LBPCentral Level Series

Introduction

So I was thinking and I'm not really sure if this has ever been done before, but my love for the classic platformers from the N64 days (Mario 64 as well as Banjo are two of my favorite games of all time) has brought this idea to me.

What if I were to create a level series in which there is an introduction to a story, followed by and "overworld" level, containing multiple different themed levels? I think it could be a really interesting way of creating a series by including the overworld element.

The Explanation

Basically what I mean is this:

Intro - Introduction to story, rather short level, but there will be stuff to do and it won't just be a cutscene.

Overworld: Will act as the "portal" to all other levels in the series, and it'll be a lot like the Castle in Mario 64 or Grunty's Lair in Banjo-Kazooie.

Followed by maybe 6-10 themed levels ranging from a forest, to maybe a winter level, maybe a desert, ect. They will all be different enough and I hope that no themes will even remotely overlap. They can, but only as long as the overlap is really minor and hardly noticeable unless shown specifically.

After each of the themed levels/worlds are finished, the final battle against whoever the big baddie will be the last and final level of the series. So yeah, it's a lot like the two games I'm comparing it to, but it'll be original in the sense of story and characters.

How It's Different

By throwing the overworld element into play, I feel it'll open a lot of new ways of going about through a series of levels. I was thinking maybe in the overworld level itself, there will be a sticker of some sort that'll open up the first of the themed levels. Basically you collect as many of these different stickers as you can in each level, bring them back to the overworld and place them on switches to unlock a key to the next world. Look at them as stars or jiggies from Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie respectively. I'm somewhat unsure of how to go about making sure people won't somehow abuse the system, but I'm looking for help on that as well.

But you see, creating 9-13 good levels by myself would be completely impossible, and chances are I'd ditch the entire thing altogether. With the help of the entire community, and the creativity that I know exists here, I'm pretty sure a very epic series can arise. I just hope that some of the big creators look at this and give it a thought. So let me know what you think. ;D

Just add me. All of my friends who have seen my work (about 15-20 friends) have been very, VERY impressed with all my work. I might be helpful there in the cold airless moon...

Well he's not talking about it actually being based off LBPC like my project, he's just saying that it'd be made by LBPC but have it's on unique story. So no, not really the same thing

Anyway, interesting idea, I'd love more stuff like this personally, so yeah. not too good a creator, but, um, yeah... ... /runs

You're right, it's not based off LBPC's community, but rather just made by us.

I think it could be quite fun, but I'm still trying to think of a way to incorporate the sticker idea and make sure that people are ok with collecting the stickers from the levels. Some people leave that collecting thing off, which could lead to some problems (such as starting the level with it off, collecting said sticker and then giving up because they found out it's needed later).

I would like to work on this! Well probably....

I can make everything look good and play well (essentially platformers), but can not think of a story so I'd be able to make a level if I have something to base it off of!

P.S. I'd do a desert level for sure! ;D
