Deep danger - survival challengenapero7
http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt197/napero7/APhoto_10.jpg?t=1263229362Another survival challenge by me, hooray.

So, you are diving deep down in the sea and try to collect bubbles.
Sounds easy, but you should also know that you are surrounded by lethal gas so don't try to escape.
To make things worse, there will also be underwater missiles that you have to dodge and the longer you survive the harder it gets.

I think it's in the same style as the "diving for treasure" in the potc-pack but also has its own feel to it.
For example, you don't have to collect air because you have the scuba gear.

I promise it looks much better in the game, you can't see the light effects here.

Don't worry, those missiles aren't too fast, you will have time to dodge them.

I also added a LBPC logo there.

I'm new to the F4F so forgive me if my reviews maybe aren't that good.
Just post a link to your F4F level if it isn't in the sig.

I will do at least 5, and after that I'll see if I can be bothered to do more

Survival Challenge? I'm on it!

Pros:

The visuals are really nice!
The concept is nice and works out quite well
Nice rocket and score bubble distributing mechanism
"How to Play" textbubble
The level enables a 3-second-start (compared to some other survivals where you need to walk through half of the level in order to start it). Good for a quick play - that's how a survival should be!

Ideas:

Camera zoom. Really, put in a fix (0% Player Tracking) camera which gives an overview over the complete battlefield. It would be much better like this.

Gas frame. The gas at the top and bottom works out well and is necessary, but I think you could leave the gas at the right and left side away. It doesn't really fit in graphically. Maybe add a spiky surface instead? Or even just plain walls, and let the rockets do the job?

How about different rocket types? You could add more types as the level progresses. Ideas:

faster rocket
bigger rocket
player-tracking rocket
rocket that moves slowly, but speeds up whenever there is a player underneath it

I gave it 4/5 and a heart. There is room for improvement, but if you keep tuning that level, it's gonna be a real nice challenge to play whenever friends come over for a littlebigparty.

I haven't checked F4F for my levels, but if you want to return the favor (and play another water-based survival challenge), you could give my level Tomb Turmoil (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=20900) a go and let me know what you think of it.

Thank you

There is gas on the side because if there wouldn't be gas the rockets would crash into the wall or you would get a safe spot, and I don't really like either idea although I agree it feels that it's too close.

I think I'll add that camera in there and see if that makes it any better

Thought so... well, I mean it's not too big of a bad thing, and if you can't come up with another efficient way of eliminating safe spots without letting the rockets go crazy, I'd also recommend the use of gas.

May I ask you how your rockets are driven? I guess they're just working with the on-board rocket engine? You could connect them to a piece of dark matter using a stiff piston with an inverted grab-switch on the DM to let them drop at a constant speed and in only one direction. I managed to change the direction of some rockets, letting them explode in the walls.

Changing the direction is part of the fun, they aren't supposed to go just in a straight line for the sake of realism
The rockets are driven by themselves, I had to change the boost on them for the best result and I think it worked great.

I added that camera, I had to make it follow the player a little bit because the area is kinda big, but you can now get a much better overview of what's happening.

I also removed some of the gas, it's still there but it isn't very thick which means that you can go closer to the walls and get the bubbles on the sides without worrying about dieing.

I think that is as good as it gets as I don't want to change the mechanism anymore because that would be kinda unfair to the players that were there early

Ok

How about a second version of the level with different rocket types? If you don't want to make one or lack the technical knowledge for clean and stable projectile pathing, I'd be glad to either lend you a hand or design a prototype myself.

Edit: 2'774! Now beat that score

On a side note, I really do think it needs another difficulty ramp-up. I could've managed to go on like this forever, it's just that my eyes got tired. How about letting the two walls move closer together from time to time? For example, let the end position be so that 1/2 of the playing area gets covered up, and let them start moving after 2 minutes have passed, with a total movement duration of, let's say, 5 minutes. That way, you'll get another increase in difficulty after that the emitter has reached its max speed.

Oh, and may I recommend spawning more point bubbles? On one hand, this would make up for the increased difficulty (thus not ruining the leaderboard), and it would also enable better comboing, which is always a nice thing I think.

I played this, (and read all of the stuff you two have been discussing) and I agree with most of the stuff Treas said, especially because after a while it seems to get boring, even though I do like survival mini-games. Anyway, especially if you could give different types of missiles, like he suggested, there would be much more replay value.

Good level anyway though!

I worked on it a bit and republished it.
There are now more bubbles which means that you can get combos easier which is fun.
But that's not everything, the gas will rise quite a bit after a while which makes it really hard, but still not impossible.

Maybe I should add one more danger that comes into play after a couple of minutes for the hardcore players

I just republished it again, this time I call it v1.5 because the improvement are kinda huge.

I think you'll love this one

Here are some nice pictures of the logic, some of you may recognize those randomizers

I used two randomizers for bubbles and 1 for the missiles.

Other stuff that you see is the stuff activating other stuff

Hi there - finally got the chance to play this - apologies for the delay.

I enjoyed the increasing difficulty, the challenge of getting bubble combos, and I thought the change in camera angle was a nice touch.

The level looks good, though I agree that different missiles or danger objects would add some variety, and it is quite similar to the Diving for Treasure mini game, but for what it was I thought you did a great job. Well done.

Thank you

It actually does feature another missile type, you just need to survive quite long time for that to activate.
Maybe I should have made the delay for that a little shorter, kinda late now...

Thank you, nice to see you like it

It may be easy to play but it certainly isn't simple "behind the scenes" (As you can see from the pics previously posted)

Hetkinen hetkinen! M?h?n pelasin t?n maan ikuisuuksia sitten!
Now to english:
Good:
+Has good lighting. Just enough but not too much to blow the atmosphere.
+Simple and easy to learn
+Hardens at the end
+Not shark, bomb or otherwise noobish survival
Bad:
-Not very hard, not even at the end.
Critic: :star::star::star::star::star: I write this in finnish: Hieno maa ja totaalisesti p?ihitt?? nykyiset hai/bomb survivalit. Thank you Or should that be kiitos

I'll write this in english for everyone to understand. If you don't find it hard even at the red part, you must be really good at this level, because I always die there.
I'll play your level, it may take some time until I get some time on the PS3 again but I'll do it

I played this again, since I hearted it earlier, and I have to say that it's as fun as ever. It has really good replay value, and I like how you increased the amount of score bubbles, as they serve as a good distraction because they are possible to get combos from. Overall this is a really fun survival challenge, I like everything about it.

If you want it to get some more plays, check out the level "Republishing 101"

F4F- Please play my level "EPIC Zombie Apocalypse" (I didn't request an F4F the first time I played it)
https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=31064-EPIC-Zombie-Apocalypse&p=546957#post546957

Lastly, @FreeAim, please don't hate on bomb survivals, as they can be very fun if they are made well. (Trust me, I'm an expert)

Good survival challenge, not really a terribly original idea but you did a good job of making look great with good visuals. Still fun of course for a survival challenge, so 4/5!2010-07-29 16:23:00
