Societal Retardation

Archive: 33 posts

To take a break off my usual odd articles and joyful antics, lets talk about something serious. Something possibly, ABOUT YOU!

Warning: Offensive Material (if you couldn't tell by the title calling society retarded. .)

Majority of my school (and I'm guessing yours too) wears random teams hats (completely random) with the sticker still on, in a size way too big for them, and you can hardly even call it "wearing" it because of the mind boggling ways they have to wear it.

http://static.funnyjunk.com/pictures/guide_for_douchebags.jpg

You have that. . and then overall everyone just sticking with the crowd.

Wouldn't it be logical that "popular" music should be good music? It should right? Well the music people are so in love with today IS HORRIBLE!

Do they even know what they're listening to or do they just buy/"get" songs they hear on MTV?

Just look at the lyrics of some of the songs (mainly that crap rap everyone thinks is good cause they're so dumb that a simple beat attracts them).

Lets take Lil' Wayne for example. You can probably already tell by the terrible name that he will suck.

Well lets look at the first song lyrics results for "Lil' Wayne" that I find. Eh scratch that. . the first song that comes up talks about him plowing his mother or some sick crap like that. Just look for yourself (http://www.metrolyrics.com/need-some-quiet-lyrics-lil-wayne.html) (warning: foul language and sexual content). Alright, lets go to the second song.

Nope, this ones just as bad, it's called 1000 Degrees. Lets just look at the chorus, it's clean.

"I'm Me!
I'm Me!
I'm Me!
I'm Me!
Baby, I'm Me!
So, Who You?!
You Not Me!
You Not Me!"

This kids brilliant. .

Anyway. . music and apparel are just 2 examples.

I did only mention hats, lets move on to apparel in general.

What do you see people wearing most?

Cloth like Aebercrombie (and all other preppy shirt brands), North Face, Uggs, etc.

You buy these expensive cloth solely cause somehow it's name got "popular".

Take North Face. It's just a big black puffy jacket. I can make that in my garage ffs. But what did you pay for it? $200?!

My friend was complaining how it's not even that comfortable, and then he said he paid 200 for it and I was like "you gotta be f'ing kidding me".

Train of thought at the store: "Oh well. . it's sure expensive, it's pretty bland, and well it's not that comfortable, but everyone else has one so I NEED this jacket".

The word "popular" revolves around all of this. It's meaning and purpose in life just makes everyone stupid and makes them act like something they're not. In my opinion this word is way worse then the f word (which I'm only calling that as I don't want to get banned for evading the censors. I can do a whole other rant about "swear words", but lets not. .). It causes far more pain to people then a simple f bomb.

Well that's all I have to say (as of now). I just felt like ranting about this, as I've always been sick of society for quite a good amount of years. The retardation has just gone up year after year. I wont be surprised if this gets locked, it's pretty offensive, but you should feel offended if you act this way. People need a huge reality check. . it's like they're brainwashed. I don't think I can even count to 5 for the amount of people I know not "brainwashed" by society. (I probably sound somewhat loony saying brainwashed don't I? lol)

Anyone else sick of our generations overall retardation?

I can't stand it. Bring back the 90's, gosh. .

P.S. I just noticed how long I made this. Sorry .

England ftw :hero:

Over here we don't tend to get that problem, although at school the 'populars' go on the urban dictionary daily to make sure they can keep their language 'street'.

Personally I find it very amusing

I'm sorry but none of this is new. Fashion dates back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. It's always been like this - people buying overpriced, impractical clothes to be fashionable. It's not just brand name stuff either - how many people pay double the price to have an album cover on their hoody? It's exactly the same. I pay over the odds for a lot of my clothes. I don't tend to buy branded products, but I buy more expensive clothes if I like the styling on them and the price is generally because they come from certain shop, so it's the same thing. I know it's a rip off, but I don't really mind. Does this make me retarded?

Many people enjoy bad music and they always have done. Many people enjoy bad films and bad TV. Loads of people love trash - often not because they think it's actually good, but simply because it's easy going. They aren't going to analyse the plot holes in hollyoaks, or pretend lil wayne's lyrics are intended to be deep poetry with any meaning to it - they just like the way it sounds on a very simple, subjective, aesthetic level. So what? How is that a serious blight on society? Because people are enjoying something you don't you're gonna call them retarded?

You posted that video about the Twilight fans yesterday and do you know what - I was going to post that the fact that moronic clips like that pass as "humour" indicates a widespread retardation of society. I was even going to use those exact words, but I decided not to be so judgemental. If I'm honest though, I don't see what separates you from other people enjoying trashy media.

Anyway, I'm not actually anyway near as angry about this as my writing might suggest I really couldn't care less, I'm happy for people to enjoy the things they wanna enjoy - especially when it's not hurting me, or impeding me in my life in any way. I just thought I'd try to drag you down from that high horse of yours

I wear and like North Face outdoor stuff, being comfortable and warm obviously makes me a retard then.

Its called choice, free will and taste, and no one person can be tell others what they will like because you don't. That actually shows more social retardation in yourself than the people you're calling.

Well, I thi-*crushed by wall of text*

Anyway, I agree with TC, like, 15000000%. Stuff that's "popular" these days is usually really stupid. Music, TV shows, clothes, etc. Heck, even a lot of the "popular" video games are really lame. *coughMW2cough* I've always thought this way, but I'm glad that someone else made this topic. I mean, I'm sitting at my desk, listening to Rhapsody of Fire and wearing an Iron Maiden Tshirt I got at Hot Topic, while in easy reach are a slew of fantasy novels.

Oh, speaking of redardation of society, what about the fact that no one reads anymore? By which I mean, no one just sits down to read a good book for the heck of it anymore. I've always thought reading was a good thing to do, but no one seems to agree with me. Just ask anyone in my class, and they'll all say about the same thing: "Read? Who reads??"

I'm gonna wrap this post up before I go off on a larger wall of text than TC had, but still I agree with this topic.

I mean, I'm sitting at my desk, listening to Rhapsody of Fire and wearing an Iron Maiden Tshirt I got at Hot Topic...

Oh, you didn't even mean to do that, did you?

I bought my wife a North Face coat for Christmas because it's what she wanted. And - in the end - I'm just glad she likes it.

Speaking for Americans, the youth of our nation have been slaves to MTV for over 25 years at this point. And the saddest part of that whole mess is MTV hasn't played a single music video from start to finish (other than when Michael Jackson died) in the past decade. Instead, MTV is a vast mess of disjointed reality shows revolving around white-trash, single parents and a "flavor of the week" talk show disguised as a music countdown. In case you were curious, this rant was never going anywhere...

Being 25, I'd like to see if anything has really changed since I was in high school - secondary school I think to some. I have the feeling that things have changed, but perhaps it's more likely that trends always stay the same and people just grow older and - in turn - grow into new trends. Either way, isn't it just inherent that we as part of the human civilization strive to fit in?

Also, keep in mind that I'm strongly considering closing this thread as I just don't see it going anywhere remotely positive. Either we should find something productive here or lock it up tight.

^I'm not saying that there aren't people who genuinely like MW2, I'm just saying a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon, so to speak, and bought it because everyone else bought it and they didn't want to be left in the rain, so to speak. Plus, in reality, MW2 is a very popular game that people are hailing as the best thing ever, but it's really nothing more than any other FPS out there, except this one has the words "Modern" and "Warfare" in the title, so people salivate over it.

If I were to take the storyline, tweak it a bit, take out the recognizable characters, and market it as the best thing ever, like MW2 was, no one would buy it. They would say it wasn't that great and it wasn't innovative. Because it wouldn't be.

Lil' Wayne's pretty good. You obviously haven't heard We Be Steady Mobbin'.

Drake is also awesome.

Know who is really terrible, though? Soulja Boy. Worst rapper ever.

Anyway, people being stupid is nothing new. It's trends. It's not that we've become stupider. You think it's bad now? Look at the 80s.

Well.. that makes two of us. I have worn North Face and Patagonia outer and inner layers for quite a few years now. In fact, I wore it before rap singers were around and made enough money to buy it!!

I guess they saw me and thought.. "Dang... he is warm! I gots to have me one!"

Sorry to start a trend in keeping warm in the chilly winter!! LOL!

I knew making it called "Societal Retardation" instead of something more simple like "Flaws In Society" might get more backlash, but I was just in one of those moods when I made the thread. And then I went to sleep (it was like 4 am. . lol insomnia) so I didn't really have time to change my mind hehe.

Anyway. . maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the 90's. . no generation is really an overall good example.

What I remember. . was at some point (who knows what year(s)). . a short point. . people who walked around wearing hats like that and colorful jackets you'd only see on someone like Soulja Boy (I couldn't agree more Aweseomemans, he is the worst rapper ever) were the ones who were criticized - and now it's practically the opposite (even though they were probably the ones criticizing about how dumb the people looked wearing them were originally). Wear a hat normally (like a baseball player, the way it was made to be worn) in my school and people will laugh cause you don't have it hanging off your head at a 270 degree angle. I miss when it was the opposite.

It use to be said that these people were "trying to be black" (a little racist sure, but you'd only see black people wearing cloth like that at that time) and now well. . I'm not sure they even have a train of though (or a mirror for that matter).

Lil' Wayne's pretty good. You obviously haven't heard We Be Steady Mobbin'.

If he can't even speak proper english in the title then I don't want to hear what type of garbage comes out of his mouth in the song, but I will anyway ("We be" isn't proper English).

Alright. . I'm not sure how that song is any different. The singing was terrible, the beat was mediocre (and just a beat. I'd rather hear that played on the drums), and the lyrics were horrible.

Anyway. . about the trends in other era's like say the 80's someone pointed out (I don't feel like quoting 1 person when a few of you mentioned the topic). Well what do you expect me to talk about? I'm 17 not 100. If I'm going to complain about something, it's going to be something going on now.

even a lot of the "popular" video games are really lame. *coughMW2cough*
The same can be said for XBOX360, O:!

Sorry. . couldn't resist.

Fashion these days, I mean really. Pants pretty much down to people's knees, people acting all "gangster like" when they need to find the reality of what um well, reality really is. A gangster is a member of a crime organization, such as a gang. Pretty much and kids these days are saying, "Hey guys let's go act like a gangster and be stupid trying to do it by having our fashion completely different like having our pants down to our knees so everyone can see our underwear and wear hats double our head size, uh huh huh huh."
And yet when they grow up they will probably get killed or beat up for acting in that way. I mean really!
The sad part is that I am pretty much in this generation (I'm 13 going 14 in 3 months)
I have an odd group of friends that half of them are pretty much into metal/death metal music and I think all that talk about death or really hard to hear stuff like that is better than the raps people come up with today. I am different than most people and listen to any genre. but never rap and not much of metal. Mostly rock, country, random, and somewhat pop.

(I think this post is too long lol)

Okay, listen up children. This statement isn't really racist, it's stereotyping. Chezhead said that all black people like rap and sag their pants and like Modern Warfare 2, which is obviously false. Racism is the belief that one race is superior, if my history books are correct. You could argue that stereotyping is just as bad as racism, and that's a valid argument, but I just want all of you to stop calling everything racist. Thank you.

I don't see what being black has to do with any of this. After all, the best rapper alive today is Eminem. The problems with society lie not in rap culture, but with ******-baggery in general. See the MTV show, Jersey Shore, for reference. As a matter of fact, today's problem isn't with the rap culture at all! That's the 90s! These days, the problem is retards on the internet going "FAIL" and "LAWL!" The internet is the problem these days. They're calling this generation the "me" generation. Everyone thinks everyone else cares about their twitter account. Oh my god! You're eating a sandwich?!? That's so AWESOME!

Eh most big time rap, much like most mainstream music isn't all that much to listen to. Local/underground stuff usually sounds better and have good lyrics. You know, crap you can relate to.
Or old stuff, like the 80s were golden.
Of course this is all opinion, for example, I can barely stand happy hardcore.

But yes, it's always been like this. People are rather impolite about their opinions sometimes and sometimes fads that go around aren't entirely logical and there's nothing really you can do about it.
I try to enjoy myself worry too much about other people.

The king of the general boards strikes again! And it's true. And anyways, regardless of what's in the music, you can say metal is better in many ways, based off the fact taht the musicians are infact talented musicians, not just people who can use a computer and talk fast.

This is the kind of elitism that most metal heads have that I hate. I hope you're not referring to Kirk Hammett as a talented musician.

Did i ever mention anyone specific?

I will mention him however. He does indeed overuse the wah, but he is, at the end of the day, the lead guitarist in arguably the biggest metal band of all time, and to do that you have to have some talent. The solo's he play without the wah are great, and his playing in general is very clean. That's similar to the people who say Lars can't drum... Obviously he can, or he would be in the biggest metal band in the world.

Either way, my point was that there are people who can talk fast and work a computer to get a generic beat, and there are people who can actually play instruments. And with the exception of DragonForce, the Metal bands aren't the ones making themselves good with a computer.

Hold on, is this from an American, whose nation mourned when they lost a couple of idiots who sold **** on the tv?

For a start, the entire sentence was dripping with sarcasm. I'm not mourning, i'm not crying. However, i am quite sad about it. He was an amazing drummer and very talented. He was also a member of one of my favourite bands, who may not continue without him. He was always having fun, and he was a generally nice guy. I'm allowed to be sad about it, just like you Americans were sad when the fat ******* and the child molester died.
