Revolving Room- wanna make it?
Archive: 5 posts
i had an idea for a challenge a talented user might wanna attempt, because i havent seen it before, but i would certainly not be able to do it myself. ive seen railroad levels, with repeating tracks to create the illusion of a neverending train ride, which is awesome. but i was thinking about puzzle games and "you're locked in a room with 'no way out'" games and i thought: what if someone could make a room that loops using emitters? that might not be too much of a challenge to some people, but it would be unique. the real challenge that might not even be possible would be consistency, for instance if i shot an enemy in one section and he had 9/10 health, in the next loop he would still have 9/10 health, or at least, 9/9. ..i dont think thats possible however.. but then i just thought it would be a lot easier if the room didnt loop and it was just a locked room... oh well, it's certainly a thought. | 2010-01-10 15:48:00 Author: aquamygdala Posts: 11 |
That sounds complicated...maybe you could have a paintinator switch on the enemy that triggers a slightly different room emitter with a weakened enemy? Man this is quite a thought. | 2010-01-10 17:57:00 Author: Ragfell Posts: 729 |
Seems to me that concept would work much better as a kind of puzzle level, rather than a 'shooter'. Why complicate it with ugly paintinators? | 2010-01-14 16:46:00 Author: TheSeraphor Posts: 73 |
I'm actually working on a level which takes place 100% in one room the size of the zoomed out camera. I really should pull my finger out and finish it... I have other projects to move onto. | 2010-01-14 16:51:00 Author: adlingtont Posts: 321 |
If I understand the concept directly, it's a lot easier to do with checkpoint teleportation. Walk left off-screen, and the opposite checkpoint on the right side is activated, you're killed by gas and appear on the right. Any enemies would need to be destroyed and emitted on the other side, or perhaps demitted. I considered doing something like this once, but I'm not sure the hassle is worth it. | 2010-01-15 14:09:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
