Snatching of the Secret Plans!

Snatching of the Secret Plans!SLS10
This level was co-created by bonner123 and I for the LBPC Online Create competition. It is the first effort by two members of Great Talon working together.

Run through the worn-down mountainside to get your cottony hands on those heavily-guarded Secret Plans! The reward is all the sweeter once you escape - but will you be able to avoid what lies at the end?

bonner123 is an interesting guy to work with. We have different styles, and both shine through in this level - from my craggy landscapes and unique puzzles to his curvy architecture and hilarious dialogue (most of it was by him!). So, rate kindly and give us things we can improve on - all criticism is welcomed.

I'll be honest with you both... this was great. The visuals were very good and the dialogue was superb. One thing went wrong however...

I played most of this level with Incinerator22 but we ran into a problem. When we got to the Boss that was to "uber pwns us!!!1!11!" the little checkpoint elevator would stay up. Now at first it was working, we would walk out of the way and be able to get the paintinator. Then, one time, the elevator just got stuck. This left us unable to retrieve the paintinator and therefore unable to defeat the boss and complete the level.

Maybe using some glass along the sides to make it run more smoothly? Anyways, besides this setback, the level was awesome. I gave it a solid 5 stars and heart.

Oh and another thing; the checkpoints. This is personal taste but there were different kinds of checkpoints everywhere. This is a very very very minor thing but I feel strange when I have to work with different amount of lives at every checkpoint. Then again, maybe this keeps things fresh and exciting. C

Cheers

I had the same problem as fancypants, the elevator got stuck below, so I couldn't finish.

... Also, the "Metal Gear" jingle when you find the gun during the first boss should be one shot, because it's weird to have it play when you die and need to get another one.

So far I am loving this level. I have also been checking out some of your others. Loving it all.
But yeah I just ran into a different problem. Around the time you drop down and get the paintinator on carts. Somehow I missed the Checkpoint before hand, and well all I can say is... I have to restart the level to finish it.

I'll add to this post after I finish.

How could you have possibly missed the checkpoint in the elevator? It's practically the whole elevator!

...Not criticizing your skill, mind you. It just seems like a really weird gameplay thing to me.

I played this level twice now, to take in everything I could, and I can honestly say it rocks.
One problem is I just don't get the random speech bubbles.
I liek wafflez? What? Is it the dissolve that I just shot at that said that? :kz:

The rest of the level was fine.
5 stars and a heart
A creator heart for both of you too for I think you both have made plenty of awesome levels. Please start to do something in order to get more plays as it is way too good to miss out on.

Haha. That was the problem. I didn't go in the elevator. My sack person fell through the floor next to the elevator, therefore I was unable to use the elevator. Maybe it was just a hiccup in the game.
When I died though, it sent me to a checkpoint before it and I couldn't get back in and it was really dark.

I'll see if I can try and recreate it and take a screenshot.

The random speech bubbles were intended to confuse and scare the player.2009-12-21 00:04:00

Some things I notice as I go through the level. Not sure if you left these GLT's visible on purpose with the whole visible switch look or by mistake. Ignore the one's with the * if it was on purpose.:
*On the elevator after the 2x part there is a visible GLT
-The camera before the elevator is really towards the 2x part and I was kind of unsure where I had to go since I couldn't see to the left.
*There's another GLT visible on the part after the "wobbling" platforms (before the part with the enemies shooting pink plasma balls).
*After killing those enemies, there's another GLT next to the checkpoint.
-The next jetpack felt like the tether was a little short.
-On the boss battle, I think you should put one of those light switches from the MGS pack so it can tell when you get out of the layer the checkpoint is in and the paintanator comes down. That would make the boss battle a lot easier and better without any unnecessary deaths.

I really liked this level, the material choice was great as was the great platforming. I personally like the random speech bubbles, they made me LOL . 5 stars! This is one of the best combinations I could have ever imagined, bonner123 and SLS10. I hope you guys keep creating together. This online create competition is going to be great if this keeps happening!

Ok wow, I played this level tonight and loved it!

You guys pulled off an interesting, fun, and original level. I think the difficulty level is also perfect. I love it when I play a level and I can't guess what's coming before me. This is exactly what you guys achieved and with good humor on top of it all.
I thank you both for making us play such quality level and I can't wait for your futur collaboration. Don't rush, just make it equally good at least.

Nobody's making you play anything.

And it's good to see that our effort is being appreciated. I've attracted negative attention and that causes someone (he knows who he is) to one-star my levels whenever they come out.

Rants aside, yes, me and bonner were planning some kind of a sequel - though it may make less sense than this one does.

This level was so great! I was looking for it in the "Cool Levels" thread because I had assumed it would be there by now, but to my surprise it was falling back the pages of the "Level Showcase!" It's kind of sad This level was soo good!

I loved the look of the level, similar to mine that I'm working on (but will probably never finish), was very nice. I enjoyed the visible logic and all of the simple-yet-perfect platforming. A very nice collaboration project and I believe it could win any contest it entered. I would really like to see another project by you two!

This level should totally be in COOL LEVELS! I can't believe that it's so far hidden. Played it a while ago and been trying to comment here since!

PROS!
+The amount of polish on this level is ridiculous. It is VERY well made.
+The design of the level is also VERY clever. Looking good while playing great.
+The style was very nice, Haven't seen something like it in a while. (Or at all!)
+The humor was nice! With the occasional "DURF!" and the segment with the "long chasm" ( I actually fell for it.)
+I liked all the hidden secret bubbles! Very nice placement.
+The pacing was nice, never too slow and not so fast that the level ended in a minute.
+The variety of game play is very cool.
+All in All a great level!

CONS....
-NOTHING! The level was very VERY good. No cons that I saw.
