How to make a waterfall using water

Archive: 19 posts

If you have water you can make a waterfall using proper water.
To do that connect a longish block (depending on how wide your waterfall should be) and connect it via a piston to a block of darkmatter above it.
Place it just above the water and set the piston's speed setting to 0.1. If you press play you should notice the splash effect
Now hide the whole thing behind a wall add some rain, water and rolling rock sound effect and there is your waterfall.

There some limitations:
-You can't make a very high waterfall
-It always affects all three layers
-You can hear the piston.

I noticed someone use a real water for rain too, something similar to your method I'd say but with less splashing.

I'll definitely give this a go.

I'll check it out, I got the water pack & it's gr8 but if you want water in a lvl you can't just have a puddle or a small pool, all materials either float or sink (apart from dark matter which can't move), u can't make something underneath the water have no water inside (such as a submarine), you can't use varios gameplay kits such as paintinator & you can't make proper waves. At least some1 found out how to make a water fall well done 8) (don't be put off by coments, it's still a great feature)2009-12-24 19:10:00

Yeah, I noticed I could make a waterfall using this method when I dropped a huge square piece of material in water. And as it fell into, and then begun to go back up, it created that waterfall effect. Which gave me the idea ooooohhh a waterfall. I got the waterfall, and somehow there was this fountain next to it. I have not been able to replicate the fountain effect though. Maybe it is the raining water... guess ill check it out.2009-12-28 08:23:00

You can't hear pistons if they're toggled not to be visible.

Sorry to bump this but I just discovered the tutorial section, so could a kind mod move it there?

The showcase is now copyable for the super lazy, by the way. Or use it as the start of your own level, just remember to get rid of the trees as they take up 80% of the thermometer.

I'll have to give this a try... a waterfall would be perfect for my level, but I wasn't going to implement it with a simple panel of flipper'd glass.

But thinking of how the glass can interact with real water to create splashes, maybe this will look real good.
