Black Wing Voyager - An advanced, solid-wood flying pirate ship.

An advanced flying pirate ship
all
The Black Wing Voyager is an advanced (flying) pirate ship. Me and jedi_1993 made the ship. We worked about 2 days on it. UltimateClay stickered it and tested the ship with me.
It has the following features:
- Sail and Flight mode. There is a switch on the upper deck of the ship. If you flip it, the boat enters Flight mode. The ship rises up into the air and controls almost like it does on the water, only in the air. If you flip the switch back again, it goes into Sail mode and drops down into the water. The system is explained in the level (grab the sponge), it is a mouthful to explain.
- It is made of wood and cardboard. The top part is mostly all wood, the weight compartment is mostly all cardboard - so the weight compartment is vulnerable, the top part is not.
- To control the direction the ship sails/flies, you turn the steering wheel.
- Auto-stop: That is how we like to call it. If any player in your party jumps from the ship, it stops moving and if it was in flight mode, it drops down into the water. Once the player enters the ship again, the ship continues, so if it was in flight mode it will rise up again.
- Four cannons

I have yet to release this as a prize bubble. I have done that for a very short time, but we decided we wanted to secure our rights, so I removed the prize bubble. This thread is (hopefully) proof that we made it.

I will eventually release the prize bubble, once the proof stands that we three made it.

Search for 'Black Wing Voyager' or '@robinlint' to get to the demo level. Have fun!

Please criticize, and share with me any tips and ideas you have for it
If you like it, please rate it 4 or 5 stars so that more people get to see the level. I don't care about hearts, though if you want to 'favorite' it feel free to heart.rob

Looks interesting, i already made a little flying Pirate Ship for the Contraption Challenge 04, i used my SixAxiS Engine to make it works well. I was building one for 2 players co-op, but i worked on other projects so i couldn't end it.
My ship was all of pink floaty, and a tiny layer of dissolve to make decorations. It was powered by rockets controlled by the SixAxiS.
Please post some pictures, it's easy to transfer them: you need only a USB Pen, use it on the PS3, go in "Photo" in the XMB and find your screenshots, press Triangle and select Copy. Then use the USB on the Computer and Ta-Daan!
Please post some other infos about flying methods, size, ecc...

I don't have a USB pen handy anywhere here. Maybe tomorrow i'll upload some pictures via the PS3's browser or something. I'll explain it:
Our ship is entirely made of wood and cardboard - most of it is wood. It's really heavy, because when I was building the ship at first, it was supposed to be a battle ship - which it still is, only now it can also fly. The top part of the ship is almost indestructable, only the top stairs are destructable. The lower part of the ship though, is quite destructable, and if that gets destructed the flight system activates permanently. The size... well, it's big. It needs a LOT of space.

There are balloons on top of the ship. A weight is in the base of the ship, that gets emitted via an emitter on a piston. Once the player turns flight mode ON, the emitter shoves outside the ship and the emitter emits the weight outside of the ship, which removes the weight on the inside. When the player turns flight mode OFF, the piston shoves back inside and emits the weight inside the base of the ship. This is all hidden, although a tiny square may be visible when you use the bottom left cannon. Basically an emitter/remitter.
The steering wheel has two magnetic key switches on it, and a magnetic key is behind the wheel. That is how the steering wheel works. It controls two rockets on the side of the ship, which stew it left or right.
The steering wheel plus the flight system are hooked up to AND switches for the auto-stop feature. That's pretty much it. It is also explained in the demo level.

I can't play the level because i'm not home, and i won't be home until the 2nd of January, but i'm really interested to your ship. Wood and cardboard? Wow, it's a pain to make them fly! Good work so. If it flies well, it will be very stable. The pink floaty was very unstable, a little bomb make it goes down.
Good description, i'm imagining how it works. Post some pictures, i'll check them

When we were testing it it hasn't ever flipped over in the water or in flight mode. Making the ship fly wasn't much of a pain, but making the emitter work right was. Timing is key there, and if the timing isn't right the weight slams against the ship. It is fixed now, though . One bug remains: If the block that has the emitter on it smashes against a wall hard enough, it breaks and flight mode is stuck in the setting it was in. I will post some pictures soon, i don't know when though because right now I don't have the tools. One surprise: It has black wings on the sides of it .

Use a PSP if you have one, or even an iPod. Anything with a USB port and storage you can use as long as you can open the files in Explorer.2009-12-26 13:58:00

In that case, i'll do that right away. Oh, and, I renamed the level. It is now "Black Wing Voyager"

The piston breaking is the only problem. I believe it also breaks autostop. However, the ship is nice and epic for roleplaying.

I am glad I helped

UltimateClay: Yes, it does break autostop. But it only happens when it bumps against a wall. Good, I am thankful that you helped

I've added a more detailed explanation with pictures to the level, and a different teleport system.

I did a little cleaning up and merged the two threads. It would have been a shame to lose all your comments. It should all be in order now.

Thank you .
Could you check out the level, please? Nearly every post here has been on screenshots and off-topic stuff - none about the ship itself

The ship is very stable and works very well. While it is entirely possible to break both wings and bomb the bottomost part, you have to make an effort to make that happen.

I like the visuals of the ship too, however, the rightmost cannon is sometimes obscured by the sail and hard to see.
