Tried to create a challenging and varied level based on classic gameplay. Even managed a few monsters!

UPDATE - Major graphical improvements and some gameplay tweaks as per excellent advice below - see new photos here...

Spent a few weeks creating whilst learning to use the tools etc. You will have more fun if playing 2up as there are some challenges.

Hope you get a chance to play it - it does have a couple of tricky bits so if you are a beginner player watch out!

Any constructive feedback welcome - will do F4F

Any F4F would be appreciated - its my 1st level so any design flaws highlighted would help me not make the same mistakes on my next level....

thnx

Hello there (and welcome to LBPC!).

Just played your level with my husband, and we had great fun. Lots of variety and challenging platforming, held together by a good story.

There were some tricky bits, but nothing frustrating. The ruined staircase was one of the most elaborate I've ever seen, and the electrified pieces on string were pure evil I tell you, EVIL!

Boss was quite tricky due partly to the limited shots and partly due to the rate at which Kong was throwing firey stuff at us - there didn't seem to be very much time to get out the checkpoint, grab the gun, run/jump towards Kong and start firing before getting killed again. Throughout the level, you have infinite life checkpoints, and at the end you only have a double-life one - maybe change the end one for an inifinite one for slow, old people like me!

Overall, a very good effort. If this is your first level, then I really will look forward to more.

Very well done.

(PS - Don't worry about F4F )

Thanks very much for taking the time to provide such helpful advice. Yes I forgot to put an infinite lives at the final boss battle. The trick is to get into the alcove after the fiery log is thrown by Kong, then jump out and take pot shots... its a bit tricky so I agree that infinite lives and maybe a slower emit setting could improve the feel.

The EVIL electrified string things are TERRORDACTYLS tails as they fly down.

Yes I made them Evil! lol

My next creation is already going - got an opening scene with a chopper swooping down to land on an "installation" - so far got loads of movement, clouds, with an amazing backwards landing...

Thanks again :star:

Hey there...

...just tried ur Level...so here goes m Feedback ^^

Overall i liked your Lev. Cool Ideas, Visuals and Stuff...

Here are some Suggestions i got in Mind to optimize it:

-The Forms of your Blocks and Landscape sometimes look to "random" in my opinion...and sometimes kind of Blocky in the other way...
Sometimes Steps and Stuff like that are really to small (especially in beginning of Boss Section, where thes Bird Saurs are)...makes Jumping an moving sometimes really not easy...

- Sometime u could use 1 or 2 more Checkpoints or make the way to tricky Parts of the Level shorter to the Checkpoints, so You don't have to run all the Way again & again ( More Checkpoints in the Section with the rolling electro Bars, shorter Way to tricky Passage through that Electro thing, after u went down 2,3 Walks in different Layers)

- at Beginnig i fell down in this Pit before the Lava Way...i think there were some Bubbles but i could not really get further anyway...also nothing really killed me there. so i had to kill myself...

- Like MrsSpooky says, Checkpoints in Boss Section >>> infinity

- The Boss Cam needs to be adjusted in my Opinion...when you are in this alcove u can?t see if the Fire Things are still there, if u need to get back to grab Ammo...
Also i would maybe let the Fire Bars dissaper little bit earlier...the emmit Speed is ok, but they are alive to long...

So that?s it...don't see this as critic... just as suggestions...

All in all i liked the Level and most of your ideas...for a first Try really cool

Gave it 4/5 and an Author Heart--- caus I wanna see what u do next...

If u got time i?d like to know wath you think of my actuall F4F Lev. "Odysseey for a Treasure- Chapter 1: Monkey Bay" (See Signature...)

Yeah...i got Monkeys there too ^^

Again great constructive feedback - I did put some hidden stuff in the pit you fell into - think i need to make it an instant kill or a secret way out back to the surface...

Will put a couple of more checkpoints to improve playability - the camera for the boss sounds like another good tweak to do.

Hopefully will update this evening if my wife lets me... I have been hogging the ps3 all week with this new creative obsession!

Thanks again for the feedback and will do a F4F on your level this weekend.

Latest Version Bugs/Extras fixed ( that I can remember) :

- Player has option to collect extra points when dropping into lava pit - now
has escape route through stairs

- Added extra checkpoint after 1st terrordactyl

- Added checkpoint a base of 3d level near electro rocks

- Adjusted camera in boss fight to aid player more effectively

- made it easier to climb on Kong's shoulder for prize bubble collection

@MightyMoeJoe - Played your level and thought it was very creative, fun and well thought out - gave it 4 stars, heart and author heart - like ur stuff. Nice to see monkeys in a level!

Cheers for the offer - I do find it hard enough creating on my own let alone with someone else! However if you need any help (what little i can give) I will do my best.

I would like contacts for playtesting new levels I do so send a friend request on psn - we can play each others levels and offer feedback before publishing. I have created an intro to my new level, so if u want to try it out and test it etc let me know.

I can upload it and send u a key ( dont know how to do that yet! but will find out )

Also if you have trouble with creating a particular thing I can offer my help there too... swap ideas, try stuff out

Let me know what u think of my level anyway

cheers

Catseyez,

Not bad! I like your use of storytelling, something I still haven't quite mastered myself. However, some of the platforming areas are a bit frustrating. For example the area involving the bird with the electrified foot, was for me personally quite challenging. I would suggest using the grid tool to make the platforms larger and easier to get to.

Also, at the area asking for a goldfish to pass, it was a little unclear as to what you needed to do to get the fish needed. I actually just got lucky when I pulled the other fish over.

Again, this was a great level, very entertaining!

I hope you will get the chance to try my level: Elemental: Temple of Fire

Yeah a few people have found them tricky but it was by design like the staircase, I didn't want the player to have too easy a ride.

My perspective was that even though it was tricky the player by then would feel strong enough to want to see what was up there...

Thanks for your valuable feedback - will definitely checkout your level soon.

Hey Catseyez! As promised, I gave your level a shot. I have to say, for your first level this was really good!

Pros:
- The Music .. I loved the music in the beginning parts.. what was it?!?
- The story was fun
- Platforming worked well.. no real problems that I saw
- Secret areas - it looks like I missed one!
- I loved this: that you made it so Kong doesn't die

Cons:
- After I defeated Kong I wasn't quite sure where to go, but I had a good guess and I was right
- Some sounds would constantly activate when I ran past them - I'll PM you for some tips on this
- Kong was to the right... then he was immediately to the left... sleeping... I'm not sure that made sense

Overall:
4 :star:'s and a heart (which is great for a first level! looking forward to more)

Thanks for your review - will return the favour this week for sure and give my feedback

The music at the begining was a Metal Gear Solid one from the add on pack

I have made loads of changes since releasing it so it pretty much looks totally different than when I 1st produced it. Glad u had fun - and I like the ending too!

I have added some decent screenshots to my original post of the new version.

Thanks again!
