Spazzy pistons!

Archive: 7 posts

Want flying enemy that tracks horizontal movement, then swoops down once sackboy underneath it. Sounds easy enough. Rig enemy to horizontal tracker device using vertical piston activated by prox switch, right? But vertical piston won't stay stiff. Swings around like bloody winch even on stiff setting. Problem worse once object captured and emitted. Piston goes spaz, twists self around and snaps. Grr.

Help?

Excuse grammar. "National Talk Like Rorschach Day" today.

looks like the object that its attached to is to heavy. I suggest putting more pistons (say 3) on both the horizontal and vertical.

EDIT: Also if you put pistons on either side of the horizontal one, and set them to stiff but a strengh of 1, It should provide more stability (I think). :[

Try using two pistons side by side where they're giving you problems. I'm not sure this will work but give it a try either way.

Another thing you could do is make the block of material, that the bottom of the piston is attached to, a little wider so you can put some rubber (or elastic, whatever it's called) on each side to possibly make it a bit more stiff and keep it from wiggling as much.

Hope these can help you!

Ensure the tracker is significantly heavier than the enemy, potentially having it on a glass track for stability.2010-01-01 19:34:00

Thanks. Exta pistons didn't work, so will try this.

_______

Like that? With the <>< being the creature and the ---- being glass the |___| being a block the

| being a piston so the block is moved by the piston and when the enemy is above the piston does like that, but it slides along the glass bit

Do it like that?

Yes Kernel M. That kind of set up.

Anyway. Resolved problem with combination of rtm's and theamilien's suggestions.

Thanks. All working as needed now.
