So.... does this mean we need to buy water?

Archive: 23 posts

since it's in the POTC pack, won't we need to buy water? seems kinda unfair IMO. especially since i beta tested. oh well. im going to get it, but for some people who dont have money on PSN, they are very unlucky.2009-12-17 23:19:00

Much like the paintinator, you pay to create with it but not to play with it. That's my understanding anyway.2009-12-17 23:27:00

Well then if you've had it free for months you can't really complain.

Well people who beta tested LBP still had to buy the game if they wanted to play it right? MM and Sony are in this for the money so they have to sell it. I think it's nice you can play water levels without having to buy it - they could have been really stingy and made it so you couldn't so I don't have a problem with it.2009-12-17 23:50:00

I think it's a great deal actually. I was in the beta too but so were thousands of others. That doesn't give us an automatic right to free stuff. I was just happy to be able to test it and try to help get rid of a lot of bugs before it was released.

If you think back to a year ago the MGS pack cost just as much. This pack looks like being just as big with the added bonus of water aswell so all in all I'm more than happy to pay for it.

Mm do have to make money after all. They can't give everything away free. Hopefully they'll make lots of money from this which will enable them to bring us even more great stuff in future.

Can you imagine the rage if the beta testers got water for free? 2009-12-18 02:43:00

Totally fair to me. They worked really hard on it. I'll happily pay them for it.2009-12-18 07:07:00

There was enough rage about beta testers getting buggy, unfinished water, for a lmited time, for free.

And we did get it free for a limited time - free and exclusive. How can you complain about that? It was great!

I'm gonna be buying this as soon as the store updates / I get home from work on Tuesday. It's gonna be great!

Too right, rtm, I'll be right there with you at the PSN Store!

Testing was great fun, and it helped Mm iron out a lot of pretty major bugs. I think it was reward enough to get in the beta without expecting to get the full release for free.

Mm make very little money from DLC, and for a pack this size it's relatively cheap. What's 5 quid? 10 Chocolate bars? Bargain!

Y'know, that's exactly the same thing I thought when I saw the price tag. Really cheap considering everything you get in it.

Mm make very little money from DLC,

Is that after they've taken off licence fees, server costs, sonys cut, wages etc?

They must make enough to make the continued support of the game financially viable instead of having to get going on a sequel.

I've tried to make it a little clearer

I'd rather pay for it, then to get it for free :L2009-12-18 14:35:00

Even when we pay for it, Mm probably only get like 50p or something stupid.

That's what annoys me about DLC, you know. I'd happily pay ?10 for this, but I bet Mm wouldn't even see half.

When you consider that most game publishers will charge double, or almost double for a couple of levels (or missions) that were removed from the main game to be sold later as DLC, these packs are an absolute steal.

As we all know, the DLC here will be used for a thousand things that will have us all playing for many, many hours. Well worth a fiver.

I don't mind. I think that MM deserves money after working so hard on making awesome looking levels and water. I unfortunately did not participate in the Beta, so I don't mind at all paying for water. I already have some nice ideas for it.

Plus LBP's DLC is about 3X less expensive thanmost other games'.

Yeah- I can't see anyone complaining about this deal... and I do mean deal! It is the absolute perfect Holiday gift. I really can't thank Mm (and Sony) enough! I am so addicted to this title, It is scary... I've yet to start Uncharted2... I can not leave this littlebigworld and all the creative people I have met herein.

(Believe me I tried...)

Compared to the Call of Duty 'map packs', which were four maps (which you could never play because not everyone had them and they always got vetoed) and a new nazi zombie location for $10, I would say this is an absolute steal!2009-12-19 17:47:00

I'd rather pay than get this for free. It helps lessen the amount of bad levels that will come. From what I remember, the amount of paintinator levels that were outright terrible wasn't bad enough to cause me to attack people, so I think this will be fine too.2009-12-19 18:01:00

That's a good point... if 8-12 year-olds are satisfied with crappy bomb survival and point spamming levels, it's unlikely that they or their parents would want to go through the trouble to download the DLC (not that buying things on PSN is hard )

I am more than happy to pay ?5 for something that will have me hooked on this game for probably another year at least. the 22nd of December which i have now renamed to Danish day is the day I have been waiting for, for months ever since water was announced.

EDIT: Also the extra details page on the levels is brilliant i cant wait to see those stats.

Its worth the money believe me. And like Matt said, most companies charge a load for a few levels of bits of stuff that could have easily been included in the main game. MM has worked on this, so paying them for it is no bad thing.2009-12-21 10:40:00
