Motion control... but how?

Archive: 56 posts

I've been hearing rumours that there will be another LBP dlc pack to go along with the playstation motion controller (wand).
I just can't see it happening though,
If anyone knows what the dlc would use with motion control it'd be great to hear thanks other than that, does anyone have any ideas how it could possibly used anyway?

You play with a DS3 someone else interacts with some stuff using the wand.2010-01-03 16:18:00

You'll for example be able to create some real precise minigolf games. Just bolt the golfclub to the back layer and use the pink material as the front of the club and swing away.2010-01-03 16:25:00

Ohhh, nice nice. So it could bring a whole new dimension to sports then.

I cn't really see people using the controller as a form of multiplayer, since LBP already has real multiplayer, but there can be some very good single player uses for this. Seeing as how the motion controller can keep move objects around and rotate them, this would give you all the control of a duel analog stick over objects. This could improve control over side-scrolling shooter levels.2010-01-05 02:57:00

I have a sister that LOVES to play this game with me, along with friends. I think it would be a great addition.

I don't think it will be a big game changer. They won't change the control interface all of a sudden. And what would be the fun to simply control the same game but with a different controller?

Also, the multiplayer thing where another player controls stuff on-screen is not probable. I mean, they can't divide the community with people having the wand and others not having it therefore fragmenting the levels they can play or not.

Remember that LBP, SINCE THE BEGINNING is about adding things and DLC SEEMLESSLY. Everybody can use water, the gun, etc. Everybody can play the DLC, bought or not and they also can see it. The same logic will be applied to all add-ons. This is what leads me to think the wand add-on will not be a big game changer. They simply won't fragment the community all of a sudden.

I reckon they'll have to make sure that whatever they do with the wand it'll be more a convenience than a necessity to Lbp so I reckon no2010-01-05 20:10:00

Releasing a dlc that requires the wand would be extremly stupid. Because such a level would allmost have no shot at reaching the front pages since most persons will never ever bother to buy the wand.

The noobs who get to a level that requires this wand will of course get frustrated and give it 1 star. So the people buying it to create with it would be robbed in this way. Unless sony can sell an insane amount of wands there is no way this would be good.

In other words. MM it is not to late to cancell this =)

Well, the thing does look a lot like the pop-it lasso. My guess is that, if you don't have the eyetoy wand, you'll be able to use normal controls to use it. I fail to see your logic. What about everyone having the ability to use it makes it unable to change the game in a big way?

Even if they put in a rumoured creators pack 2 which are beuatifully free it's not gonna be a question that more people than not won't have the wand.
To be honest I can see Sony doing what xbox are going to do with this project natal thing and make a meal out of it and price people out.
I will shake the metaphorical hand of mm if they can squeeze any global effect out of it.
But it's lbp that is the sort of game that can really excel with the wand where others can't but only time will tell.

"game changing" meaning is slightly different for everybody because after all, it's a subjective statement in itself.
Think about games on Wii where you can play with multiple different controllers that you don't need to own like Smash or Fire Emblem where you can either control the game with the WiiRemote/Nunchuck combo, the Classic or the Gamecube controller. The game in itself is the same even if you use another controller. So if the wand option for LBP is something like this, just offering a different style of control over the game, this isn't game changing to me. The game is the same regardless the controller you use.

I agree.
And I don't think that it will be game changing simply because it won't be popular enough and I think it will only be an optional controller. Thinking about it, I think that it would only work in a limited area of LBP.
But sport games could be someting else.
The next craze to hit LBP after water...
Probably not

That could spark a bit of life back into the bomb dodger.
You would have to buzz the wand on the bomb to defuse it before your sack dust, just gives it that added urgency.
What I'm thinking if anyone has played mario party, there's a track you must follow where obstacles move and kill you but you could buzz to stop them.

Imagine the amount of minigames the wand could create as well.
Maybe it'll be the paintinator but using the z axis that would be cool.
Imagine the first level on the mgs dlc but without having to use stickers.
AWESOME

I just found out LBP CAN be controlled with a wheel. Steer left and right to walk. The pedals and the wheel control up and down when using the popit. Funny stuff. Who's gonna make the first driving simulator? haha2010-01-08 22:17:00

I suppose so.
If it is 4 players using a wand I don't fancy the chances on improving lbp connection.
Surely that'll slow the system down like a dog in a lamppost factory
(okay not my greatest analogy but the point still stands)

For a pinball creation you could "simply" rig the entire pinball table with that pink material to "bump" the table. Could be a nice feature.2010-01-08 23:13:00

Those puzzles with the balls and trying to get them through a hole without knocking the ball off the platform. But the M-C will have to be VERY precise.2010-01-09 20:59:00

more motion control would be cool.

ex: more things you can do with your sack person, possible vehicle control, more ways of teamwork.

what would be the problem of having more stuff on lbp?

So apparently it could be a diffrent game....
