Site crashing/hanging

Archive: 23 posts

For the past 3 or 4 days, LBPC seems to be hanging or crashing quite regularly for me. I only seem to be able to view one or two threads (or a few pages of a single thread), and the site hangs.

I don't want to presume that it's been since the server migration, but I have to actually restart the browser (IE7) to be able to carry on viewing/posting, only for it to happen again after about half a dozen clicks.

I've deleted all temporary files and hard refreshed, but it still seems to happen.

Anything else I could try, or is it teething troubles server side?

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm just trying Safari to see if I get any problems. It's just that I prefer IE and have never had any issues before this last week.

EDIT: Okay, been using Safari for 15 minutes and had no crashes/hangs at all. I'm presuming it may be a problem with the new server and IE7? May be worth investigating though as I would've thought there will be quite a high number of IE7 users.

yeah it's a problem with IE. best thing to do is switch over to another browser till the issues are fixed. (if they'll ever be)2009-12-30 16:45:00

I am using Firefox, but I think the site is still mis-configured a bit in regards to the Database server. At least that is what it looks like concerning the errors I am seeing on my end.2010-01-04 15:51:00

If its anything like what I've got then any other website will be fine but the tinterweb just gives up. It's like watching big brother, it's an annoying thing and its not going anywhere

I cannot advise IE at all ever - that said, I have all browsers installed on this computer (well, I dont have lynx) - the site has just been down a few times the last few days, it is not browser related.2010-01-04 20:30:00

We have been working to solve this, I promise. We found the cause of the problem (RAM usages spikes cause the server to crash) but we haven't found the cause of the cause, if that makes any sense. We're still trying to understand why the memory usage is spiking so we can fix it. I have recently posted a server optimization request at vbulletin.com, so they might be able to help. I will keep everyone updated.

As to browser-specific problems: it has nothing to do with the browser in this case. Our server is simply not able to handle the crazy memory spikes, so it goes down and takes a bit to reset itself. In those times when it goes down and does not come back up for an extended period of time (more than 15-30 minutes), it went down while I was sleeping and it failed to reset itself. In those cases, I have to do a manual reset, which means if I'm not here when it goes down, it won't go back up until I'm here to reset it.

Still having problems

If you had a switch to sense when the server goes down and set it to directional, and a player proximity switch set to directional/inverted .. wire them both into an AND switch that's set to directional .. wire that into a set-reset switch which is set to 'on'. Wire that switch into an OR switch that's set to one-shot .. Then wire the OR switch to an emitter/toggle switch that's set to 'on'. Now place a switch that senses when the server is working correctly and set it to directional and wire it to the right side of the set-reset switch. Then go back and place another switch on the right side of the set-reset switch and set it to directional (I guess we could have used a 'switcher' instead of a 'set-reset'.. oh well). Wire that into the OR switch. Now go back and wire the toggle switch into the server - now if the server goes down and you're not around, problem solved

Getting these pretty severely:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@lbpcentral.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I was snooping about as a guest (it wouldn't let me log in), and I noticed that I could move freely among the forums, but couldn't view any of the threads. I kept getting that server error message. Just started getting it now that I'm logged on as well... Hope it's not more issues and whatnot.

Me too. I was actually trying to post that when the site went down completely for a few minutes on me. I'm getting the same error. Started around 11:30am here so it's been doing it for about an hour. I'm running Firefox on a Mac system.2010-01-12 18:41:00

Right, but before it would just tell the guest that they needed to register in order to view certain posts. For me, the page wouldn't load at all.
