The Epic Level: Anti-H4H Scorpians

Archive: 17 posts

As a tribute to Taffey's hilarious anti-guide (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=20738) to making levels, I decided to play the fool who misunderstood the sarcasm and actually created a level that followed all (well mostly all) of the guidelines.

I think I followed most of them except for the "unnamed level" because I had to name it for the sake of convenience of searching, and also to follow number 11. Because of my limited time, I also couldn't make a confusing puzzle or a complicated platforming section without checkpoints. I couldn't figure how to work that in...I let the level be copyable in case anybody would like to give that a go.

I also had the fun opportunity to parody some of my favorite levels and randomly place community objects. So thank you everyone on LBPC for making great PSP levels.

Hope you enjoy, but don't take the level too seriously!

I was excited to try this level out because I have been following the "How not to make a level" thread since Taffey created it. The level did a great job implementing the humor of the thread. Awesome job Jeff

BTW, my only issue with the level was that I had no idea how to rate it once I was done with it. It absolutely deserves 1 star, and that was sort of the goal (wasn't it???), but at the same time, I hate giving it one star because I understand the humor behind it. I ended up giving it one since I thought it kind of defeated the purpose to give it higher, but I'd be glad to raise it one if you weren't aiming for a low score.

Hey Amazingflyingpoo,

What, one measly star? But I did everything Taffey told me to do . Perhaps you don't know who he is? He made three levels that are all on highest rated, so he knows the exact recipe of making a good level.

Just kidding.

I definitely was not aiming for a high star rating...just a high laugh rating. I only spent about 5 hours on this, which was nothing compared to the 3 weeks I spent on my other level. I made this level on a whim, intoxicated with boredom, and also as a gag gift for someone's birthday *hint* *hint*

Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed the humor and for putting so much thought into rating it. Please don't feel guilty--you're right...a high rating definitely defeats the purpose. You know what would be interesting? If this had over a hundred plays and only had one star! I laugh at the thought.

Hey Arrestor,

Thanks! I really did not know how others would receive this level. If you ever met me in person, you would know that my failed attempts at humor is much more funnier than when I actually try to be funny. So thanks again for enjoying, and I'm looking forward to your next level.

Funnily yours,

Thats nearly the same in my case

Actually my next level will come very soon!

Oh my GOSH!!!! Teh most epac level evar!!1!

Seriously though, this is hands down the most hilarious thing I've played on LBP yet. Of course, it's comprised entirely of inside jokes... but that's my favorite kind! I really, honestly, was laughing out loud the whole time I played this level. I laughed especially hard when I had to restart because of the one-way grab winch. SO AWESOME!!!! LOL

I had trouble getting online yesterday otherwise I would have commented sooner on this masterpiece. Really, this is great stuff. It's almost funnier because you know there's a lot of people who will play it and not really understand exactly why it's so awful. Comedic genius is at work here folks. I loved all the cameo appearances from other LBPC community levels, especially the *ahem* unnecessary surprise death-by-spike-trap test. I wish I had thought of that myself!

I had trouble with the rating, so I give it 1 star, NO heart, and I removed your creator heart! (In reality, I gave it 5 stars, a heart, and you keep your creator heart, but I wanted to put up a good show. )

This was the best birthday present I got this year, and I mean that. It really was. Not that I didn't get good gifts, but I guarantee none of my friends or even my wife spent as much time lovingly crafting something that they'd know I would appreciate so much. jeffcu28, you are the best. Ever. From my own pocket, I have given you 500 experience points. It's just my little way of saying 'thank you' for planting a stupid grin on my face that will last the entire week.

Hey Taffey,

Yay! I made a funny person laugh...that must mean my humor is valid. But then again, you were the one who came up with the thread, and I just translated it into a level. Anyways, you laughing is perhaps the greatest reward for making this.

I loved all the cameo appearances from other LBPC community levels, especially the *ahem* unnecessary surprise death-by-spike-trap test. I wish I had thought of that myself!

I started a little bit more ambitious by planning to parody a lot of the successful and memorable levels posted here on LBPCentral along with the "what NOT to do guide," but because my time was limited due to school work, I decided to cut it short. I might pick it back up in the future...

I'm genuinely delighted to hear this. I had the idea when I first read your thread a while back but I had no motivation to actually do it because I didn't know how people would react to it. But when I found out it was your birthday, I decided to go through with it...just for fun. And this reaction was certainly worth it! And thanks for the gift too...you really shouldn't have, but I am so grateful anyways.

Hope you had a good one,

It was a hilarious parody of common mistakes in LBP, I couldn't stop laughing.

Also, thank you for the tribute to my Skadi level (that hand!).

Hey Lleonard,

I made you laugh too? That must mean I'm legitimately funny! Anyways, you're welcome for the tribute: that level was awesome and deserved to be parodied. Actually, I had something in mind more grand than that hand. Originally, I was planning to recreate the bells from The Frozen Kingdom of Skadi that opened the secret area (Coxy's level) that emitted the story-level scorpions. Hehe. Oh well.

Sad that LBP Water didn't meet your expectations, but excited for your next PSP level,

Woo World's #3 At the #1 Level!!!

I really liked the scorpian part, also the crab, my first run through I tried to kill that crab, like, a gajillion times.

:star::star::star::star::star::star: For You!

This was truly amazing, and now I think my levels will be all the better for it.

Hey, I found a problem with this level...

Yup! There's a whole lotta wrong with this level!

Anyways, I'm happy to hear to you a good time...this is what this level is all about!

I gave it a well deserved... 1 star. It's funny though, so I hearted it all the same.

Hehe, right on! I tried so hard to get that one star . And congratulations for getting the high score...I can't possibly imagine where you got all those points from...

Thanks for the kind words. As you may already know, I filled my level with random community objects and that crab was from Gilgamesh's Aquabyss (www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19232). If you liked it, I'll take credit for it, but if not, you can blame it on Gilgamesh. Kidding. Aquabyss was an awesome level, and you should play it!

On a lookout for all of your levels,

I'm a little late to the party (I blame the 90% drop in PSP playing time!) but I just played this level. I thought it was pretty funny, and I loved the small homages to various other creator's levels.

A perfect tribute to imperfection... if such a thing is possible.

:star::star::star::star::star: and ♥'ed. (Or should that have been -5 star'ed and unhearted? Hmmmm)
