Christmas Special!

ConfusedCartman
The King of LBPC
Interview conducted by MrsSpookyBuz (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?u=3896)

'Tis the season to be jolly, and where better for the festive Spotlight to shine than on Mr LBPC himself, ConfusedCartman. Oh yes, we tied him down in a decorated room full of ramps and rocket cheetahs, and then attempted to extract all the important bits of his brain! Does he find time to play LBP? Does he find time to actually SLEEP? Read on to find out...

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and guys, it's ConfusedCartman!

The Low-Down

What video games did you enjoy playing before LBP was released?
Oh, where do I begin? I play so many games that it's hard to pick just a few - in general, if a game is good, I've played it at some point. Let me just go through my collection as of today and name off some of my favorites - some of them didn't release until after LBP, but this will give you guys a good idea of what my gaming tastes are:

Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed 2
Bioshock
Burnout Paradise
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Crackdown
Dead Rising
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Fable 2
Grand Theft Auto IV
Half Life 2
Half Life 2: Episode 1
Half Life 2: Episode 2
Halo 3
Halo 3: ODST
inFamous
Left for Dead 2
Mirror's Edge
Portal
Prototype
Skate
Team Fortress 2
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

It's a long list, and it will just get longer with games like Alan Wake, Just Cause 2, and Alpha Protocol coming around early next year. I'm looking forward to that.

What was the first full level you ever built? And what was it like?
Hmm, full level? I tend to just jump into an empty level and build whatever comes to mind, so you'll see a lot of weird ideas and concepts on my Planet and not much in the way of actual levels. I'd say the first thing I was really proud of was the LittleBigPlanet Logo Photobooth. For those of you that haven't played it, it's essentially a level designed to show off a true-to-reality copy of this logo (http://images.wikia.com/littlebigplanet/images/d/d4/LittleBigPlanetLogo.png) that I worked for hours on. It takes up tons of thermo and it's not really practical in any way, but it looks great so I had to do something with it. In the level, you get to pose as the Sackboy in that logo (perched on top of the tree) and have your photo taken. Beforehand, you can pick from a large selection of background colors or you can just use The Gardens as your background. It was mainly a way to test my early logic skills and show off that logo in the process, but it was the first level that I was proud of, so there you go.

What levels have you published, or been involved with?
Other than the Logic Pack? Mostly tech demos and other "messings about". The only "real" level I have up is the Metal Gear Solid VR Challenge, and that was much too short for my tastes. I've always wanted to go back and make another version, but I just don't have the time anymore.

Which of these is your own favourite? And why?
Absolutely the Logic Pack. We all poured so much work into it and it's been received so wonderfully that it is definitely something I'll remember being a part of for my entire life.

What?s your pet hate in LBP?
The real issue right now is the moderation policies, which need revising as soon as possible. I can't stand that people are losing their levels because of some kids who figured out how to play the system, and it's really sad to know that there are people out there who are so jealous of the success of others that they're willing to go to such lengths. The only part about all of this that makes me laugh is the fact that after they work so hard to get a level pulled down, they get no recognition for it whatsoever and the person they hurt gets even more attention from his fellow Creators. It's as if they're trying to knock someone down but instead they're just helping spread their name around.

If you worked for Media Molecule, what tool/object/material would you have liked to see developed?
I'm going to name two: gravity effects and wind effects. If I had to pick one to come first, I'd say wind because it would be less of a novelty. There's a lot of Creative potential in it, but it's not something that I think will be overused.

About LBPCentral

LBPC: the best LBP fan site on the internet? Your thoughts?
Are you asking me if I think LBPCentral is the best LBP fan site on the internet, or are you stating your opinion? (Ed: Both! ) Regardless, I'll answer as if it were a question: I think it is. I know it's hard to take my opinion seriously since I run the site, but if I were not running the site I would probably visit LBPCentral more than any other LBP fansite due to the sheer volume and variety of content. As a Creator, there's an endless number of tutorials and people willing to help and even leave feedback on your levels - as a Player, there's tons upon tons of levels to browse and play, and you can get a feel for the quality of the level before you decide to load it up and play it for yourself. Plus, our ties with Mm combined with all the content we put out ourselves (the Community Spotlight, the contests and competitions we hold, the Logic Pack, not to mention this wonderful Creator Spotlight that you work so hard on) and the fantastic community that we have to offer makes LBPCental a very compelling place for a Happy Gadder to spend his or her time.

Has LBPC developed over time as you'd imagined, or has it turned into something different than was originally planned?
I definitely don't have a plan. I think only far enough ahead to ensure that we're ahead of the curve when it comes to features and content - I don't think, with a community as dynamic and unpredictable as LittleBigPlanet's, that a long-term plan would ever play out the way I'd expect it to. Even with my ties to Mm, there's a multitude of things I don't know and cannot plan for, so I instead work to ensure that everyone is enjoying themselves on LBPCentral as much as possible.

Speculation and rumours appear quite often in threads. It can be fun to discuss what might or might not happen with various aspects of the game, but how do you differentiate between healthy debate and unfounded rumours?
Well, even if a rumor (excuse the spelling - I'm American!) is false, it's still generally fun to discuss and speculate what might be coming in the future. Plus, it gives Mm a good idea of what the community is into and what they're not excited about, so even if they don't have something in the pipeline similar to a rumor that's being discussed, that doesn't mean the conversation about the rumor wouldn't provide them with some good decision-making information. That's why forums are so important to Mm - they're an easy, documented way for them to read over what the community is excited about, and plan for future content accordingly.

LBPC has a great relationship with Media Molecule - it must be a good feeling?
Oh absolutely. I know how much everyone gushes about how great Mm is, but that's because it's true! They're a wonderful group of people and I'm very thankful to have developed close ties with them. Having their support has helped in a variety of ways, some you know about and some I can't talk about yet, and going forward I think things are just going to get better.

Does looking after us rabble cause you any sleepless nights?!!
No way, I sleep like a baby!

In reality, there are some times when I have something on my mind and I can't go to sleep until I figure out some sort of solution. That's my biggest pet peeve: leaving something unfinished or unfixed. I'd prefer to work until 3 in the morning finishing something up than to leave it halfway done and come back to it in the morning. It just doesn't gel with me.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/images/creator_spotlight/ConfusedCartman/cc3.jpg
Even Better Than the Real Thing? It's ConfusedCartman. It's a VR Challenge. And it's darn good!

Digging Deeper

With all that might be going on in your 'real' life, and with all the countless hours you spend developing LBPC, do you get much time to actually play LBP?
In all honesty, no, I don't. I play it enough to keep up on things, and I make a point to play (almost) all of the Spotlighted levels each episode as well. I think if you asked the Mm developers the same question they'd have a similar answer: when you make something your job, it no longer exists as a source of leisure. If I need to relax I tend to play something unrelated to LittleBigPlanet.

The Logic Pack has been a huge success. How was the idea conceived, and how did you find the experience of collaborating?
Well, way back when LittleBigPlanet first released, I created a rudimentary form of the Logic Pack. It had way less logic and it wasn't designed with any sort of standard. It eventually got hit with the "failed to load level" bug, so I gave up on it and moved on. Over this past summer, I was working on going to sleep (most of my ideas come to me when I'm trying to actually get some rest) when it hit me: why don't I assemble a team and produce something like this officially? We had the position in the community and the connection with Mm, so it seemed to me that we were poised in the best position to produce something above and beyond what people were accustomed to when it comes to community-developed LittleBigPlanet levels. I got in touch with rtm223 and talked to him about my plans, and he was equally excited about the idea and wanted to help. We spent a long time working on logic ideas and passing concepts back and forth, and it quickly grew from a three-level logic "display case" to a monumental project. I initially asked a number of people, some of whom denied the offer due to real-life responsibilities or other things, but CCubbage was all for it, so we added him to the team. We also brought on comphermc (we needed a guy who was good with visuals) but we soon found that he was much more skilled in logic than I could have anticipated, so we kept him working (mostly) on that side of things. As things continued, we realized we needed a visuals guy, so we got in touch with mrsupercomputer. At first he built just the facades at the start of each level, but we quickly realized that we needed a consistent level of quality across everything, so we got him deeply involved in the project as well.

Collaboration was fun. I initially had plans to organize different aspects of the planning process into different threads to try to keep things more organized, but we all eventually migrated over to one thread. We accumulated a large number of posts keeping each other updated on changes, updates, new additions, etc. It was a long, long process but we somehow managed to keep everything synchronized. Overall, it was a fantastic experience working with these guys, and I couldn't have asked for a better team.

If you did have more time to create, what would ConfusedCartman's portfolio of levels include?
I've always wanted to do a wooden roller coaster, but one that actually works through gravity and physics alone. It might not work, but the idea has always struck me as interesting. If I ever have time I might just go and try it.

Wherever the future of LBP takes us, will LBPC still be around?
If I'm still around and LBP is still around, then LBPCentral will still be around. To be honest, I really want to work for Mm in some form once I graduate High School here in another year and a half or so, and if that pans out, then I will pass control of LBPCentral over to someone I trust. I'm still at a loss for how I'm going to convince them - they already have two community managers, why would they need a third? - but I have the support of the people I've asked so far and even Spaff says he'll put in a good word if a spot ever opens up. I've heavily considered "pulling a johnee" and just trying to get a bunch of people who like the idea to help me convince Mm to hire me, but I think that will be a last-ditch attempt. I don't really like the idea of trying to pressure Mm into seeing my value as an employee, but I want the job so badly that if all else fails, I'll try it.

And finally, thanks for being a great sport and answering these questions, but if there was one question you could ask yourself, what would it be? And what would be the answer?!!
One question I could ask myself? I know everything about myself, so I have no questions for me. Are there things you know I know about me that me doesn't know about me? Maybe me has some questions for I - it's entirely possible that me doesn't have all the info about I if I don't have all the info about me. Maybe me should write a book? Then I would know more about me without having to actually talk to me, saving I and me the trouble of getting into a (rather insane) discussion over the differences between I and me and why me and I aren't aware of certain things about myself.

Oh, by the way, try to keep it down - me is sleeping and I don't want to wake me up. Me is a grouch to I when he hasn't gotten my rest!

--------------------

Conclusions

If you can try to imagine how much work ConfusedCartman puts in to maintaining and developing this site, in reality you can probably at least double it. The man is dedicated, professional, enthusiastic and determined. But you don't have to take my word for it - there's a whole bunch of people who can tell you better than I ever could...

As you know, ConfusedCartman usually posts up the Spotlights, but we could hardly ask him to post up his own, could we? So, thanks so much to mrsupercomputer for stepping in and doing a brilliant job!

Keeping things secret from ConfusedCartman's all-seeing eyes is not easy! So, in addition to the Spotlight, and unbeknown to CC, some messages have been collected and displayed below.

-------------------------

from RockSauron

"CC is, without a doubt, the single reason LBPC is as big as it is. When he signed up, LBPC had technically existed for 13 months - but CC was the 118 member to join. He managed to become an admin in three weeks, and by the time I registered, we had three times as many users then we did a month ago.

While CC's Comic Con playthrough did basically make this site, it's more the fact that, for over a year, he has worked tirelessly to run this site, despite still being in high school. CC just always inspired me as some sort of genius and/or lunatic for running this site.

While LBPC has changed so much over CC's reign, the one thing that is definite is CC tirelessly dedicating so much time to this site. It truly is remarkable, and makes you question his sanity. ^-^"

-------------------------

from comphermc

"CC doesn't always seem like the nicest guy in the world, but he truly lives his life for the betterment of this site. He's wakes up early and stays up late to ensure that everyone-on-the-site's needs are met to the best of his ability. He's truly a great guy, who deeply cares for the community, and I know that he's going to do big things with his life. Don't let him fool you, though - he's really just like everyone else...

Here's a little conversation between he, mrsupercomputer, and I when he was showing us the modding ropes (at least as far as I can remember):

(CC hadn't responded for a while)

[...]

comphermc - Where's our tyrannical leader?
mrsupercomputer - I don't know! Let's get on with this...
ConfusedCartman - I'm tyrannical?
ConfusedCartman -

[...]

mrsupercomputer - So, when are we going to overthrow him as admin?
comphermc - I figure once we learn enough to do his job.
ConfusedCartman -

[...]

Ah, good times."

-------------------------

from supersickie

"ConfusedCartman is the backbone of LBPC. Period. Without his leadership and direction, this community surely would have dissolved by now. However, LBPC remains strong as a community and more committed than ever to producing quality content for our beloved game. We all managed to find each other up to nearly two years ago; it is greatly due to CC's attitude and overall approach that we chose to call LBPC 'home'"

-------------------------

from Matt 82

"I can't think of anyone, outside of Mm, who is more dedicated to LBP and the community. In this site, he provides a place for everyone to learn and develop as creators, and all of our levels are better off for it."

-------------------------

from CCubbage

"ConfusedCartman shows great skill and maturity for his age... if I had the same level of maturity at age 16.... well... I'd be in adult diapers by now."

-------------------------

from jwwphotos

You have to wonder a bit when you join a site and find out the admin is called ConfusedCartman. However, I quickly realized that he is one of the most honorable, trustworthy, helpful individuals in LBPC! I have never seen such a dedicated individual that puts in so much time and effort to keep this community running so smoothly. He is one of the folks here at LBPC that I have grown to admire most and proud to call him my friend. Thanks CC!!

-------------------------

from GrantosUK

"ConfusedCartman has crafted a wonderful site that has gathered together a fantastic community. His tireless work on constantly improving the site, his wonderful ideas on new features and competitions have probably kept me playing LBP for the whole year. It's a pleasure to visit the site and hangout, and that's all down to CC. "

-------------------------

from mrsupercomputer

"ConfusedCartman has been a vital part of the LBPC community. His passion, dedication, and guidance have been integral to the site's success and longevity. And he's a lot of fun to work with!"

-------------------------

from Coxy224

Since the beginning of LittleBigTime there has been a need for the special creator that is ConfusedCartman. Some say he was called upon to build the largest LittleBigFansite by Stephen Fry himself and that what we have now is the spawn of Mm themselves.
But in all seriousness, CC is the man. He's the king of LBPC and we are his loyal subjects! We are not worthy of his awesomeness!

-------------------------

from Zwollie

Imagine for a minute what this site would be without Confused Cartman... frightening, no?
I think we are all grateful one way or another that this "youngster" came along about a year ago and changed things for the better. We all love this site and CC is a huge reason for that, this site wouldn't be the awesomesauce that is today without him.

So even though you never return my calls while I left like 50 messages on your voicemail, I love you CC!! Keep up the great work because we all appreciate it!!

-------------------------

from Morgana25

Well, let's see what can I say about CC... He has a wisdom beyond his years for sure. He's awesome as a logic builder, he's got more commitment to making this site as fabulous as it is than anyone... but really we all know that. Okay, how about this...

He seems to really like Coldplay lyrics.

-------------------------

from MrsSpookyBuz

I was really pleased that ConfusedCartman agreed to being Spotlighted. His virtually endless drive and determination are a credit to him, and an example to everyone else. Whatever the future holds for him, I've little doubt that he will be successful.

For this Spotlight, I contacted Media Molecule to invite them to contribute. Unfortunately, they didn't respond in time (maybe due to an update that's due very shortly (), but I wanted to say that I feel sure that they would echo the sentiments that have been expressed by other members above. Thank you.

I have nothing but nice words to say about confused cartman. He is kind, smart, and genuinely cares about this site and its members.

I hate forums, and usually never stay on them very long. I've been here a year now. In that year I've witnessed many changes and improvements to the site, all brought about my mr. confused cartman.

I'm happy to be a part of this site, and I want to thank you, cartman. The care that you've shown in running this site shines through, and we all thank you for it.

I had a strong hunch that this interview was coming (though I kept it to myself) and I was right.

Great interview for a great person. CC makes LBPC special, and LBPC makes LBP a joy to continue to play and support for so long. For this, I think Mm should hire him and give him as a job to simply continue to run LBPCentral this well!

I think all of us feel that way. He has great ability all-round in create mode, visuals, scripting (he wrote almost all of the fantastic dialogue in that pack), gameplay, logic (he even taught me a thing or two ). I'd love to see a new ConfusedCartman production in the future

CC... I have kids your age, and while I love them dearly, they have trouble just getting their homework in on time while still picking matching socks. You are a remarkable, talented, and capable young man. It is truly a privilege to know you.

Yeah, that blew my mind as well! When he told me he was only 16, I was floored. He's probably one of the most mature 16 year olds that I've ever conversed with.

The job he does is quite staggering regardless of his age. This site would be a staggering accomplishment for anyone of any age, but I think it is undeniable how ahead of his years he is

I remember waaaay back when he asked me if I would like to be part of the logic pack. Back then nothing had even started, thinking about it now I had no idea what it would become! Of course it would have been an amazing thing to be part of, however seeing how it turned out, and what an amazing job everyone on it did on it, I'm glad I didn't.

Certain things would have been different, and considering that I honestly think it is absolutely perfect how it is, that it just wouldn't have been right

Hm, this was sooner then I'd expected

Anyway, yep. CC is pretty much a genius. If he is 16 now, then he would have been 15 when he came mod and then admin in the span of three weeks...

So yeah. He must be a genius, and I wish I was more like him =C. Although luck kinda had a lot to do with it (him signing up here when he did and then kinda taking over someone else's forum since they didn't have the time but they still helped pay... yeah, something tells me he wouldn't have been in this position without a lot of luck)

Regardless of luck, he's still a genius for pulling this site together all this time, and with all it's changes that he's made. so yeah, kudos CC. You're insane. That's all I have to say lol

BUT, that was a GREAT look at a young man I truly respect. For my two-cents; the creator spotlight just earned it's wings today! Thanks to all who bring this 'spot' to 'light'. Thank you CC for ALL your efforts both large and small-- you really are a remarkable individual, and maybe not quite as mysterious as 15 minutes ago.

Essential, informative reading.

With all due respect, a lot of the time it's easy to be oblivious of the admins and moderators. I mean that in the nicest possible way - if things are going smoothly, you simply don't notice them, and that's the way it should be.

I realise CC must do a lot of things behind the scenes, and for me, this interview is an honest 'inside view' of his activities. It is glaringly obvious how dedicated he is, and it's apparent from reading other messages on this thread that he's quite rightly held in high regard.

I like these interviews a lot, and I also like the fact that they intersect the Community Spotlight feature. However...

This is totally selfish, but is there any possibility of doing one every week? There are so many creators on here that I would like to know more about, and as far as I can see, this is the only site that does something like this. I accept there's only a certain amount of time available, but truly, these are a great feature, and one that should be fully exploited for the good of the site.

Great work. Thank you.

@LBP--Sentinel - if we did that, then when would we have the community spotlight? I'm not putting you down, just wondering what your thoughts are...

Well, I'm certainly not suggesting that the Creator Spotlights are any less or more important than the Community Spotlights, and I look forward to both features just like many other members do.

Like I said, it was a purely selfish notion on my part. I've read all the Creator Spotlights with avid interest, and knowing a little bit more about the great creators featured is something that I enjoy and something that I've not seen on other LBP sites. For every Community Spotlight, naturally there are at least 9 or 10 levels featured, whereby we only have one Creator Spotlight to look forward to every two weeks. And although I look forward very much to see who is featured in the Creator Spotlight, I just wonder how difficult it would be to have it more regularly.

I mean no harm or pressure on anyone. I just think it's a really good feature, and another feather in the cap for LBPC. But just like Oliver in the musical, "Please, sir, can we have more?"

That's all I meant.

The Creator Spotlight is most certainly one of the highlights of this forum for me and something I look forward to every other week. I'm sure an immense amount of work goes into this so thank you MrsSpookyBuz for all the time and care you put into this. Impeccable choice as always and a very interesting and informative read.

I haven't been on this forum as long as most of the people who have commented up here, but in my rather short time, I have developed an enormous amount of respect for ConfusedCartman. He is indeed mature beyond his years, but he also pulls off something that people far older than he only hope to achieve (points at myself). He is fair, efficient, dedicated, self-sacrificing and wise, and his dedication and commitment to this forum are indeed second to none. I'm glad we got to see a little bit more of the wizard behind the curtain! Thanks ConfusedCartman for everything you do.

To CC! The effort and dedication you put into this site is amazing, not only have you made LBPC a better place, you've made LBP a better place. Imagine LBP without LBPC! I would have stopped playing months ago! So thank you CC.

And it's funny, I always thought you'd look more like this...

Congrats CC.. well deserved spotlight and at a wonderful giving time of year. You have given so much of yourself to make this a wonderful home for us and for that we are in your debt as we can never thank you enough.

MrsSpookyBuz... completely awesome interview as always. Thanks so much for doing this one as it was indeed a wonderful gesture to honor someone as awesome as CC, especially this time of year. It was also a treat to get a chance share in that honor and add some words in tribute. Very classy... You are such a wonderful and thoughtful person. Thanks so much for doing these spotlights!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

All the Creator Spotlights have been special to me, simply because every Spotlightee has been so delightful, patient, and humble. I genuinely enjoy doing them.

@LBP--Sentinel - I would honestly love interviewing more of these talented people, but things like this and the Community Spotlights take time to put together. If I could practically do one per week, I would try my best to do so, but I think it's a happy medium doing things the way they are. But thank you for your comments!

Thanks to everyone for all your lovely comments - ConfusedCartman is indeed an administrator, but that in no way excludes him from being a 'bloody nice person'!

Thank you.

LOL, Two things surprised me today, the creator chosen(glad you changed it up a bit instead of going with an obvious crhoice) and his age, lol I still can't believe I am only a year older. ConfusedCartman was always a mystery to me, I pictured him being in his early twenties and attending college. Never did I imagine him being a high school student, the way he handles himself is even better than a lot of the adults on this forum.

And once again a great Interview by MrsSpookyBuz, ever thought about being a reporter?

Awesome spotlight. Nice work to everyone involved.

Hard to imagine what the site would be like without CC's efforts, really.

I still remember when the forum wasn't the main part of the site, and there was a news page. Ah, good times. I wish someone had a screenshot of the old LBPC to compare with what it is now.

Well done everyone

PS - CC, you look nothing like what I expected. I was hoping for a 8-year-old fat kid in a red coat. Ah well

Dooooooooooooooood... how'd you find that? O-o I remember our brief flirtation with zanbo or whatever it was called... So no, the site itself wasn't like that, that was just what our profile pages were for a like a week over a year ago. Odd you found that D:

... But yeah, that wasn't the old LBPC... y'know, I WOULD like to see the old "By Cartman" design we had when I first signed up... I have no recollection O-o

... ANYWAY... Yep, um... CC RAWKS? :/

I'm a 40 year old high school teacher, and though I haven't known CC as long as some of you here, I can say that I am super-impressed with this young man. I've taught kids his age for years, and not one of them has been as mature and hard-working as this guy.

LBPC makes Little Big Planet. It does what Mm tried to do with its website but didn't, and that's only because Mm hasn't put this young man on the pay-roll yet. If they don't hire you, CC, they will regret it when a competitor does. Before coming to this site, I would never dream of being on-line posting anything after midnight. Well, that's just what I'm doing right now. Bravo. Thanks again MSB for another great interview.

I'd always known CC wasn't that much older than myself, but it is easy to forget and think you're talking to someone much older. He's definitely incredibly mature for his age, I certainly couldn't keep sane looking after us lot

Yeah i wanna know that too! Tell us CC!

Correct answer: he didn't. lbp did WAY back right after the E3 presentation. CC just got lucky and managed to find a site that he could take over without actually having to buy it XD

But LBPC was lucky to have him- I highly doubt this site would even exist without CC (lbp is WAY too busy to handle the site like CC is, and I dunno if any one else would come along :/).

So yeah, Cc didn't start LBPc, he just made it, and actually is the reason is exists, and is the premiere LBP fansite.

Yay for luck :kz:

... I know too much about LBPC, don't I? D:

This is totally selfish, but is there any possibility of doing one every week? There are so many creators on here that I would like to know more about, and as far as I can see, this is the only site that does something like this. I accept there's only a certain amount of time available, but truly, these are a great feature, and one that should be fully exploited for the good of the site.
Thank you for your many kind words (which I have edited out to keep this post from being too long). In regards to your suggestion, the reason we do them the way we do is to prevent content overload. With all of the great Creators out there, doing only two a month pretty much ensures we'll never run out of creative "brains" to pick. It also helps with variety - one week, you get some insight into a favorite creator, and the next week you'll get a nicely formatted list of the latest and greatest levels to play. That way, we're never doing the same thing two weeks in a row.

I would honestly, after reading this, exhaust all possible resources and put together a fund to send you over to Guilford and get you some sort of job at MM, even though this site would be nothing without you. To be honest, until this moment, it hasn't hit me. You hear it, but it's kind of a myth that a guy like you shows maturity 3 times his age and not only that, but he manages the most respected LBP fansite on the internet and successfully disciplines it too. But it is a true myth. And he also does this while in High School. I can't even keep my head straight for two hours during the day and I have half the workload of this guy, not counting a forum the size of a small town. Not only that, he sacrifices financial stability for our will. I may sound like I'm butt-kissing, and honestly I know I'm sounding like it, and that all of us here have been repeating this message over these 5 pages of praise, but I just restate what I think is true.

ConfusedCartman is an awesome human being and we should aspire to be like him

Wow, I really don't know what to say except: thank you! If I find a way to convince Mm to hire me (still don't know how I'm going to do that), I will have to find a way to cover the expenses - my family would help, definitely, but I might just end up taking you up on that offer as well. I don't want to load my financial situation onto the shoulders of the LBPC community though, so I think that would be a backup plan more than anything. I've still got a year and a half before I graduate, though, so don't worry about it just yet.

(I'm about to talk about myself a bit more - sorry if I seem too self-indulgent :blush

I think the biggest hurdle will be convincing Mm that they're better off with me than without me. Their goal is to remain fairly small as a company - they still only have about 35 people on staff, and they want it to stay small. Because of their belief in being efficient, they don't hire people willy-nilly - they make sure they only hire those people that would bring a significant amount of talent to the table. They've already got two community managers, and they don't seem to need a third at all, so I have to find a way to prove to them that I would be a beneficial addition to the team and not just extra unnecessary weight. I'm still at a loss as to how I'm going to do that. I keep coming back to the possibility of just showing Mm that the community as a whole thinks it's a good idea, but I almost don't want to do that because I don't want to look like I'm trying to force their hand. Another option would be to just keep doing what I'm doing and hope at some point they decide that I'm worth hiring, but I also hate leaving things to chance, especially my potential future.

So, I guess I'm (once again) asking the community for help: do you guys have any ideas?

Keep on rocking at this site is the first, obvious choice. The second one is: additional skillset. I have no idea if you're good at programming, music, art design, or what...but my experience is, small units need renaissance men more than anything else. Remember that animated "work cloud" they came up with showing how people got involved, and re-involved, and re-involved in the process of making LBP? Everyone in that shop is going to need help from time to time, and you need to be the one who shows up to provide that help. Whatever you apply for, when the time comes, you need to be able to whip out some kind of "I also walk dogs" statement.

More in a PM, if it please you.
