's the truth. There are no decorations, no lighting effects, no paintinator, no water, no photo stickers, fewer layers.... For me there's just more pressure on the PS3 to make a level that's up to par, while with the PSP it's an exercise to see what you can do with the limited tools you have. It's fun!
The LBP PSP "sub-community" we have going here is fun to hang out with, so here I am!

Heh, sounds familiar. I can usually claim the PS3 in the evening, cause my girl can play during the day, but when it's Project Runway or Grey's Anatomy... no way.

Sounds like #3 is more your choice...

For me, it's all about killing the train journey in the morning, and the LBP editor does it perfectly; I can spend as little or as much time as I like making levels, and then stop and save at my own pace, instead of having to stop halfway through a level, which can be kind of jarring if it's an action game. My Playstation 3 gets used a few times a week, for an hour or two at a time. It feels like a lot more 'serious' game experience, which has its own attraction. My PSP sessions have a more light-hearted 'secret world' feel because the console's pocket-sized.

The only problem I have with the PSP version is that I've found the shifting bolts/emitters/materials a pain in edit mode (so I'm waiting for the update and haven't published anything yet).

LBP on the PS3 has excellent visuals, LBP on the PSP has portability, and for me portability wins with a game editor like this.
