Global Camera Object

Archive: 5 posts

This object would control three things: the default camera angle, camera zoom, and camera scroll.

Camera Angle:
Setting the camera angle is the same as setting it on a camera zone object except it would include a time feature to set. This would allow you to determine how long the camera would take to adjust to the new angle.

Camera Zoom:
In the tweak menu, you will be able to determine how much the camera was allowed to zoom in or out should players be split apart or close together.

Camera Scroll:
This is what I really wanted to suggest, but I didn't think it appropriate to suggest an item that would only do this. You would determine how the level scrolls throughout the level. Here are the settings from which you would choose:

Default: That is, the default camera scrolling properties of the game.

Directional Priority: You would select one direction. If one sackperson goes in that direction, the camera will follow him/her. If the others are not going in that direction with that one sackperson, they will be out-of-bounds. Only if all sackpersons are going in the opposite direction will the camera follow them in that opposite direction. This does not mean much at all if there is only one player, but I think it is essential, because I HATE IT when my comrades and I cannot proceed because one stupid player is not moving.

One Way: You would select a direction. The camera will only scroll in that direction. Going the opposite direction would put you out-of-bounds.

Auto Scroll: You would select a direction and a speed. The camera would be independent of the sackperson (with the exception of zoom) while it scrolls in the chosen direction. If Auto Scroll is selected, you would choose one of the following settings:
---Stop: Selecting this will put the camera back in default mode should the camera reach the edge of the map before another Global Camera Object is activated.
---Slide: If the camera reaches the edge of the map, the camera will follow the edge of the map.
---Bounce: The camera will bounce off the edge of the map like in the video game Pong. For example, if the camera is going down and right and it reaches the floor, it will go up and right. If it goes straight right and reaches the right edge of the wall, it will go straight left.

Accompanying all options, except for default, will be Vertical Exception, Horizontal Exception, OR Perpendicular Exception. If this is ON, the camera will keep the game's default settings but ONLY for going up and down, left and right, or the perpendicular directions of the direction chosen (respectively).

I'm not sure if I missed anything. Please comment and thanks for giving me your time.

This is one of the things I would really want, as I always am dealing with the cardboard pattern (the shiny small squares where there is lighted up), on big objects, but it changes with the camera. Instead of having one of those regular angle-things, I think this would be much better.

I am just getting a feeling, though, nothing big, just about that this idea might have been written down before here somewhere, but I have been wrong before...

You mean mah popit version?

Anyway, it just seems too much like Photobooth (or whatever it is) to be that drastic. I can't really understand it either.

Ehh, maybe. I thought maybe it would be cool if there was an object that had a more permanent effect on the camera and added autoscrolling and Super Mario Bros 1 style scrolling where you could go forward but not back.2009-12-30 16:25:00
