Virtual Reality Design Contest?

Archive: 13 posts

Hey folks... all through the design process for my new level:

Virtual Reality - Survival Challenge (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=19867)

I had in the back of my mind a design contest for these small compact rooms that the level cycles through. I made some deliberate choices in the design to make it very modular and dynamic, allowing for multiple options, room specific logic, and camera zones.

So take a look at the poll and let me know what you think.

Hey V0rtex!

Awesome idea! ...I had to check #3, but not because of water levels. More in thinking of it being the holidays as well as the OC create contest might have folks preoccupied. At least the holiday one is wrapping up, so maybe doing it sometime in January?

It would seem I lie squarely in the majority.2009-12-19 16:00:00

This sounds like a great idea, v0rtex!

The level is doing well (I've only had a quick go, so I haven't finished it yet), and while I think it's good for people to get involved, you may have a few options at your disposal.

- see how well the level does, and then save this idea for a sequel.
- have a competition to see which rooms you like best, and add them to the original level
- have a 'special edition' rather than a sequel, with as many rooms included as you want/need.

It's a cracking idea though. Like I say, I need to play your level again, but from what I've seen some of your rooms are great, and I love modular, compartmental designs.

Not sure if I'll be able to enter if it was quite soonish, but certainly in the New Year I'd be tempted to give it a shot.

Well thanks, I appreciate the effort, and I'd like to see what you've come up with, but I'm not sure how it would work...

If and when I do this, I will publish a template room from which to start. The demitter engine in my level requires very precise dimensions and structure (for example, the holes all need to line up correctly and the mag keys must be placed properly for the platforms to rise up where they are supposed to).

what about just giving out the room size with holes and keys on them and just put that in a level,
but how hard does it need to be, and how complacated does it need to be?
I looked at the pics, but i just found the level (witch i relly liked) and know i know what you mean.
o yea, i might need to start over because of all the logic

EDIT: i toke some things off, but it will change

I would definitely join if the contest starts up. I do suggest waiting till after everyone experiments with water though, or it'll just be unnecessarily long for the deadline.

I have some ideas already for some pretty awesome rooms.
