Well... I republish alot. i basically. put a piece of dark matter in a place the player cant see, this counts as an edit so then i republish the level. you do need a specific amount of plays to reach pg 7 or somthing like that to get a level popular.
around 500-600 plays.
pg 6. 600-800 plays.
pg 5 800-900 plays.
pg 4 900-1000 plays.
pg 3 1000-1500 plays.
pg 2 1500-2400 plays.
pg 1 4500-20,000 plays

Ive done these results by examining my own levels progressing through the cool and other levels. but dont worry. the 20,000 plays bit for pg 1 only ever happend in winter when it was extremely hard to progress through the pages. unless you have a heart ratio of..... 5 - 40,000 plays! hearts also count... but ive not measured them yet.

when i identify whats wrong with my PS3 then ill notify you when i get the results for hearts.

Ratings matter as well. You can comfortably sit on the same pages as a level with double or triple the plays you have if you have a higher rating and good number of hearts.

As you allude to, the numbers vary on how other levels are doing at the same time as you as well, so it's going to be very hard to nail down anything accurate here.

Haha - That's the one I was looking for. Good job Ranger! (BTW - That thread should be a sticky or a tutorial).

You don't even need to place new dark matter. You can enter and exit the level but save each time. It'll be a new version of your level each time and you can republish it.2010-01-09 17:29:00

Doesn't that only work though if you leave the level unpaused?

I generally use the dark matter trick, I just place it somewhere hidden, and I may just move it a little to republish the level.

Yep it does. Honestly though, if your level is ready to be published it should be perfectly stable unpaused.

However, if it is not then just do the dark matter trick once and use save as to create a copy. Alternating between the two copies should maximise your ability to **** off your PSN friends with repeated publishing messages

You don't need to add/remove/change stuff. Being on pause or not doesn't matter either.
You only need to enter the level, press pause and use "save level" or whatever that option is called.

Why don't you ask lemons_and_gravy for advice?

He's one of the community's most successful creators, trained by the legendary russelsmuscles.

It also helps to cheat by making a second account and restart the level after moving two inches like 100 times. lol.2010-01-09 20:30:00

This will give you play but will mess your heart/play ratio and your rating.
All of this count when you're climbing the cool level pages.

The ratio counts too? I don't think that could be proven unless with lots of testing that the [ratio] counts. What about russelsmuscles level with a thousand hearts and three hundred thousand plays? As long as it's a lot of cheat plays I think it would cancel the ratio out.

BTW ranger, shouldn't your cool levels guide be in the tutorials? That's bugged me for so long. lol. (And offtrack, but very good tutorial by the way).

I dunno. It's sticked in the help section at least.

As for the cool pages testing, it's been a year me, Ccubbage, Jeayden, Wex, etc are studying it. This thread is born because of a great amount of collective knowledge and testing.

By the way, plays count more than anything else in the algorythm. But a level with alot of hearts and rated 4 or 5 star can stick in the first page having just a couple of thousand plays, if not less.
