Archive: 25 posts
Greetings happy gadders! TheAdipose (me) and Luos_Desruc have made a pair of tutorial videos. The aim is to help other gadders improve their scenery making skills. This video focusses on making a cave (which could double as an underwater one). We cover loads of topics from shape forming to lighting to stickers and many many more. This is a still of the final cave we will talk you through making.... http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab142/TheAdipose1980/cavetutorialPart2.jpg Cave Tutorial Video Part ONE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhj4GhLrhKY) Cave Tutorial Video Part TWO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm4KggdZd8M) If you find them useful or have any useful feedback for us, please post here. This level is COPYABLE to your moon so you can see what we did. Search for @luos_desruc on littlebigplanet to find it. You are welcome to make requests for topics for future videos, and of course, please check out our levels too. You can check out our levels here... Coming Soon: The Puzzling Pine of Puzzlewood (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=19592) Sack, The legendary - part one (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=19564) Obiviously this video took a long time to make so please keep any criticism kind! Thanks for watching, Adi and Luos | 2009-12-29 11:34:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |

No matter how many of these videos I watch, I still suck at Create mode... Oh well, good tutorial, though. | 2009-12-30 03:00:00 Author: Fail Posts: 11 |
Just keep experimenting fail! Glad you liked the video | 2009-12-30 07:24:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |
Excellent tutorial, nice and clear, and very informative. Beautiful end result, as well. Very useful for any creators trying to learn some simple yet very effective scenery techniques, and some advanced stuff as well. | 2009-12-30 11:01:00 Author: glue Posts: 46 |
Cool, I actually learned quite a bit from you guys. Great tutorial! This will be very useful for new creators looking to expand their knowledge on scenery. Nice job! | 2009-12-30 22:30:00 Author: galacemiguel Posts: 179 |
Nice tutorial, you made it look so incredibly easy. I can see where I have been making the typical newbie mistake of adding by sections and gluing, rather than adding in layers. The same goes for cutting away with addition in another layer. I was watching the Thermo like a hawk while you were making the level, and it sure hit home that this method is not only easier, but far more thermo friendly.:star: By the way,I tried to check out The Puzzling Pine of Puzzlewod and it was locked | 2009-12-30 23:40:00 Author: blackwiggle Posts: 84 |
Yeah that technique is really really useful - especially on irregular shapes like caves and forests. Puzzlewood is locked because we are doing a MASSIVE overhaul of the whole thing then gonna re-release. Sack, the legendary is all up and running though - so give them a go Adi | 2009-12-31 07:35:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |

Really good guide, hoping for more soon! | 2010-01-03 00:48:00 Author: Fredrik94 Posts: 342 |
thanks you guys | 2010-01-03 11:23:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
This guide is very useful, and the techniques used are very effective. You could (by "could" i mean "absolutely must") make more of these tutorial videos, since there are quite a lot of people who don't know how to make visually impressive stuff, and would love to learn how. Great tutorial you two! | 2010-01-03 14:43:00 Author: TNSv Posts: 302 |
Okay, so you got the cave scenery done, how about expanding the cave idea, coming with various of tutorials on for example showing some good cave challenges you can make etc. and at the end come with a full example level... Just a suggestion | 2010-01-03 20:28:00 Author: Fredrik94 Posts: 342 |
Useful! Thanks! Unfortunately, I suck at caves, and I need to make one in my next level series :/ This helped! Thanks! | 2010-01-03 20:54:00 Author: Plasmavore Posts: 1913 |
Useful! Thanks! Unfortunately, I suck at caves, and I need to make one in my next level series :/ This helped! Thanks! Practice makes perfect! If you are not happy with the results, try again and again untill the results are at least average. After that, if you ever need to create a cave again, things will go a lot faster and you will keep improving yourself! Okay, so you got the cave scenery done, how about expanding the cave idea, coming with various of tutorials on for example showing some good cave challenges you can make etc. and at the end come with a full example level... Just a suggestion The small cave level is copy-able so (if you have the right packs/stickers) why not try to create a nice cave yourself but its a good suggestion and I am sure me and adi will discuss it! | 2010-01-04 00:16:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
Just watched them both and noticed two thinks that you could do different (slightly more efficiently). If you want a dark cave you don't need the global settings tool right at the start, just set everything as you want in the main setting and regarding the light shaft, if you know that a player can't see the shaft don't make one as light shines through materials. PS: You actually have a voice one can listen to unlike most tutorials. | 2010-01-04 10:44:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |

PS: You actually have a voice one can listen to unlike most tutorials. just replied to you but intenet didnt want to publish it lol. if you have an outside part after the cave, you need to change the global lighting again, obviously you will add this to a global lighting object, but especially when adding the lights you want to change the global settings in your pop-it menu to propperly edit the lighting settings of lamps/lights. If you did so, you still have your global lighting object at the beginning with the right settings. So even if you forget to change back the global lighting settings, when playing your level the lighting will always be correct. also, if your spotlight has shadows, the wall will get in the way with some of the fog/bloom/ray effect it has. therefore we added the hole. will try ingame later to be sure. | 2010-01-04 16:37:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
Fair enough. Everyone does it differently. Walls only have an effect on light beams if you set it to shadow. I'm pretty sure that light set to Foggy or Normal passes through it like its not there | 2010-01-04 16:44:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
since ours where set to shadow... you get the point normal and foggy go trough walls like a ghost. | 2010-01-04 16:53:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
Guys...wow. I've only watched the first clip...but wow. I'm definitely gonna try some of these techniques...the lighting might be a bit more difficult....but meh. you guys, even though you might not like it, would you be up for doing something with the extra background glitch from a long time ago? That lets you put in materials all the way to the horizon? I've wanted to find a cool way of doing it, but I just can't think of anything. | 2010-01-12 21:55:00 Author: Ragfell Posts: 729 |
well.. adi suggested we would not use glitches since they tend to updated and removed. Though I have the gut feel they will leave the 3d glitch and invissible material glitch alive since so many people use it. We did use it in our magpie level though, I have never used it, ladylyn explained it to me once, but I have not been able to do it myself, if you know how to propperly use it, you should show me! Me and adi can allways discuss the possiblity though | 2010-01-12 22:09:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
Just watched both videos. They are really well made and clearly explained. Its always interesting to see how other people create levels. You could try using the layer glitch, it takes a while to get used to and even longer to be able to create decent backgrounds. I'd say there are very few decent examples of it on lbp- perhaps the best being Wexfordians- Snakes on a Dame. Or Anposteller's Swinging Silhouette. But if i were you, I'd stick to videos like this... they're especially helpful for beginner/inter-mediate creators. Also, it would be quite nice to see some puzzles incorporated in the future! | 2010-01-12 22:56:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Thanks for the feedback lad. We will probably do some more advanced ones in the future. This was our first one - the boat, temple, forest and logic video tutorials do have some basic puzzles and explanation. Adi | 2010-01-12 23:40:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |
