"How to make good scenery" Tutorial videos - The Boat!

Archive: 18 posts

Greetings fellow Gadders!

This is the second video tutorial in our scenery series. This time we are sharing ideas on a man-made structure - a boat!

We discuss different methods of creating shapes, lighting, making objects float - and much more. We hope you find them useful and we always value feedback.

Video tutorial PART ONE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Th7PE5NDAo)
Video tutorial PART TWO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktY0WquRX_0)

Please check out Luos' sack, the legendary series, and look forward to "In pursuit of the meddling magpie" - a joint creation!

This tutorial i very nice. Although, i would recommend using another simple floating technique, which doesn't stop the boat from moving.2010-01-04 09:32:00

Wow. These tutorials are awesome! And your talking isn't boring at all like some other tutorials you see out there! I'd really like some help on how to make a decent forest. Not a scary one just a regualr one. Mine always look pretty bland.. :/2010-01-05 09:02:00

I have to say these are the best scenary making videos out there they cover nearly everything and i even used your cave method in a lvl i am working on. These series actually get to the point of making stuff other than just talking about it and only getting bits of it done.

Nearly the whole of my level i am working uses your technic of dofererent heights in caves and it looks really good with the hexagon shape. I just wanted to say thank you so much for these videos and can't wait for more in the hopefully great future for you and your videos.

Right i'm of to watch you making boats.

I don't get whats weird about me is that i love watching people making things or playing games it really inspires me thats why i like your videos so much i can watch what you are actually doing, anyway your probobly bored of reading this post so i will stop now.

Thank you so much i will send you a ps3 freind invite.

PS. i really wanna pllay your level you mention in the cave tutorial the maple tree or something like that but it was locked could you send me key please cause it looks really good and i can't wait to play it.

I'll either meet you online or send you a key to a non-copyable version. Add me on psn if you are interested in giving us detailed feedback on it, and thanks for the offer. Adi2010-01-07 20:32:00

You guys...these are excellent. As for what's next...you guys should tackle gravity. XD Or water. Knowing how water works would make it easier...2010-01-18 19:10:00

the videos where the best online! good work,
but i found out a nother way to make even metel float, somewhat.
when you have the shape done, if it is simple, copy it, shrink it then when it is in the center press tryangle then x, then you can change the middle into dissolve.
in your boat, just have the small grid on and go around the sides. delete the inside of the shape and fill in the emty space
i have not tryed it with metel but with most of them. it works good

Your tutorials are awesome!
How about a creature one. It is probably the thing I find hardest to do. (and I am going to need at least some in my Spyro Levels)

Ideas:
Use as few corners as possible.
Legs or wheels which is better for what motion.
Where to put brain/brains
Where to put danger.

Watched the boat tutorial just now, Luos! you have quite the accent! Of course you'd say the same about me, lol! Loved watching, I could use some of your techniques, but I can't stand the grid, lol. I only use it occasionally, when absolutely necessary. Also enjoy playing with you online when we do, sorry my chatting is so slow, you got a keypad or something? It's hard to keep up, lol!2010-02-08 18:03:00
