Gareth, Actually this is a great start. Much better than I could do. There is one place that I fell through to the ground, and that was just after the waterfall and before the ball to grab onto. This is great! You're right, not much gameplay but you have a very solid foundation. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll have a top notch level in no time. Based on what I see, I'd say you create approximately the same way I create. I'll end up with an area that I'm happy with, but without any challenge or activity. I add various small and/or large things to do here and there until I get the pacing how I want it, and it seems like that will work for you as well. I can never picture all the details at once, but I usually have a decent idea for the basic layout. I love your waterfall. When I first saw it, my first thought was to tell you to set the piston to flipper so it would appear to be going only one direction. However, the longer I looked at it the better it got, and I decided that you got it perfect in a cartoony LBP kind of way. So, don't change anything there. Your use of natural materials and primary colors is interesting. I'd have to see where you take the rest of the level to decide if I like it or not, but it's not something I've seen done before. It's definitely artsy is very cleanly put together. There's really only a few small things I noticed that might need fixing. The first gripe I have is a very, very minor one. The sound object associated with the large door that opens isn't timed well - you don't hear the stone grinding until the door is almost all the way open. Yes, it's picky but that's just me. The second thing I noticed is in the section where you hang on to the grab wheel. I felt that the piston rose up from below a little too slowly. I wasn't sure what I had accomplished, so I went looking around instead. Of course I fell into the pit in the process, which is where my last point comes in. I bounced off of the fire material on the bottom, which showed me the underbelly of your level's workings. Put a layer of gas towards the top of this area, just out of view. This will kill the player instantly and before they hit the bottom. I gave you 4 stars and a heart, which will easily be 5 stars in a longer level with more gameplay. It's definitely artsy is very cleanly put together. Hey gareth, Taffey took the words right out of my mouth! That was by far my favorite section, and I think you should make your entire level based on that. Right now though, that section conflicts thematically with the beginning and end of the level where you seem to create a lush, outdoorsy feel. The materials used in the two themes seem too diverse, and the minimalist contrast between the pop-art-ish colors and stone materials and stickers were a real treat. If you elaborate this section more, I think you'll have one original and visually appetizing level. I love the whimsical shape of the trees and fences at the beginning, and like Taffey, I also liked the cartooniness of the waterfall. That said, I think these would look much better if you can incorporate them into the artsy theme rather than the natural, outdoorsy look. Other than that, I would definitely add more gameplay elements as I felt I was running most of the time. Like your other level, this too is promising, and I hope you will continue to improve it. Judging from your two levels, you seem to like mixing vibrant colors with organic materials. You should stick with that: it's your own distinct style, and I personally love it. Hi Gareth! I just played your level and agree with the others here. The visuals start out great.
