After 1000 of photo's sorted I got about 300 good photo's left (water/snow/wind/no tripod/lack of skill )
of those 300 there are around 40 amazing shots, if I can say that about my own work.

here's another one of them:

made this at Dec 20, 2009, 9:32:39 AM
One of the last shots of the day.

Hey man, I was looking through your deviantart a few weeks ago, very impressive stuff. But these are just incredible. The cats are awesome, and the empty streets are giving off some haunted vibes.

I might even paint something using your pics as reference or inspiration to say the least.

I still use an old canon 350d,
lenses are another story.
canon 100mm 2.4 usm with macro option. (portrait and macro lens)
canon 50mm 1.2 usm. (portrait/object lens, very lightsensitive)
random lens 22-56 2.4. (Simple lens I dont mind using when its snowing, raining etc).
also:
Canon ringlite (good for portraits and macro (macro means enlarging very small objects/creatures).

talking about macro/creatures:

lol yup 8 cats,
to make a long story short,
few years ago, mom moved out to live with her new friend, younger brother moved out to live with gf.
Mom moved back with her 4 cats, bro moved back with his 2 cats, I got two cats myself.
Also, my mother has two small dogs as well, luckily all the cats arent bothered by the two dogs.

Most of my photos can be found here:

Editing of the photo's is against copyright law though,
But if you have any requests I can see what I can do.

- As the sun sets -

As Dordrecht (city in the Netherlands) is an Island thats mostly if not whole under sea level, we need these dikes/Embankments to protect us from the immense strength of the sea.
On the outskirts of Dordrecht we have all these small roads over and across the dikes creating a wonderfull farm landscape filled with small streams, forests and lakes.
Most of the small roads are fenced off so all the sheeps, horses and cows dont wander off.

I woke up late that day and phoned a friend of mine, telling him it is a beautifull day to drive over the dikes and see if there is anything noteworthy.
The sun was allready beginning to set and that resulted in a giant bob ross painting in the sky filled with various colors of blue and white.
(I was freezing my hands off, but it was worth it)

We stopped near a fence where some sheep where looking at me like.. whats that furryless thing doing with that black flashy thing?

This was one of the shots,
I thanked the sheeps and gave a few of the sheep some freshly plucked grass that was just out of reach for them.

As I have taken yesterday and today off from lbp, I went out with friends to "Puma" a club in Utrecht the Netherlands,
One of my friends had to spin his vinyl and blew away the roof.
Today we went out for some nice food and enjoyed the sunshine, short skirts and lonely islands booming out of the speakers.

As my friends are now occupied with soccer on tv for the next two hours ill edit and upload some photo's.
Here's the first one:

Lovely photos. Makes me miss having a dog around, argh, must get small lovable creature to lighten things up around here! Since there's so many cats around what do you think of cats? I have always wondered what they are like, I know there was a cat in my house before I was born but I never got to meet it and pretty much dogs were all that came after. I hear although it had a habit for tearing furniture up so maybe that's why no cats have since appeared. I always see this one cat wandering about at night, I think they look like interesting creatures, kind of strange, mysterious almost.2010-04-19 17:36:00

Weel,
I got 8 cats roaming the house and streets around it.
there are pro's and cons about both dogs and cats.
In my life me/my parents have had many dogs and cats, some nicer some not so nice.
(also had bunnies and various rodents/semi exotic insects, but lets not go there )

There is a dutch saying "Dogs have masters, Cats have Slaves".
And as the years passed I am starting to think that it might be true.
Dogs will go worried and whining when there is nobody around, especially when the "master" of the house leaves the room.
Cats dont really give a rats behind if you are there or not, they are less reliant on their human companions.
If you leave the door open, they can find birds, rodents and even insects to eat, while dogs have a harder time finding food out in the streets especially if they never learned to go trough the garbage cans looking for food.

Anyways, a cat decides when it will spend attention with you, while you decide when to spend time with the dog.
dogs will hold their peepee and doodoo untill you walk them (if raised propperly) while cats will urinate and poo anywhere if you dont clean their kittylitterbin.

male cats (even castrated ones) will have the tendency to male-spray around the house *looks at ugly stain on wall next to pc cabinet*
and all cats have the urge to put their nails into anything wood of viber like cabinets, wooden walls, couches and curtains..
you can have the nails of your cats removed.. but thats in my humble opionion just animal abuse.
A friend of mine actually has a animal washing shop and she refuses to clean up/wash nail-less cats as they are actually more agressive and more random in their way of attacking. (she once had a cat hanging from her nose when she tried to wash it).
So you have to either acknoledge the fact cats will rip up your furniture.. or just dont have them.
(young kittens/dogs will often tear up cables.. so besides making sure they cant get to the cables and either destroying/short circuit your tv and in the worst case killing themselves in the progress you should be prepared to get some cables replaced every once in a while when the youngers are growing up)

that said, both dogs and cats will try to comfort you when you are sad, one of my oldest cats (22) would always find a way to cheer me up when I was sad.

You have to walk the dog at least 3 times a day.. even when its pouring outside.
your cat can do that without you.

and I could go on for ages lol.
Personal experience from the last month:

Dogs:
Eat cats poo, eats friggin anything on the floor inside and outside your home.. preferable licking your face after that.
Like to roll in filth, especially guts from dead animals.
No matter how much training we gave them.. they keep barking when someone is walking by.
Always needs to be close to the "master" of the home.
they poo everywhere outside.. even in your backyard when given the chance.
Can go insane when in severe pain, atm one of our dogs has a ringworm in her left leg that will be removed tomorrow.. shes totally going insane and keeps walking in circles.. while one of our cats was like.. pff ringworm.. who cares, it either kills me or it doesnt.
Dogs, when trained will obey unless there is something to eat

Cats:
Will come whining when they need food or want to go outside. (kittydoor is helpfull)
Burry their poo in the backyard, you wont step in it..
Brings back half eaten birds/mice/other small rodents and give them to you to show their loyalty.
(Often had to end the life of them as there was no saving the little critters.. breaks my heart every time)
Will hide their pain, so sometimes you wont notice something is wrong.
(One of our cats named Chibi actually broke one of her ribs and its still misplaced but we only found out 2 years after she got the injury, Docters stated that she was lucky though as it didnt damage any organs/veins)
Cats dont really listen well even when trained.

and I could go on for ages lol.
but this is just what I experienced over the years,
all cats and dogs are different..

wait.. i wanted to write something short..
why am i still writing..
Luos.. stop!
okay!

Thank you so much for the insight! The dutch saying does seem true when you put the facts next to each other like that. I would love to have a cat and a dog, they seem to contrast each other and would make an interesting combo I think. The thought of having to finish off a small half eaten creature is nasty though! I am bad enough when it comes to insects feeling guilty when I take one of them out lol2010-04-19 19:25:00

same here,
I tend to go quiet the rest of the day when I have to get out the shovel and tink off the poor creatures head.
Luckily it hasnt happened that often the last few years.

My youngest cat and the two dogs are close friends, sleeping and playing together..
so if you get one of each, they tend to grow close.
One of my ex-naburs had a giant dobberman that was close friends with a tiny cat she grew up with.
very cool.

oh yea.. uploading photo's...
"your 1TB drive is full, please choose another drive"
means I now have to go trough 1TB of photo's and crap to clean it up..

If i may ask, how long have you been into photography? I've always wanted to recreational photography but atm all I have is a 5 year old digital camera, can't really do much with it other than take a simple photo, oh well.

Its the entrance to the zoo, there is this huge parasol above it, and in the middle a hole.
I looked at it and noticed the abstract curved hallway.
People where rofl when I was lying on the floor to take the shot.
was worth it though.

Well my digital camera is getting old as well,
its a 350D, so its almost getting close to becoming a fossil lol.

Ive been into photography ever since I baught my camera for level-design purposes.. This way I was able to make my own materials easier.
After that ive just been shooting whenever I felt like it, also read some books and studied other peoples photo's.
Did start a photography-based university, but had to drop out due to my arms being in poor condition.

The main things you just need is passion for photography, preferable art as well and understand what objectives are used when.
Most of my shots are made with a 100mm macro lens, as it really brings out the point of interest and blurring anything else.

heres a shot of my camera

wow i was going to ask what your camera look liked! That looks like a great one, it takes high quality photos too. What mega pixel is it?
Your photos are amazing by the way

only 8 megapixel, but then again.. the more megapixels.. the faster your drive is full.
nowadays there are 28+ megapixel camera's.. 4 pics would mean 100mb.

Its more about sharpness/lighting/contrast/compostion than megapixel though.
(though it helps a lot for blowing up a photo into poster size)

Thanks Fender

More photo's to come later today.

That's the entrance! I thought it was strange that there didn't seem to be any space for a lightbulb. Sorry to hear about your uni course, at least it hasn't stopped you from still taking great photo's.

I have a passion for photography and art I just don't have the money for a decent camera. I've taken thousands of photo's with my Cannon Powershot A400 and it's 3.2 megapixel goodness though. Mostly at car shows, though it's narrow lense (5.9-13.2mm) is a right pain in the ***, I have to wait 10min or so just for people to get out my shot since I have to stand so far back

I love your picture of those jellyfish too, it would make a great wallpaper.

Snappy!

I have to wait 10min or so just for people to get out my shot since I have to stand so far backhttp://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/../images/smilies/1/grrr.gif

I have this knack with creatures, they tend to come towards me.
Even if there is a housefly panically flying trough my house..
with some patience I can get it to land on my hand and safely return it into the open world.
When I was at the Zoo, we went past the Giraffe-building where they roam outside.

One was looking into the building about 20 meters away from me and I said out loud..
Please come.. please come..
And the caretaker was like "haha, never gonna work m8".
All of a sudden the giraffe looks at me and starts to slowely walk towards me.
So I said.. come closer please.. I want to take a photo.
Caretaker was like wtfbbq when the giraffe now was only 2 meters away from me..
It raised his head to get up to the level of the bridge I was standing on....
Caretaker was like wtfbbqomgroflsauce how the hell.
And at that moment..
some ffin annoying kids high on sugardope and potato chips came by screaming on the top of their lungs "GIRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFFFE!!!!! AAAARGH!!! TEACHER!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHK!!!! GIRAAAFFEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
Just before I could capture the gracefull face of the kind giraffe that was less than a meter from my camera...

I really hope those kids didnt have accidents that day as I probably cursed more on them in my mind than ive ever done.

Wow less than a meter, I'm jealous, I always wanted to see a giraffe in the flesh. As for those kids, well i'm lost for words. If it were me I would have been so temped to just stick out my leg and trip the kid. I've had a similar experience yet very different. A fair few years back I started making a card house, just to have go. Turns out I have a natural skill for stacking cards, I ended up using the whole deck, so I went and got another one, it ended over half a meter tall and even wider. When I had used all the cards I quickly ran to get my camera, I got back just in time to see that my dad had turned on the fan and saw it all come crashing down. Note quite as interesting as yours but just as irritating.2010-04-29 13:24:00

Well, Id go mental if that happened to me lol.
I did tell the kids to be quiet, as creatures come closer easier that way.
some listened, others where still like.. TEACHERRRR WHERES TEH LION!!!

Heres a face only a mother could love:

Do you still take photographs often?
Not at the moment, spend almost all summer hanging with friends or playing lbp.
I kinda regret it though, I have seen a lot of beautifull things I havent seen before..
And did not have my camera with me to capture what I saw.

I should shoot more, I havent done so in a long time.

Wow, you deserve the position as lead designer in some sort of video game company, some of those pictures are just amazing. The first winter-themed seem so magical and lost it is almost not possible. It is as if the atmosphere pops out of the screen, does some sweet dance moves and hops back into the screen again.

Hey man! You have an eye for composition Im a photographer myself, but I steer more in the direction of manipulative conceptual photography with a smidgen of cinematical aspects.

Do you use any photo editers to edit colour, tone, contrast, clarity etc?

if u want to use a program that deals with that stuff really well, I suggest that you have a look at adobe lightroom.

Btw what camera do you use? a DSLR?
