Elemental: Temple of Fire *SPOTLIGHTED*

Elemental: Temple of FireShawneboi
Deep within the Earth's surface, Sackboy finds himself presented with a new challenge, The Temple of Fire! The first in a series of levels pitting Sackboy against the four elements, The Temple of Fire brings forth classic platforming with a few puzzles along the way. I tried to capture an underground feel in this "Fiery" atmosphere, and I hope you enjoy it!

Wow you seriously undersell yourself in this thread. This level is amazing, it has a great constant design throughout and a real "fiery" atmosphere.

The platforming is solid, although there is a bit too much running around pulling levers for my liking.

On the section with the bells however I encountered a problem with the last bell on the lowest level, without any way to grab them I had to repeatedly jump back onto the platform then into the bell to get it to ring. Even then i had to make it swing quite a bit.

I'd consider moving the key slightly closer for that one.

Also on the next section with the stairs its possibly to leap from the upper level directly to the ledge on the left, bypassing that puzzle.

All together though its a solid level, great style to it and I look forward to the rest in the series!

:star::star::star::star::star: and a Heart from me.

If you're in the mood for F4F you could try Ninjas Vs. Pirates (Link in my sig)

keep up the good work mate.

As the previous poster stated, you kept true to the theme all the way through the level. I didn't doubt for a moment that I was in a fire temple.
Well done decorating the level as well, I really liked the door ways and windows.

The only thing that bugged me was the water bit, I had a tough time navigating the blocks into their spots.

Before i try it, how multiplayer compatible is your Elemental series?

Its good, you may lose some of the camera angles due to separation, but i've played with 4 players and its works great!

VERY nice level man!

I liked the sliding floor turning to stairs revealing the doorway, and I really liked the ringing bells part
The platforming could be a bit tricky though between the final platform activated by bell 1 and the platform carrying bell 2 due to a rapid change of camera.

I don't know how advanced a logic user you are, but I felt it was a shame that the bells kept ringing and there was no effect beyond the first ring...

You could add some stress on the players by timing the duration the platforms would be raised to like 2 secs after each ring. Then when the bell stopped ringing, the platforms would lower back into the fiery pit. The time you had to make the jumps then depended on how hard you swung the bell in the first place. You could also make the oscillations of the bells fewer by perhaps dampening the bell with a invisible spring attached perpendicular to the side of it. This would increase the stress even further. I don't know If that whats you are looking for though

Anyway - a very very nice level!

4 stars and a heart from me!

Writing as i play.

Single-player write-up:
Opened the level and hmm... i appear to be standing on some flames. Walk right, a column of flames and a bunch of red glowing score bubbles! cool! Fall down a coule ledges then... i appear to be stuck... Oh wait theres a switch on the right! might want to highlight that a tad more.

Well themed so far, i hop down the stairs. Hopped through the flame columns getting singed once. Nice touch! Down the elevator, and right.

Ooh, score bubbles! well themed section too... Continuing right, there is none. I spot the switch and hit it; i thought it let me go right but then i spotted the switches and continued dow.

Went right and down through the narrow passageway (borrowing a little from sonic, eh?). Took me a minute to figure out how to get across the fire; was it supposed to burn me even though i was only on the edge? Hit the switches and went up then right.

Liked the bell thing though the second one was a bit hard to see. The hidden passageways thing was cool, i liked it a lot! Left and up the elevator, then right collecting points.

it would be cool if when you hit the bridge over fire part the peices of the bridge started falling. Cool water puzzle -- though it could use a little more lighting. Also, i had no clue that i had missed putting one in barely -- if the lights on the bricks lit up after insertion that would be so much more helpful.

The execution of the watter part was very good though i find it a little hard to belive that there's water in a fire temple.

Overall, the level was awesome and i didn't really see anything you needed to change beyond adding some light in a couple areas to make things clearer. 5 stars + heart and Beautiful tag.

Co-op coming soon!

Thanks for the detailed reviews! I added light indicators next to the door in the water section, so you'll know when the switch has been triggered. And I couldn't resist putting water in, they released it just as I was finishing this level!2010-01-20 02:18:00

Coop:

My friend got stuck on some walls near the start. I did to but didn't consider it to be too big of a problem then; maybe put some railing there so the player doesnt jump into the background? Also, the elevators should go only when everyone is in. Other than that there's nothing notably different about the coop play.

Man, fantastic scenery building Shawn. I was just impressed by the sheer look and intuitive layout of the level. You also show mastery of mood lighting as well. I really enjoyed the level visually, but the game play was a little mild. I wish there were other things to do but pull switches. I actually got excited when it turned to ringing bells, lol. It was still fun and all, don't get me wrong, it just needs a little more variety. Even if it's just changing the type of switch like a button of even better, a statue in the right spot etc, like in the under water section. Great job.2010-01-23 01:07:00

Hi

Just returning the F4F favour - really moody level - loved the bells idea although I did get stuck under one preventing me from jumping but nothing too bad. Overall very well designed and constructed. Liked the way the different passageways were created within the 3 layers. Other than that maybe something/creatures to spice it up a bit more. Great job!

Well done on the spotlight too

Hearted you and gave 4 stars

I loved your water temple level so I checked this one out as well. I must say, it was very good, just as good as the water temple. I really liked the bell ringing part. Just wondering, will you be making any more of these elemental temples? If so, I'm looking forward to them.2010-01-28 19:32:00

Hi,
Just played through your level and I have to say it's very well crafted. The different elements went well together and I really felt like I was in a flaming temple. I really liked the underwater section and the bell mechanic was very clever. Overall, five stars and a Heart.
for F4F if you could play my level 'The Crate Escape' that'd be great thanks.

Kin of like i sayed in your Water Temple Thread...really nice Level, really nice visuals...the thing i?m missing again is some alternation. I felt like most parts of the Level were spotting some switches, activate them and got that way...You really could use some moving enemies or some more tricky platforming passages or stuff like that...The Things with the bells i liked...but the were also kind of useless. They were allways in front of the Gap you can cross with them...so u simply could put a switch ther ...or well nothing. Maybe after the first bells it should be a little bit more difficult to ger them ringing...
Again something i did?nt like that much, was the water part...no big fan of those red lights and it's really a bit dark there...
and again a puzzle, where you got to spot something and activate that...no big challenge...

but again ...all in all a really good level with some room for improvements...

4/5 hearted...

After receiving many comments regarding the water in this level...I have finally decided to remove it. Hopefully this will satisfy those who felt that the water section was out of place...(in my own defense...I published this level right when the Pirates Pack was released and couldn't resist adding a water section...) Hope you enjoy the changes.2010-04-27 22:11:00

I played this a few days ago with all of your other elemental levels, it was my favorite of your three elemental levels. The platforming was nice and fun, with a little bit of challenge. The part with ringing the bells was awesome. I love fire platforming, because youget a second chance whenever you touch it, I liked the visuals too, they were consistent throughout the level. Overall, this was a really cool, yet fun level.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star: and hearted it.

I agree with you Luos, this level should already be in the cool level pages of this community !
In the past I played many times to your levels as I was looking for inspiration (my level is based on elements too) and if you made some updates I'm going to run to see
