I just got a new PS3 like 2 days ago. Then I turned it on today and none of the little icon thingies worked! I tried playing LBP but then the system just froze. I hit the on/off button for like 10 seconds and it wouldn't even turn off!!! I AM SOOOOO ANGRY!!! ITS BRAND NEW!!! This is the THIRD time a PS3 has malfunctioned on me! I don't want to have to send it in and get a new one and have to start alllllllllll over with alllllllllll of my games AGAIN. If anyone knows why this is happening, pleaaaaaase comment and tell me! I really need help!

I had to reset my playstation because everything went corrupted literally, as soon as the Water update came out. >=( It still doesn't work because Sony can't put working files on their site or write down help, there's just a link to the forums. But that really stinks. Take it back broken and get a new one easiest solution

I don't want to get a new one! I've had 3 PS3's already!!! I can't back up my saves because when I hit X on something, the **** machine freezes!

Where do you keep it and how much you play it is very important info, and we can't help you much without it. Are you sure it's your PS3? Maybe it's the LBP disc. How do you turn it off? When you said that you pressed the On/off button for ten seconds, what method were you using to turn it off? There are multiple ways to turn it off. You can open the XMB, use the switch on the back (which can harm the PS3), or hold the button near the front until it beeps twice.

I bought a brand new Slim back in October, and after 3 days it froze up alot and said my hard drive was corrupted. Basically... -There are faulty systems out there, but most work fine. It's just bad luck. -ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR SAVED GAME FILES ON A USB DRIVE!

just wondering is it bad to turn it off from the XMB then the back? cause i always do that now i use to just turn it off from the back....

I think that's ok, just make sure it's off, with the red dot on. Then you can turn it off from the back.

Oh dear, mine has been freezing a bit... but then they do now and again anyway, it's so difficult to tell if there is a serious problem. Good advice on backing up the hard drive... or at least the saved data.

well your still in warranty if it died so fast get another one and try a different game, if that one has no problems then it's the lbp disc.

ok, most of the XMB icons won't even appear, like under users, nothings there! no off button or any user icons! when i try to go to music or video, it freezes up. i keep it on a shelf and I don't play for hours at a time! it won't sign me in and i cant back up any of my saves.
