Help with Rescue Winch Idea

Archive: 8 posts

Hello everyone. As I'm sure you can see, I'm very new here, but I'm extremely impressed with the amount of knowledge contained here. I recently discovered the logic pack from this site and am underway working on going through all the tutorials.

In the meantime, though, I wanted to work on a little side project, and I could use some help with the logic on a little system I want to use for a level of mine. To help describe what I'm going for, I made a picture!

The idea is this:

1. A player is detected floating in the water beside the ship.
2. The piston on the winch shoots out over the edge of the ship.
3. Simultaneously, the winch drops down (fast) into the water.
4. The player grabs onto the winch, triggering
5. The winch to begin reeling the player up to safety (slower than it dropped).
6. When the player reaches a safe height, the piston snaps back in and pulls the player back over the ship so he/she can drop back on board and resume running amok.

When not being used, the winch should be stored in the ghosted position. The ship will move, so any sensors would have to be attached to the ship (I'm guessing).

Thanks in advance for any advice to get this little beast working!

Hope that helps.

You just need to set the timing for some switches for it to work right.

I think it looks kinda complicated so...

The piston which has the yellow magnetic key activates the emitters that then activate the winches and pistons on the boat.
The one with the orange key activates those pistons that go down and make the cubes dissolve themselves which makes the pistons and winches on the boat go in the other direction.

I'm tempted to say that's brilliant, napero, except it might be just slightly beyond my understanding still, haha. I'm definitely keeping that sketch for when I come back to this project, after I finish the logic tuts. Thanks for the input!2010-01-01 23:08:00

I found a little problem in my sketch, i didn't think about the switches when they come back, because they obviously make stuff activate again...

I think you have to emit a little car that goes into one direction and disappears after it has activated the switches, then you can emit a new one.

just switch it to one-shot. It quickly comes in (does not activate the stuff, i think). then slowley goes out. and i dont think you need to do anything to the mag. keys on the top.2010-01-02 03:04:00

Well I've decided to keep it simple for the story version of the level with a basket that only operates when you grab it (lame, I know). I'll incorporate the ideas from this thread into the survival challenge version of the level at a later date.2010-01-02 15:32:00
