Logic pack, piston/winch question.

Archive: 12 posts

Hey guys. i apologize if this is in the wrong place but i'm veery very new to these forums.

so here goes. what i'm trying to do is get a huge block to shoot upward when i hit the switch (with the winch) then slowely push back down (with the piston) but i run into trouble. when i hit the winch the block sometimes shoots up and stays there. or the piston is activated so it just keep going up and down at its own pace....

i want the block to shoot up when the button is activated and then the block to ease its way back down so you have time to run under it. but i want it to stay down until the button is pressed...

sorry if this makes no sense.. im trying to explain it the best i can.

Is the button set to directional? Sounds a little like it might be set to on / off.

This should probably be in Help BTW, but I'm sure they'll let you off

Hmmm, it's directional and the wire is connected to both winch and piston? That should just work2009-12-24 14:18:00

got it. sorry for the trouble.

i was looking at the switch alot closer and realized. i needed a magnetic switch attacked to the piston so it pushed down when the winch hit the top.

this can be locked or what not

As usual, I explain myself better with images

Both are directional, and the winch has more strenght than the piston, that's all - why are you using a quick reset?

EDIT: didn't notice that last post... anyway, you can force the piston to always push the block, instead of only when the bloch is up - just be sure that the winch has more strenght

EDIT2: The logic shown is in a copyable level I just published, feel free to check it

You might also want to use a piston and two winches, so that you can put the piston at strength 10. Two winches at strength 10 is like a strength 20 winch. This is so you don't end up with a weak piston connector that isn't strong enough to do what you want.

At any rate, I'll move this to help. I won't lock it, as you may have use for this thread yet.

I realise the block won't stay at the top.. but can't we do this with ONE piston set to flipper in with a one shot switch.

Hit the switch.. block flies up... and starts descending slowly. You can't time it or pause it at the top but that seems to do what sputnik requested.

You can do it with the quick-reset mechanic, it simply saves you the thermo for the mag switch (woop woop)

With a fast enough moving winch you should be able to overpower a strength twn piston... although there is gravity so it depends how heavy the door is.

Ya, but flipper pistons are generally naff IMO. You have to wait for them and they have way too much power for their own good

I'm using the quick reset for a falling tunnel i guess you would call it. hit the button then run through for your life.

I actually thought i understood the mechanics of this game quite well until i realized theres so many things you can with multiple switches

what else can you do with the quick reset switch? i cant say i have a great imagination when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Erm... I checked all 3 of the copyable levels from the logic pack and didn't find it... I'm embarassed to ask, but which is the quick-reset? I know, I deeply fail... EDIT: found it.... >_>

ANYWAY! I tried connecting the button to the piston; I just updated the level, and it works greatly EDIT: wohooo! guess what, this way it's a quick-reset! now i feel even more embarassed.... it's just that I make logic contraptions, I don't give them names or something, I make and use them.... Ok I'll shut up now and hide in a corner...

LOL. Yeah I do the same. But we kinda had to come up with names for the stuff in the logic pack else it would have been impossible We did have some fun running round in circles on some of them though...
