About the PotC levels...

Is it just me or do they seem a bit glitchy and unfinished? The gameplay was great, but the visuals were all pretty bland to me. Also, when I first entered a few of the levels, it took about a minute for all of the textures and the background to load. I'm not saying they're bad, it's just not at all what I'd expected. What I'm really trying to say is, I wasn't really blown away by anything in the pack. Nothing too spectacular. | 2009-12-23 04:30:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
... ... ... I completely disagree.... I found the visuals to be up to Mm's high standard... nothing seemed bland about them... I really, don't know what to say... the levels main purpose was to give ideas to the community on how to use water... and it consentrated on creative ways of using water and using the new objects/stickers/decorations well. I don't know why you wouldn't be blown away... well... maybe I was just glad to see some water used WELL... unlike most levels in the beta. oh well... everyone to their own opinion. | 2009-12-23 06:01:00 Author: elzbenz Posts: 86 |
probably your tv? everything looked great for me well the levels weren't as great as i expected but good nonetheless the point of the pack was pretty much water which is good but like elzbenz said everyone to their own opinion | 2009-12-23 06:23:00 Author: rseah Posts: 2701 |

I agree, they're great levels, but some things seemed like they were taken from the cool (bad) pages. Such as the rubber cannons, those look like something you'd find in a H4H level. But it does look fantastic in some ways. | 2009-12-23 07:32:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
I thought they were a bit short if anything at all. Other than that there wasn't much I found wrong with them; though I could be mistaken. | 2009-12-23 08:37:00 Author: Unknown User |
Well... the only thing that was really an eyesore was the rubber skeleton... man that thing looked ugly... I didn't mind the rubber cannons... I thought they looked really nice...! | 2009-12-23 08:42:00 Author: elzbenz Posts: 86 |
They were a tad easy. I aced all of them and just need a few friends for the 4x challenge till I've collected all items, but i love the pack! | 2009-12-23 08:58:00 Author: legory Posts: 39 |
They looked fine to me. The reason they are short, are probably because MM filled their thermometers up faster than they expected, lawl. | 2009-12-23 09:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
hyliaman... yeah... after all the point of the pack is to show of the new stickers/decorations/objects/materials and the larger your pallet of stickers/decorations/objects/materials is the higher than pesky thermometer rises! | 2009-12-23 09:38:00 Author: elzbenz Posts: 86 |
I really enjoyed these levels and it shows that MMm have improved as creators. | 2009-12-23 09:42:00 Author: robotiod Posts: 2662 |
I think they're great. You can tell Mm (as creators) have improved a lot over the past year. | 2009-12-23 13:04:00 Author: alexbull_uk Posts: 1287 |
The polish is outstanding. Fantastic use of materials, stickers and decorations. There is a fair bit of subtle, layered stickering and some great corner editor usage. Are you sure you were playing the right levels lol. They looked fine to me. The reason they are short, are probably because MM filled their thermometers up faster than they expected, lawl. Yeah I was thinking that. I might try to pimp myself out to MM as a thermoptimisation consultant, simply as an excuse to get my hands on their source... I mean, errr, for the greater good of the community | 2009-12-23 13:21:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
i noticed the confetti seems to add itself. 1 moments its clear then itl be there. Kinda like gta the background coming into focus as you get closer. i think they could of done this a little neater but its not worth knocking the game for that. but i thought id mention it | 2009-12-23 15:00:00 Author: dirts7970 Posts: 74 |
Anyone else find them a bit too easy? I got all the trophies in under 4 hours. | 2009-12-23 15:21:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
I thought they were perfect... a bit short perhaps... but perfect. The Krakken is really easy in Multiplayer... but they really stepped it up in level design. The towns layers and stickering were brilliant. I also never even thought of the layer glitch to right now! That's a compliment in its self... Interesting notes: Best audio ever: Officers attack and Officers celebrate! Can not wait to use those! Not happy about the plane you swim on was hoping there would be some way to manipulate that space--need to rethink some designs... Glass floats? Go figure. | 2009-12-23 15:35:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
My only nitpick is a tiny logic based thing. Namely how the smoke emits from the cannons in the kraken level (hold r1 and smoke will emit long after a cannonball has fired). Other than that I really like the new levels, I'm actually enjoying replaying them. One thing I did notice is the definite Disney influence going on in the art direction (biggest give-away being the skull-pirates), but it works better than I had anticipated. Though I did have the problem where textures took a while to load. Also a problem with the Sack Sparrow costume where his hair-pin glitched out for a while... | 2009-12-23 16:10:00 Author: croissantbuncake Posts: 572 |
I think the levels were pretty awesome, you can tell johnee was at MM while they were building the levels, they were very cinematic. Also I thought the end of The Cursed Bay, A Navy Frigate and The Kraken were epic! | 2009-12-23 16:29:00 Author: olit123 Posts: 1341 |

The only bad thing is the lack of in-level characters and the story. It was more of a showcase than anything else; with the MGS pack you had a definite goal; find the level spammer and stop him from making more. Here it was only mentioned that Jones was kidnapping little Sackpeople for his crew, but no mention of said crew(would've worked better than those skulls). We only had the Pirate, the Redcoats and the Kraken. It would be nice if Beckett popped his head round during the raid for the Frigate or during the Kraken battle. The use of water was epic, though. I can practically taste the saltwater. | 2009-12-23 17:34:00 Author: Grimdour Posts: 142 |
I found a couple parts where you could escape the level in Port Royal and the Frigate. Also when I was at the end of Cursed Bay with the giant wheel, the water level didn't lower and the wheel was just stuck floating on the water. There was no way to the finish without drowning. Lack of polish makes me sad. ): | 2009-12-24 00:43:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
Does anyone think Johnee made these levels? Or does he not do that? (All I know is that he works there.) The levels have actiony cut-scenes like his levels. And they do seem different from the standard Mm level. | 2009-12-24 06:22:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
MM didn't beta test their levels, and it showed. Like the kraken stuck in the cage at the last level, there's a piston on one of the tentacles that's visible that shouldn't be. I noticed that on my first playthrough. If they have an obvious problem like that, the levels could be rigged with bugs if you look hard enough :kz: I'll ask johnee about whether he helped or not, that'd be interesting | 2009-12-24 06:30:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
I think they are pretty lame to be honest. No story and ugly-looking..it feels as Mm has used thei sticker cutout tool to have all the new stickers cut out and then put it all together in a random mass :/ In my opinion the MGS levels/normal story levels were much more fun. I'm sure Mm has improved as creators, but I dont think they got to polish it up as they wanted to.. you know..move that obstacle there..change that bubble..fix that bug..spice up that place..make 2X/4X-challanges less lame..all that! | 2009-12-24 09:08:00 Author: Mnniska Posts: 531 |
I agree with MM not beta testing the levels (my other thread under this category is quite the proof), but they used the new materials in the best way; the polishing and the materials use and positioning is awesome - lastly, of course the levels are short, there are lots of stickers and many, many different materials... | 2009-12-24 10:45:00 Author: Shadowheaven Posts: 378 |
I know what you mean by "glitchy and unfinished" my friend did the X4 with 3 people! | 2009-12-24 12:03:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |
I don't know about you, but I think Mm has just played lots of Community levels. They use sticker for shades and grime, just like monkeyboys or mrsupercomputer. Plus they use many of the tricks found by the community. But yes, the rubber cannons and the skeleton look awful. Still beats the History Pack though... | 2009-12-28 20:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
Until I play them thoroughly and explore every detail of the levels, I will just say that they're probably better than anything I will ever make | 2009-12-28 21:04:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
I know what you mean by "glitchy and unfinished" my friend did the X4 with 3 people! Me and my friend did it with two people and three controllers Also, you can skip a sticker switch somewhere with some good platforming. | 2009-12-28 23:57:00 Author: ZramuliZ Posts: 55 |
they were fine, but i don't understand why more story levels can be added, or more levels with water or the MGS pack be releaced by MM themselves, as they know how to make levels | 2010-01-07 14:51:00 Author: jakew161 Posts: 29 |
I had a blast playing them, loved the visuals. Altho the Kraken was abit lackluster. Fighting only the tentacles just didnt do it :/ | 2010-01-13 17:48:00 Author: Maddox991 Posts: 3 |
