LittleBugPlanet (2 Player Co Op) [from Online Create beta]Catiers, xkappax, CuzFeeshe, Morgana25 and featuring special guest, Vmethos
Join xkappax, Catiers, CuzFeeshe and Morgana25 as they fight to complete their 2x challenge before the contest deadline is up! Can they make it in time before the bugs attack and wipe out their level!?
all
This level was made for the third Online Create beta contest. The challenge was called "The Final Countdown", which was pretty ironic, considering there were at least 4 months of beta testing ahead of us and 2 or 3 more beta challenges that followed. This challenge was a 2x challenge, and we could do either a survival challenge or a full level. We chose a full level. We filled both the thermometer and all the space you had to work with, too! :O

A little back story to this level: The final stage of the online create beta had a few really nasty bugs. This level is all about two players working together to eliminate the various bugs. There are a few inside jokes from the Online Create beta, but I don't think it will take away from the enjoyment of the level.

Disclaimer: I am going to publish this level "as is" ... I'm sure there are probably areas that can/will break, but since this was worked on by a bunch of people, I don't want to change anything without their express permission.

Disclaimer 2: The part with the van was made for another contest, the Piggy In The Middle contest, by jackofcourse, NinjaMicWz, GruntosUK and me.

Disclaimer 3: The 2x section beyond the "crystal room" was made by Vmethos.

Anyway, here are a few pictures:

I thought I had some more, but I guess I don't. Sorry!
Here is the two part video of the level, too:

by the way, level was originally published under Catiers, as seen in the video, but I have since published it under my psn, xkappax.

Have fun with this level, and remember, this is intended for two players. ^_^ Hope you guys have as much fun playing it as we did making it.

Hurray! It Lives!

This was one of the best beta experiences I had. Working with all of you was such a pleasure and privilege. Hope the community likes it as much as we did.

Thanks for resurrecting it xkappax

Yeah, I hope people check this out - I personally think this is one of the best 2X experiences out there. There is an incredible amount of variety, the art direction and characters are fantastic. I'm going to see if I can get my boy to play it with me today. Great stuff!2010-01-11 19:02:00

I had great fun making this level with you guys. I hope people play it, too. I want everyone who reads this thread to remember that we only had a week to work on this challenge, and we came in late, so we essentially lost 2 days. All that taken into consideration, this level makes me happy. ^__^

Thanks Morgana and Ccubbage for doing this with Larry, Patrick and I, because we had a great time!

Well I took a group of four through the other day and they really liked it. Two of them were your typical teenage girls (all giggly and a bit confused as to where to go next) but we made it. They kept laughing and oohing and aahing over the visuals so it's got that going for it 2010-01-13 17:09:00

Hi guys, we just finished playing your level and thoght we's share our feedback.
Seriously you didn't actually make this in 5 days did you? Did you actually sleep at all that week? Visuals wise I guess you could kind of tell that you sped through the creation process, not that it didn't look good because it was nice and all but it possibly lacked your usual attention to detail. Having said that, gameplay wise you really packed a lot in, and the variety in co-op puzzles was definitely it's strength. We particularly liked the one where one player creates platforms for the other, and the jetpack/paintinator task. One minor problem we had here though was that when you pick the jetpack and paintinator up, its kind of hard to actually get out the door without dragging the person with the paintinator through the jetpack emitter thing, which then forces them to put their paintinator down.
We also loved all the different creatures you made, which looked great and were fun to beat.
It sounds like you guys had loads of fun making it, and there was certainly a lot of fun to be had playing it too. I guess we didn't get all your in jokes, but you probably knew that already.
If any of you get a chance, we'd love to hear what you think of 'In pursuit of the meddling magpie' by Adi and Luos, which is their entry into the coop create competition. It's published by TheAdipose
Anyway, thanks for the 2x fun! Adi and Clarie

Yeah, five days. We weren't going to do it. The four of us hadn't entered any of the other contests, (I REALLY hate to compete in creative endeavors). We were just messing around with goofy levels in the beta, but then we found out that media molecule would give prizes to whichever ONES they liked, plural. Since there wasn't one clear winner, I figured we should give it a shot and that it might be fun. And it was! Those guys were great to work with! I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

And no, I, at least, didn't get very much sleep at all that week.

Yeah, we were kinda flying through it. I would have loved to go back and make things look prettier, but now the thermometer is so full that not a single ANYTHING can be added. Frankly, though, I'm surprised at how much we actually packed into that level. We thought it was a mistake. The whole work area is completely filled.

The gameplay was mostly done by Ccubbage, Catiers and Vmethos (our guest creator) ... Morgana and I did most of the visuals. Keep an eye out for her crane. It's pretty awesome. ^__^ The puzzle with where the one player makes platforms for the other was designed by Catiers, and the jetpack paintinator thing was done by Ccubbage and myself, but mostly Ccubbage.

One minor problem we had here though was that when you pick the jetpack and paintinator up, its kind of hard to actually get out the door without dragging the person with the paintinator through the jetpack emitter thing, which then forces them to put their paintinator down.

This was a daunting task... believe me, it's much better than it used to be. We tried like everything and that was the best solution we were able to come up with in the time we had. And like I said, now the thermo is COMPLETELY full, so it's gotta be the way it is.

I'll certainly give it a try when I can, but I might have to do it under my secret screen name. Even with the "block join requests" thing, it's getting harder and harder for me to be on my xkappax screen name.

Anyway, thank you very much for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed the level!

One little thing I ran into with my son that could probably be fixed really easily - the part in the space ship where you need to drag the box onto the platform? He was holding the switch that raises the wall while I dragged the box through, and he let go of the switch while the box was half through...crushing the box.

Maybe either lower the strength on the piston that is pulling up the wall, or change the material of the wall to a lighter material? I would suggest emitting the box, but I know we're really tight on thermo.

Oh, and congrats to us on the spotlight!

Ccubbage: I have zero thermo left. Like... zero. There are a few things I wanted to fix about the level, but I wouldn't even know what to delete to give me space. It seems like I've already deleted everything extraneous already. I'll look at it next time I get a chance to go online. this week is looking like it's going to be insane for me, though.

And yeah, go us. I noticed that aside from one other person, we're the only ones who posted in this thread. LOL..
