Attempted Terrorist Attack On Airplane

Archive: 26 posts

Yup, that's right. Another bomb attempt on an airplane. It was on a plane heading to Detroit from Amsterdam, and passengers saw a glow, smoke, and heard pops. One heroic (or crazy) passenger climbed over the scrambling passengers and tackled the Nigerian terrorist who claims he was acting on orders of al-Qaida.

Verdict
I can't believe people still want to bomb planes. So about that heroic passenger... ya, that's what I'm talking about! We be a bringing NFL to the airlines! Next time we see a man with a suspicious package, you best expect a blitz!

haha indeed. You should post a link to a story, instead of just selecting the bits that agree with what you think makes the thread good.

*sigh*

It was a dutch man who reportedly acted to stop the nigerian terrorist. It's not hard to understand MrKittyCat - even with his broken english he was pretty clear the first time, and the second time:

i was happy about the guy that take down the terorist
he is dutch

There is no ambiguity whatsoever. So rather than telling him to read the op, try reading his post and the full news article.

I'm missing the part in the story where he had firecrackers. From what I can tell, he had amounts of the same explosive (pentaerythritol tetranitrate) Richard Reid was trying to use back in 2001 with his infamous shoe bomb. Reports say that the amount of explosives could have blown a hole in the side of the plane. Maybe I'm crazy, but it sounds like a bomb to me...

He had te bomb strapped to his legs. I don't why exactly he would have it there, unless that's New Year's new trend, pop the fireworks on your legs:

Other than that, the components got mixed in flight, which is why it couldn't explode in time. I'll try to find the link again.

Peace

I pretty sure dandy was joking.Unless I'm thinking about a different "bombing" in Detroit, no I'm not joking. If you're going by just the OP, then I can see the confusion, but the guy definitely had firecrackers.2009-12-28 22:59:00

This is the attempted bombing to which I'm referring. This dude had firecrackers and al Qaeda is claiming involvement? I don't think so...

I think it's ridiculous no matter what. I mean, firecrackers? Really? Anyway, I just heard my dad talking about it, so I didn't know everything, but I did know that he had firecrackers and that he pretty much failed at a plane bombing.2009-12-28 23:20:00

A man managed to smuggle enough explosive onto a plane to take it out, and you're still comparing that to firecrackers? Are you paying any kind of attention here?

The fact that the detonation failed is lucky, as far as I'm concerned, I don't know how anyone can celebrate this as a victory against terrorism. A man who was already on a watch-list for terrorism got enough explosives onto a plane that it could have killed everyone on baord and no-one knew about it. That is bad.

Hold on. Where did you hear "firecrackers" mentioned? Nowhere are they referenced in the story I linked to. No one hear - other than you obviously - has mentioned them. I imagine you're comparing the amount of PETN he had to the amount of explosives contained within firecrackers, but that doesn't add up either. That's like saying that one gram of black powder is equivalent to one gram of nitroglycerin.

Where is the misunderstanding here? There must be one; otherwise, it sounds like you're not the least bit concerned with what this man was able to accomplish.

Here's the link I got the Attempted Terrorist Attack On Airplane (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091226/ap_on_re_us/us_airliner_attack) story from. Now I read it carefully, and it says and quote:

An affidavit said he had a device containing a high explosive attached to his body.

There, now that wasn't no firecracker. You saying it was JUST a firecracker is like saying terrorism is no big deal. Well it is. So there. BOOM, case closed.
