Help with hanging turrets from the ceiling

Archive: 6 posts

Hey, guys!

I actually just joined this forum because it seems like the best place I can get help. I'm building my first level and I just got the most recent update for LBP. In my level I had a sort of downward staircase where you had to use a paintgun to kill several tracking turrets I built that were hanging from the ceiling. Before I got the update, I was hanging them from the ceiling by way of 0" length, invisible rods. When you shot them 5 times, they would die and disappear. However, once I got the update, they no longer die. I had a boss turret hanging from the side of the room as well in the room at the bottom of the stairwell that won't die either. I managed to get him to die, but in order to do that, I had to disconnect him from the primary level wall and attach him to some flaming sponge below him that was just resting on the floor, not attached to anything. I can now defeat the boss, but the flaming sponge disappears as well. I'm okay with doing that, but I can't figure how to suspend the other turrets from the ceiling without adding a whole bunch of junk that would be holding them up from the floor. Any suggestions as how to do that or alternative ways I can just suspend than from the ceiling would be great. On a side note, I've tried bolting them to something on the farthest back plane as well as having tried other connectors (string, pistons, etc.). Thanks for the help everybody!

I've set the paint switches all to one shot, so that should be okay. What was weird when I had the boss attached to the wall was that the paint switch would reset for some reason. I had it attached to prize emitters and when the paint switch was all the way down, they would emit, but the boss would still be there. I had all of the paint switches set to protected creature brains and when the switch gets 5 hits, the brain pops, but the turret is still there. I don't know if this make a difference, but they're made of rubber as well.2010-01-09 19:22:00

When you attatch objects to something else, like a wall for example, it makes it part of the same object. In other words, in order to destroy the whole object, you must destroy all brains attatched to it. Dark matter is also a bit wonky on the whole destruction thing, and will not break, same goes for objects directly glued to it.

Your creatures should be fixed if you just remove them from the ceiling. place a piece of material above the ceiling, and hook the creature up to it via a connector, it should hang naturally and when defeated it will die like you want it to

You were doing the same thing with that little piece of fire really.

Alright, awesome. I will definitely try that out once I get a chance and let you know how it goes. That definitely gives me a better idea as to how to fix it. Thanks!2010-01-10 01:40:00

Thanks for the help! That ended up working. It took a while to do and took a little adjustment, but it works. Thanks again!2010-01-11 00:29:00
