What sound effects would you like to see added to lbp?
Archive: 29 posts
Ever needed a sound effect but couldn't find it? What would you like to see added to lbp? Here are a few I've thought of... they may be included in a pack I don't have or I have overlooked (I'm just typing off the top of my head atm)... or if you may have a way to simulate the sound I'm not aware of... if so let me know and I'll edit the list. Music Chime (think Big Ben tolling) Bells (tuneable like the piano etc.) More tuneable instruments sounds: i.e. trumpet, tuba, flute, banjo, different synthesizer sounds (what one's would you want?) is there already a cowbell? Comic: -Falling sound (like the slowly desending in tone whistle in cartoons when a character is falling a long distance... add it to the comic sounds) -The muted trumpet (wah, wah, wah) you can use as a fail sound effect. Machinery: -teletype sound/printing press, old analogue computer sounds. Transportation Train Horn/Engine (w/doppler effect option)(also consider starting up/slowing down) Helicopter Engine (w/doppler effect option) Jet Engine... (w/doppler effect option) Race Car (w/doppler effect option) Animal -sea gull -rattle snake rattle -wolf howl -eagle Human -Crowds bellowing laughs -Charlie Brown's teacher What tweaks for sounds would you like? Maybe a global sound tool. This is a tool you can hook up to your sound effects so: -You can set a sound to be heard throughout a level reguardless how close you are. (I'm thinking the falling sound effect so you can fall away from it and still hear it) -make it switchable so you can turn off the sound via a proximity switch (again I'm thinking about the falling sound... that way it stops when you hit the bottom) -Volume control for the sound effects that are attached to it. -Add effects to sound... i.e. echo (think how sounds sound different inside a cave). These are just a few I've can remember thinking I wish I had... I'm sure I will remember more as I often forget to write the sounds down when I think of them. Anyway... add to the wish list. As they are added I'll try to seperate them into the lbp sound categories... i.e. (music, comic, machinery, animal, history, human, misc., monster... etc.) | 2009-12-23 21:39:00 Author: enodrawkcab Posts: 238 |
I don't really have any suggestions for new sounds, but what you suggested down that post is excellent, I totally agree. | 2009-12-24 11:08:00 Author: Recurracy Posts: 166 |
Some more monster sounds would be cool, it seems like every monster or boss in littlebigplanet makes the demon scream sound ; | 2009-12-24 11:39:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
Those are awesome ideas for sounds! but i might be wrong isn't there already some sort of bell or somthing in the history pack? | 2009-12-24 11:48:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |
Music Chime (think Big Ben tolling) Bells (tuneable like the piano etc.) Pretty sure those are in the history pack Comic: -Falling sound Speedsetting is your friend. Transportation Train Horn/Engine (w/doppler effect option)(also consider starting up/slowing down) Already there, it's called subway engine I think. Again you can use the speedsetting to get the starting up and slowing down sound. Helicopter Engine (w/doppler effect option) Already in the game Animal -sea gull In the pirate pack. ................ | 2009-12-24 12:03:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I always wanted tweakable electric guitar. Sick rock levels would be created. | 2009-12-24 13:45:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
More cartoony sounds. | 2009-12-24 13:58:00 Author: LordMagicPants Posts: 187 |
The more I think about it... the more I want a tuneable banjo sound. I'm thinking it would come in very handy in a "Deliverance" themed level. Especially since we now have water. "You sure got a purty mouth, NOW SQUEAL LIKE A PIG!" What I learned from the movie "Deliverance" #1, always wear your life jacket when canoeing. #2, do not go canoeing. #3, do not go to a town with people as strange as these. #4, Burt Reynolds IS mortal. #5, Ned Beatty had to squeal like a pig, but did not have a "purty mouth" #6, Bring a rifle, not a Bow & Arrow. #7, Only go camping with friends who will not have a problem when it comes to disposing a body. And finally, #8, if told to squeal like a pig, run, run as fast and as far as you can. Gratuitously plagerized from here (http://www99.epinions.com/review/mvie_mu-1005633/mvie-review-4023-F253B8F-398E3634-prod1). | 2009-12-24 14:22:00 Author: enodrawkcab Posts: 238 |
Eh, I'll take any sounds they are willing to offer. The thing I want the most is a tweakable volume on the sounds. I hate it when you find a great sound, but you can't hear it over the music. Sure, you can stack speakers next to each other, but it's just not the same. Also, some sounds are way to loud to ever use. So, Santa, if you're listening. Tweakable volumes, mkay? | 2009-12-24 14:46:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
There's an eagle in the SoTC costume pack...I picked this up the other day, I've found it pretty useful, has a great crumbling rock sound. I'd like a cricket or cicada...and also an owl. That volume control would also be great. I'd also really like some "normal" voices for dialog bubbles...no manic laughter or crying. | 2009-12-26 06:29:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
I'd be very pleased if we got the dramatic 'Dun Dunn DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!' noise you get on TV and in films. Imagine it: "So sackboy, you must sacrifice one of your friends to continue! Dun Dun DUUUUNNNNN!" | 2009-12-29 13:02:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |
YOu can get an eagle sound from the shaddow of the collosus pack | 2009-12-29 15:03:00 Author: Unknown User |

I like this idea... however to get around it, try lowering the volume of the music just prior to those speakers. In Tiny Town for example, I removed the music altogether to give you more of a factory feel in the power plant. Generally, I keep the music no more than 3/4 volume which helps a bit, though some interactive tracks are kinda quite and may need to be up a bit more. To make sounds quieter, you can move the speakers further away from the location they are triggered. On my wish list for sounds would be more mechanical sounds. Whirring, hummming, and whooshing sort of sounds. It's fun to combine sounds to get a desired effect, but a few more never hurts! | 2009-12-29 16:34:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Volume controls are definitely needed. For example, one of my favourite sounds is tubey-thonk, but it's surprisingly quiet for my tastes. | 2009-12-29 16:49:00 Author: croissantbuncake Posts: 572 |
You got the most of what I would wish for! More of the music sounds! | 2009-12-29 18:53:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
I would also like a whistle (hope i wrote it correct) like when u see a hot girl u know. and the sound of doorbell. | 2009-12-30 00:16:00 Author: Smelling-Cowboy Posts: 668 |
Some from Portal would be great. "Are you still there?" "I see you..." "Why are you still standing there?" And an energy reactor sound, like a black hole, you know. And the old "FALCON PUNCH!!!" Just plainly, some voice bits. Even better if they were translated for different countries. | 2009-12-30 03:54:00 Author: chezhead Posts: 1063 |
More instruments...and while we are at it, add extra higher lower octaves too..working with only 4 full octaves is sometimes annoying. | 2009-12-30 04:31:00 Author: FuzzballFox Posts: 217 |
Windshield Wipe Keyboard Typing* Crowd Ramble* Phone Ring Camera Flash Steam* And subtle background noises are always welcome, like air conditioner, Traffic, ect. And I definitely want a volume option You may notice the next part of this list to be slightly biased, unfortunately. Artillery Drop Artillery Crack Crossfire* Gun Click Shell landing Shotgun Pump Minigun* | 2009-12-30 05:19:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
I'm never sure about what sounds I want because I don't quite think about them to often. I would want more looping sounds though. And you know what would be probably the best, most useful, greatest sound in all of LittleBigPlanet!!!!???? ... If you don't understand, I mean nothing. Seriously, if I could take a speaker with no sound on it, and set it to impact. I could finally make rain that doesn't make a shattering noise. And it could remove many other annoyances. | 2009-12-30 05:27:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
A wish list: Loud Hiss (like a steam valve or something) Rushing Flames (Flamethrower!) Guffaw Hollow Bang Music sounds. You know, just general ones. Gun reload Drilling Grunts of effort But in general, any new sound effects would be great. | 2009-12-30 07:32:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
We can do steam now there's a hissing sound... see colossus bleed ??? phone ringing was tough to fake but not impossible had to use??? musical instrument chime and a piston set to 'out'. That was a while ago, yeah I'd like old fashioned phone ring... you can always go Metal gear 'alert'. Shoot! the secretary in my ghostbusters level keyboard keys 'clacked'...what did I use? remember I tweaked it to two opposing sounds to get a 'click-clack' effect... but doable... I think with a little imagination most things are doable now. And while volume control does sound fine... I think I'm going to have to give some props to JWW. All LBP music has a volume slide... maybe we need to start utilizing that more. Anyway nice to see sound getting its' due... to many creators neglect it. I myself would still like to see a 'tweak' setting for sound-like those we have for the visual side of things... I mean, who hasn't wanted to shut-up gas and tweak its sound to invisible? So yeah, that I guess might encompass volume control--now were cooking! | 2009-12-30 08:23:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Great ideas! If you want the doppler effect, though, you could put the speaker on a piston that gets closer and farther away from the sackboy in a level. That should give you what you're lookin for. A volume control would be nice for getting a tubey thonk louder, but Comphermc, if you set the speaker on dark matter and place it far enough away from the main level area, the volume will be reduced! As for sounds I'd like; continuous burning fire sound! Match lighting and fiery hisses don't do it for me. | 2009-12-31 16:55:00 Author: Aselrahc Posts: 185 |

Keep in mind that a speed mag switch is a cool option to have on speakers as you can change the pitch. So you can shift the pitch just a bit as you fly your speaker by. Not a lot.. you might have to use a wider range on the speed switch so it only shifts a bit. Another fun effect I am doing in my current level is replicating speakers along a path, but slightly varying the pitch. If the speakers are close enough to not be out of range, you will get a nice speaker to speaker shift as well as pick up the slightly shifted tone. It can make the walk from a more open area become more closed in when you get to another area. Also going to another sound that is similar can help with that effect as well as pull in a new sound. | 2009-12-31 18:23:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Many. Seriously, just lots more sounds, I don't even really care what they are. This game is woefully short of them and the more there are the better. | 2009-12-31 18:45:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
SLS10, To make a flamethrower I use "rolling rock*" from environmental tweaked really high. | 2009-12-31 22:56:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Incinerator: I may have to try that... My suggestions: Toilet flush Kettle whistle (the whistle you hear when some kettle boil - actually easy to do, since it's already in-game in the sack-electricution animation.) .. and many more that I havent thought of yet . In fact, I'll just second rtm's request! | 2010-01-02 17:39:00 Author: croissantbuncake Posts: 572 |
This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s) Maybe it wouldn't have too many uses but it would be awesome | 2010-01-03 17:39:00 Author: napero7 Posts: 1653 |
I'd quite like some more mystic/fantasy sounds. For example the ones in the Shadow of the Collosus pack. | 2010-01-03 17:51:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |
