Oh fairy tales~ We all grew up with them. From Goldilocks and the three bears to Hansel and Gretel. These were pretty entertaining stories. But now with entertainment moving from reading books to playing video games. Everyone has forgotten about them. (Hell.. I had to think for abit to remember the two fairy tales stated above) but thanks to Mnniska, one of those fairy tales makes the transition with a little bit of sack added for good measure. This is LBL: Little red riding sack and the sneaky H4Her! (Part 1)

The level starts out with a Prologue that basically tells that Riding sack (you) has to deliver hearts and yum to your grandmother. Your mother then waves you goodbye and tells you not to talk to H4Hers, gives you your hearts and yum and you set off on your journey, using day and night's effects on the forest to your advantage so that you may get one step closer to Grandma's and solve the challenges that the forest's terrain poses for you. After getting past three of these challenges. We leave Riding sack alone, to see the fairy tale take place from the perspective of another character....

Yes! You now play as the hungry H4Hing Wolf,(distinguished by the fact you are now covered in black paint) as he complains that his H4Hing levels have become unplayed since the water pack came out. He then gets excited when he smells Riding sack and her hearts. You run into her and ask her where she is going with those hearts and she complains that she still has a long way to go until Grandma's house. So you generously offer to deliver the hearts for her. A cute loading screen comes up and you appear in the forest. You then eat all the hearts she gave you, but now consumed by greed, want more hearts, so you head for grandma's house to get her's too. After some hard platforming.. you find some hearts and eat them, only to find out it is a trap and you are caught by the fairy of the forest though you manage to escape and continue your way to grandma's house. You get out of the forest and the perspective changes again.

You are now little red riding sack who has just arrived to her Grandmother's house and when she comes in.. Guess who's there? None other than the wolf.. Sleeping like a baby after eating Grandma's hearts (including the organ)
You then decide you must plan out how you will get your grandmother out...

Aesthetics: This level changes looks depending on whether you're riding sack or the wolf. Riding Sack's part of the level is very bright.. very colorful.. Heck, there are blending color splatters everywhere too. It looks alot like a cartoon book and fits the happier fairy tale. The Wolf's side of the level is very dark, very realistic and serious. Which fits the more darker and eviler fairy tales. Even though.. I find Riding sack's part of the level to be better looking than the Wolf's side. This isn't to say the wolf's side is bad.. because it's not.. It's just the type of material used for Wolf's side is abit more common than what riding sack had for her grass. and what-not. Either way.. It looks good. Including Riding Sack's model when you meet her as the wolf and her mom.

Gameplay: Just as the Aesthetics are so different between Riding sack and Wolf. So is the type of Gameplay for each. Riding Sack's side is mostly puzzles. These puzzles are very well done and did stump me for awhile. To help you solve these puzzles, you switch the level between day and night in where something moves, this opens up a way not open before. In case you do get stumped really badly.. There is a help button. All you do is place a sticker on top of it and the Fairy spirit will help you with what you need to do. My favorite puzzle was probably the one where you must Rotate a two way switch that is hanging vertically.. and you use the paintinator to to switch it between day and night. But if say you turn the switch to day.. You must then rotate the switch so the handle is facing downward and then use the power of the paintinator to push the handle the other way.. turning it into night. There are about 3 of these puzzles for Riding Sack. All very fun to play. A small problem is that maybe the magnetic keys in one of these levels could've been attached to something abit lighter maybe. Since it was sorta hard to drag that key uphill. I had to constantly tap X and once it fell all the way back down. Now the Wolf's side is way different than this. Wolf's side is mostly heavy platforming. Lots of grabbing and risky movement. It is varied though. You have your normal jump here to there.. There's a cart you ride downwards and jump off of and catch onto a swing which you use the propulsion from that to get to the wall and cling to it. You then move from there. What I really liked here were the moving platforms. Basically you would grab onto a platform. It would take you somewhere else where you would find another moving platform and grab onto that one quickly. The platforming part I found to be hard here was the wall clinging. You're basically on the ceiling and must traverse through the ceiling with a good grip because if you let go.. you will fall into some spikes. Also during the first time playing.. after the ceiling cling through the spikes.. where you had to use the swing to try and go through the hole by auto planing. I got caught in in the wall of that hole and fell down to the spikes. But if you just try going through it with a good swing then it'll all work out. You then also collect hearts as the wolf. You press R1 to eat them. That was also nice. However the story isn't balanced that well. It's about 40% riding sack/ 60% wolf. So while the Riding sack's side is more intricate.. it is also shorter. I feel the checkpoints should've been closer to the ground where they could easily be touched without interrupting the game. I found myself at times jumping to get the checkpoint or just forgetting about it all together and redoing big chunks of the game. Also an infinite Checkpoint would be easier on the mind.

Length: This is a good long level. Took me about 10- 15 minutes to beat entirely.

Exploration: There is plenty of exploration to do here. There are score bubbles in higher up places that you'd try and get if you're going for the high score.

Dangers: There are alot of natural dangers. More for the Wolf than for Riding sack. Spikes in alot of places. Gas. What I didn't like though was that instead of having something abit more natural for a danger in one of the parts (such as a slab of coal) they had a slab of electricity. But I mean Electricity in a Forest just makes it more of a fairy tale.. Amirite?

Overall: 9/10
This level is really something you should play. The varying styles of gameplay and Aesthetics between the Wolf and Riding sack make it appealing to more people. Though at times the Wolf's platforming may frustrate you ( such as wall clinging) and Riding Sack's strength isn't enough to push a magnetic key. This is still a great fairy tale and you shoud play it. I hope that Part 2 really manages to go beyond the bar that LRL: LRRS and the sneaky H4Her! has set for it. So go out and play it. Have fun!

Thanks for reading~

Ah,what a great review. Lot's of small things you mencioned,I'll try to fix them today. Just what I needed!

Also, about the un-balance between the charaters. I also noticed this, and the reason is mostly becouse I could not come up with more puzzles (seriously I came up with the last one while doodling and it took around 3 hours just to get the concept),but also becouseyou will almost only play as LRRS in the sequel, when you will try to save granny

Anyway, thanks for the review! I'll try to fix the problems you mencioned today!

Great review and great level.

@Mnniska : Could you tell me how you do a couple of things because I don't know how it's done. Firstly in the scene in the 3rd picture above I noticed that if you move around the speech from the magic mouth follows you. How? If it's a player tracker how does that work in conjunction with magic mouths?
Secondly I think shortly after that you walk behind some scenery and when you reappear you're all black. Again how? I can only think of emitted paintballs stickered black but I couldn't hear the paintball sound.

Thanks.

Ah,good questions there.

The following speech bubbles: Yes i simply used a player tracker. I had a piece of cardboard with mouths on following the player

Getting black: I got the black popit, fired a shot with the paintinator, captured the black paint ball and had emitters emitt them, colouring the player.

if you play it again io think you'll be able to hear the sound of paintballs

I'm glad you were able to enjoy the level!
