Making an Atlantis style level - Ideas?
Archive: 12 posts
Hi. After months with practicing Create Mode (long before I joined), messing with different level concepts, I settled down on one: Basically, The King has found the location of the legendary underwater city of Atlantis (The History Kit background was perfect for this) and presumes there would be treasure. Because he can't swim, he would send the player down there to retrieve this treasure. I've started the level off, with the player starting on a dock and the King explaining the situation. The player would then dive down and start a race, going a very long way down before the finish, where the player would go down into the sunken city. (The level starts at literary at the top of the level, the entire stage will be underwater) Now, any ideas on traps or puzzles for both the race decent and Atlantis itself? Should I put in enemies? Or how about a giant sea monster living down there? Note: Since I'm using the real water, fire and MGS plasma balls are out of the question. | 2009-12-27 22:08:00 Author: Beed28 Posts: 200 |
A variation of the spinning spikes on the Pirates levels. | 2009-12-28 09:07:00 Author: Grimdour Posts: 142 |
Atlantis should have a lot of booby traps and secret spots in it, and why not make a new sort of species living there, you could have good and bad ones | 2009-12-28 11:44:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
What about a boss. A lone, gigantic creature guarding the entrance of the city, maybe the kraken, a giant fish or maybe even a hybrid between a monkey and a jellyfish? Whatever works best! | 2009-12-28 12:47:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
this would be good look at the film atlantis, animated one to get ideas | 2009-12-28 15:04:00 Author: geddez12 Posts: 338 |
this would be good look at the film atlantis, animated one to get ideas Agreed. Oh, and while we're on the subject of bosses, why not make the LEVEL the boss? You dive in and discover Atlantis was not just a city, it was a massive golem and you have to defeat it by going inside. | 2009-12-28 20:59:00 Author: Grimdour Posts: 142 |

You dive in and discover Atlantis was not just a city, it was a massive golem and you have to defeat it by going inside. Nice idea, but I've now already settled down on a boss. Posiden, the Greek God of the Ocean. He lives within Atlantis, and he won't take kindly to strangers such as you. Especially if you're after his treasure. :arg: | 2009-12-28 23:24:00 Author: Beed28 Posts: 200 |

Actually, Poseidon created Atlantis. So facing him would be a "twist" I guess... | 2009-12-30 19:36:00 Author: Night Angel Posts: 1214 |
Ok, so I'm a bit rusty at this subject, but whatever. Atlantis was originally a city over water, then sunk for some reson? Maybe some of the story could be about discovering why it sunk, and what happend to it's inhabitants? Maybe Poseidon punished them for something that they did, and when you come around trying to discover the truth he decides to get rid of you or something. I'm going wikipedia now to read about Atlantis so I won't fail totally when coming with more ideas EDIT: Ok been at wikipeida... Poseidon didnt punish them, but Zeus did, because of their obsession of material goods, and they never got satisfied. So they got killed by the gods using the nature forces against them. Most likely tsunamis, etc. since it's commonly belived that Atlantis was an island somewhere in the Atlantic ocean. So that's probably how the city ended up under water as well... However, you don't have to follow the ''truth'', so you could make up your own theories and story-line etc. Hope some of this helped you. | 2009-12-31 03:29:00 Author: Fredrik94 Posts: 342 |

Let's just say that Poseidon was easily angered by the wicked people living in his city and he sunk it in his rage. About the boss battle against him, I haven't made it yet (I rarely have access to the PS3), but I thought up three of his attacks: He would attack in a set pattern, shooting electric tridents at you, then he would cause an earthquake and cause boulders deadly to the player to float down, and then he would fire a sweeping laser beam at you. Repeat. Now how would the player deal damage to him? Hmm... | 2009-12-31 15:26:00 Author: Beed28 Posts: 200 |
