Material Pattern Orientation

Archive: 4 posts

The "Granite Wall" from the Pirates DLC is perfect for a section of my current level. Problem is I drew those sections with shapes that were rotated 90 degrees...so when I change material the blocks run vertical instead of horizontal. Anyone know a trick for changing a shapes uv directions? I've had some success combining shapes with different orientations...but I can't find a reliable rule controling which shapes orientation wins...oldest/largest, etc. It will be a pain to remodel this section...I may go the photo/sticker route...2009-12-23 05:53:00

As far as I know there's no way to change the orientation of the pattern once the object is created. Good luck with your re-doing or photo-stickering though. 2009-12-23 07:09:00

You cana always corner edit rather than merging. It might take longer, although prob not if you're having trouble already and at least it will be less frustrating...

I find the corner editor quite relaxing. Is that wrong?

The merging is complete! It appears that when merging shapes the surface uv of the more complicated shape wins. So if you have a square of material and want to flip it's uv merge it with a "much" more complicated shape. I created a donut and merged it into my wall by copying it so that the copy overlapped both wall and donut...then I just cut it off and cleaned up with the corner editor. I couldn't always use a simple donut, that's just an example...and one section of my wall was real pain...had to have just enough vertices to win but not so many that it would disallow the boolean (shape too complicated). I'm not sure if this is 100%...but my level now looks much better! 2009-12-23 16:35:00
