Any tips on making "nature" levels?
Archive: 14 posts
I have been experimenting with the corner edit tool (YAY ME!), but I have had trouble as a rectangle only has four corners, I cannot make my levels bumpy but still looking naturally smooth? Also, I'd just like some tips for making "jungle-like" themes, so I can include it in future levels. Many Thanks, LittleBigLearner | 2010-01-09 15:08:00 Author: LittleBigLearner Posts: 81 |
In case you didn't know, you can add more corners by selecting any point on the sides of your rectangle where there isn't a corner already. This allows you to make rounded hills and the like. | 2010-01-09 15:53:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |

Just bumping this thread. Any more tips anyone? | 2010-01-10 15:53:00 Author: LittleBigLearner Posts: 81 |
Hey LittleBigLearner, When you said jungle theme, I thought about two things: the Spring room in Lleonard's Harp of Seasons and the beginning and end of The Garden of Golden Apples. What I liked about the Spring room was that it felt very tight and claustrophobic in terms of layout, and the abundant use of plant and bird stickers made the room feel very crowded and full. I think this successfully captures a lush jungle feel. In The Garden of Golden Apples, I thought the drooping vines were a nice touch and the addition of ruins made the jungle look more authentic. Anyways, go check those levels out, and I'm looking forward to playing this level! Happy creatin', jeffcu28 | 2010-01-10 17:46:00 Author: jeffcu28 Posts: 648 |
Thanks for your input jeffcu, I will re-play both those levels, and get on with creating , it should be out in a couple of weeks. I hope I don't dissapoint you with it | 2010-01-10 17:51:00 Author: LittleBigLearner Posts: 81 |

While it may not help you specifically in terms of what you're trying to accomplish here. I think my creating guide could be of general use to you Hope you read it useful if you do get around to reading it! It's quite lengthy and extensive so a section a day or something may be a good idea! https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=20588 | 2010-01-10 18:07:00 Author: jackofcourse Posts: 1494 |
if you have the PSeye and a laptop you can look up images of vegetation and take pictures and use the corner edit tool on them. Or if no laptop you can collect leaves and stuff and bring them in to take pics. also the Jon Burgerman Original Sticker Kit has some great plant images. | 2010-01-10 18:34:00 Author: IStwisted Posts: 428 |

Jack, your guide was the first place I went to for tips, and then I read taffeys anti-guide. So I have already taken your advice. Thanks matey And jeffcu, I have re-played those levels and have noted what I like about them, and I can't wait either | 2010-01-11 16:56:00 Author: LittleBigLearner Posts: 81 |
Some general advices: -Make a list of what a jungle means to you (elements, objects, plants, flowers, animals, whatever) -Have this list in mind when designing your level on paper -Try blending platforming and environments: like, don't make platforms and plants, the plants are the platforms! -Also, search for images on Google to get inspiration. It always works for me. -Use stickers and materials in a creative way, there are plenty of them for a nature/jungle level but don't stick to the first ones you find, experiment. | 2010-01-18 23:33:00 Author: Lleonard Pler Posts: 277 |
