R.I.P Jimmy Sullivan

Early in the morning of Tueday 29th December, Jimmy Owen Sullivan a.k.a The Rev passed away of 'natural causes'. He was the co-founder, drummer and singer in Avenged Sevenfold, and in my opinion one of the best Metal drummers there has been. He was 28 when he passed away. R.I.P Jimmy Owen 'The Rev' Sullivan. When I heard about it at first I didn't believe it because of how young he was. R.I.P The Rev. | 2009-12-29 19:46:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |
I know Natural causes? Yeah right. Absinthe or drugs are the most likely... He was far too young, thoughts go out to his family I just hope A7X don't stop because of this, he wouldn't want that, and although he was an integral part of the band, they need to keep going ... | 2009-12-29 19:49:00 Author: Unknown User |
I actually found out about this from my mum last night. He was a great drummer and I'm not sure A7X will be able to find someone to replace him, though I hope they do. Dream Theater continued after they lost their drummer, and I'm sure A7X can, too. It raises the question, though, of where this leaves their new album. | 2009-12-30 15:35:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
I really hope they can continue. The new album is all written, all the Revs parts are in it, it just needs recording. I feel that, at the very least, this will be recorded and released in tribute to him. I just hope that if they dog et a new drummer they don't do what Metallica did after Cliffs death, and pick on the new member and blame him for everything, causing him to leave... | 2009-12-30 16:06:00 Author: Unknown User |

I feel that, at the very least, this will be recorded and released in tribute to him.I think that would be a good approach. That's what Dream Theater did with their newest album, since their drummer died either during recording or shortly after it was finished. I just hope that if they do get a new drummer they don't do what Metallica did after Cliffs death, and pick on the new member and blame him for everything, causing him to leave...Yeah, I agree. Then again, the A7X guys don't strike me as jerks like Metallica are. But that's just me. | 2009-12-30 17:15:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
I wouldn't say Metallica re jerks so to speak... Well, maybe Lars is, but i prefer to think f him as misunderstood. And if you liked the Revs stuff (Little Piece of Heaven) check the band i linked in the discover new music thread, called Pinkly Smooth. It's The Rev and Syns side project. | 2009-12-30 20:24:00 Author: Unknown User |
I will definitely give them a listen sometime. | 2009-12-30 21:27:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
I'm just gutted about him dying, he had a really unique drumming style, not too mention his voice, which was also different and awesome | 2009-12-30 22:44:00 Author: Unknown User |

For anyone who hasn't seen anything about Jimmy, or has only seen him drum, this video shws the funny, crazy, insane side of Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan. Contains language... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSAXjQB3zEQ | 2009-12-31 18:21:00 Author: Unknown User |
No freakin way... I go on a cruise and it's like I've been isolated from the real world. Wow this is unreal. | 2010-01-04 04:57:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
I went to Best Buy after school today to pick up City of Evil and Avenged Sevenfold, thinking I could play them for a while as a tribute to The Rev, but they were out. Completely out! Best Buy has never let me down like this before. | 2010-01-05 20:56:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
I had them all downloaded a while back, from iTunes (one of the few times i have bought every album by a band legitimately), it's been on repeat since the 28th... | 2010-01-06 13:40:00 Author: Unknown User |

Not sure where you get your information from, but Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) is not dead. | 2010-01-06 19:29:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |
Not sure where you get your information from, but Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) is not dead. Yeah, Portnoy has been around since the beginning. Dream Theater has had some staff changes, but none on the percussion end of things... | 2010-01-06 20:18:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
Wiggity-what? In the book for Black Clouds and Silver Linings, there are a couple messages that say stuff to the effect of "In Memory of Portnoy" or something like that. I'd bet dollars on it... Now I'm confused. | 2010-01-07 22:36:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

Portnoy's father passed away in '09, so it was probably a dedication to him.Ooooohhhh... That would make more sense. Sorry for the confusion, everyone. | 2010-01-08 14:52:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
