The Puzzle Tower (looking for an online buddy)

Archive: 9 posts

I have a concept and a level I'd like to make amongst other ideas I have. I would be looking for someone who'd enjoy AT LEAST to design puzzles.
I or "we" would be actually making the level but I could take care of the creation mode side of things at worse.

So, the level is a tower (duh!) with a elevator and the leaderboard on very top. The player is free to stop at the floor he wants. He can skip it too and directly reach the scoreboard. It's totally up to him/her.
Now each floor is a puzzle, like one screen wide. It's always 3 blocs of different color you need to place on their pads. (It's not holes, it's just aligning the block (tick layer) with its pad (thin layer) and then the block lights up. When all the block lit up, I call the MGS giggle indicating that you won and a "level complete!" pops on-screen.
Each floor cleared will give you points, awarded on top of the tower right before the leaderboard.

Now my problem is that I have many gameplay/puzzle elements I'd like to create but right now I am not much inspired to create puzzle with them. I thought this might make a interesting joint project so that's why I am posting here. I will not do this with a complete stranger though. Expect me to chose some creator I know a little because if we do this I need to trust that we will both make it through.

Here's some examples of situations and gameplay I wanted to create:

-using one block to reach the other one (basic)
-doors with the same color as a bloc. opens only when the corresponding block is in proximity.
-platform for sackboy to walk on for a certain time only before it crumbles.
-involving the jetpack
-involving the paintinator
-weight switch where you need one or two block in order to open something
-involving conveyor belts
-switch activating timed doors (the door is open for a certain time)
-platform that rise up, down or move in a given direction because a block of the same color is on it.

I want to involve the 3 blocks as much as possible and make the puzzle very environnemental. No charade or intellectual puzzles, mostly visual / figurative stuff.

Anyhow, tell me if you'd like to create puzzle with me. I can create any element with need and take care of the creation part entirely (at worse) although I would enjoy an online create experience more.

Don't really have time to join you on this one, but I like this concept a lot... I used to have a lot of puzzles in my levels. One thing though... Why such a desire to keep the 3 blocks? Wouldn't you be opening up a ton of other options if every puzzle didn't have to end w/ the blocks?2010-01-11 04:56:00

Why always the 3 blocks? Well, it's just so the puzzles and the level inevitably "fits together" in an homogenous experience.
Having all sorts and styles of puzzles would make the thing less interesting to my eyes.

you could (if its a X2 level) you could 1 sackboy gets gun 1 gets the jet pack then the 1 with the jet pack grabs the 1 with the gun and have puzzles like that......................2010-01-11 18:34:00

I'm more on the logic side and would be glad to help you in any way I can - I'm from Italy and you are from Canada, but I have a lot of free time, so there shouldn't be any problem at all (I was thinking about replayable rooms with increased difficulty every time you play them)2010-01-11 21:06:00

This is a nice idea but the tower design and the idea that the player is free to play any puzzle in any order or to actually skip them is to remove the need of resetting anything. Saves alot of time and production time.

That's possible. I'll see where this whole thing leads me. My main problems is the inspiration for puzzles. Since I lack some, I thought this idea could make a nice online create, team thing.
Anyhow, i'll keep you posted.
