Ghost of Sparta - ??? - Chapter Three

I've had a big modern warfare break but I'm going to start on the project again, if you have any suggestions or questions feel free to post a reply. First picture is here, the colours changed a bit but this should give you an idea

Suggestions:

1) Don't just take a story directly out of actual Greek Mythos or the God of War series - give us something fresh.

2) Speaking of "fresh" content - it would be nice if you could incorporate something from the new PotC level pack coming out on Tuesday. Even if it's not water (which will probably be in 95% of the levels published over the next 2 months ), something from it would be nice. A piece of music, one of the very nice new materials as a "main" material ... just something from it to help make sure it feels fresh.

3) Keep doing an awesome job.

I really enjoyed your GOS levels, they were very funny, with great visuals and effects. I think it can be a good idea to add some kind of weapon, like in Vagrant Hero levels, by GEK83. Or some epic parts: i loved the Cerberus Fight, but it was quite simple. Maybe something like a hundred soldiers versus you will be a good idea :eek: .
Your style is very cool and unique, i'm sure that you'll be able to find the best ideas

Oh, another - this time more specific - suggestion ...

... don't give us a specific, finite ending. We haven't really been given a consistent story yet in the series, so such an ending would feel very fake. If it's already set up to be an "epic" ending, add some content at the end that has us beginning another adventure, so it doesn't feel like an ending without a beginning.

I support the Hundred Soldier thing.

My tip would be to just make these soldiers harmless in a way. Have most of them be harmless (brain and legs only) and get about 2-5 of them to be weighted like the Mini-sumo on the Islands. this way you have most of them to spam and act as moving point bubbles and the giant ones be the real threats.

Also, borrowing from the Water idea, raise a temple from the sea. Or have a boss battle where the boss itself is the level. Not necessarily fight from the innards; maybe an overgrown octopus that grew out of a labyrinth, or a carnivorous, sentient forest.

As for endings, do a cliffhanger. As in when you're on the final stretch, have the ground below you crumble and you end up in Hades. Again. You may need a fake scoreboard.

Thanks for the comments, i've got some ideas planned with the new potc pack so you can expect something whole new. Also about the story, i'm not going to end the series here... They don't have one continuing story so I can make as many as possible with different styles/places, but maybe one day they'll all fit together I've got the first parts done, im not telling where the level sets or who are gonna be in it but heres small hint to keep you guys "Warm".2009-12-20 17:27:00

First picture added! I'll be using the potc pack but I won't overuse it since every level in the next month will have all the items in it.. I'll try to put in water if I can but I'm not sure if it suits the theme.

Then please don't put water in it!

I highly recommend you put something in from the potc pack - but water of all things is going to be the most incredibly over-used, over-hyped content that everyone will be putting where it doesn't belong.

And especially - if it doesn't fit your theme - don't use it. Don't turn your level into part of the barrage of pointless, inappropriate uses of water that is inevitably incoming. There's tons of other stuff in the pack besides water ... which it feels like everyone is forgetting.

... or, alternatively, you could always put the water level lower than anyone goes in the level and try to color it like lava, so that it's really just a background/foreground decoration. I honestly don't know how that will look, however.

@incinerator22, I might add wings with a real 2d section where you go up and you can choose to go left and right but I think you mean the wings of Icarus don't you? Anyway, when I was done with the first one I was thinking about making a Hades level, an underwater Poseidon level and a level on Olympus. I've made the Hades one but and I waited with making the Poseidon level until we had real water.. now that its out I really wanna make the level but since i've been working on this one lately I'd better wait a little longer. I'll ofcourse try to finish this one as fast as possible to make the other one, can either be good or bad ;2009-12-24 09:22:00

If it doesn't fit in the level, avoid water. Like in previous comments already said, it just distracts from the visuals if it doesn't really has a purpose.

I will be making an entire level in the ocean so for me it's very convenient but for this saga i'd use water only on a very low level.

1 thing would be to create a small pond with some statues in there that you need to bring up as a puzzle.

I keep getting distracted from working on this project, life has been pretty busy lately and I currently don't have great idea's for the level... So im not sure if i'll finish this project, there are so many good levels out there and there are awesome levels being made each week so whats the whole point in making this level if I don't have good ideas for it..
