An Interesting Question..

Archive: 45 posts

Would you rather be a fantastic, brilliant creator with virtually flawless levels but hardly anyone knew about you, or a creator who has average levels but a very large percentage of LBP'ers heard of you and hearted you?

And please don't say "well if your a brilliant creator you have to be well known", because we all know that's sometimes not the case.

I'm average creator who is virtually unknown. Best of both worlds!

Oh...

Edit: To answer your questions. I rather have fun creating without worrying about what people think of me or my levels.

No doubt: I'd rather be the skilled unknown.

By a long, long ways.

I'd like to think of my current LBP status as skilled and unknown, and I don't mind it.
Like Syroc said, I have a lot of fun creating despite of what people might think of my levels.

I am much better known for the use of the word "Thrupnies" than I am for creating levels.

I remember when I would use to put a lot of hard work into a level, only for it to get about 1-50 plays. I suppose it would be better to be skilled.2009-12-17 23:03:00

Nope, it's true. Icey's levels are great, but her use of thrupnies is iconic.

I would go with average levels and lots of fame, for two reasons.

1. I already have average levels so some more fame would be nice.

2. You don't have to make perfect levels to enjoy the process of making them.

Edit: What are thrupnies?

Skill and unknown for sure

OHAYZETTLA.

Oh, and I, like most people, would rather be skilled and unknown.

I mostly build my levels just to have something to play with my friends, anyway.

I always hesitate in publishing levels, too...

I like to think of myself as a good creator. As in, better than bomb survivals, but not as good as the "Great" creators we all know.

Although, does that mean I'll never get the CREATE trophy...?

I know the bolded my not be a joke but I laughed reading it. I guess I consider myself "an average creator" so I thought exactly that while reading the thread.

It would definitely be the skilled creator for me... like anposteller i suppose (although his fame is growing)

I do have a feeling that I fall more into the other category tho.

I think it is weird that people get 100,000+ plays when their levels are nothign but ugly bomb survival levels. I mean seriuosly. I saw a level called titanic survival. And it was not even in an ocean setting he used the willdernes background. The titanic was minamilstic and made out of cardboard with NO stickers. And it was another bomb survival level with points and timed explosives falling in OMgoodnes.

I want good stuff not bomb survivals on cool page =(((

The reason there are so many bomb survival levels is because their so easy to make. Their the kind of levels people restart a lot, giving it lots of plays. That along with republishing constantly, it's how you get on cool levels with the minimum amount of effort. That's why there always on Page 1.2009-12-26 06:56:00

If I were to answer this question on the past, before having published any level, I guess that I would have said "Average with fame", since -c'mon- being a well known name tempts the majority of us, I believe.

But now, I'd go for the other option, mostly because what "fame" means in LBP. As far as I noticed, in most of the cases that fame consits on people screaming in caps how a great creator you are, and recieving a lot, and I mean a lot, spamming on your level comments. Yes, you may get more plays, but unless you're a walking ego, that won't make you feel a greater creator.
Unluckily, there are tons of those walking egos who do look down on us just because they get more hearts and attention.

So, I answer #1, but I add "while being a LBPC member"

I'd rather be a brilliant creator who isn't well known.

Already got the not-well-known part sorted, now I just need to be a brilliant creator.
I've had one hit so far, Escheresque gave me my 15 minutes, hopefully my Little Big Fantasy series ( when finished, 6/7 parts in total) will give me a little longer than 15 minutes. XD

Honestly, those people don't have egos, they are the most insecure creators going. If you are a walking ego you don't need anything to back you up, you just know you're that **** good

Like most people have said on this thread, I would be a skilled creator that isn't very well known. I find that I'm not satisfied if I just build just an average level, and if I'm not doing the best I can do when creating there is no point in me doing it.

As long as I had one or two loyal fans

I don't mean bomb levels as average, more like 4 star levels.

But I can see why everyone chooses hidden talent, it'd be much harder to choose if LBP was a music industry and average meaning 'X factor'.

On a sidenote I found it very funny RATM got Christmas no.1 here in Ireland and Britain.

I would say that I am an above average creator, I'm not amazing or anything but I have my own quirky style. Primarily I build levels for msyelf, I build levels to express my feelings at that time or I build things that interest me and if people can relate to my levels then that's just an added bonus. It doesn't really matter where I compare with the rest of the community (even though I made the assumption that I'm above average) because it's all relative anyway.

And now a quote taken from the song sunscreen

"The race is long, the race is hard and in the end it's with yourself"

Hmmm. how did I miss this thread? I was out of town when it was happening....

Anyhoo, I think my levels speak for themselves. I don't create for mass popularity, and actually try very hard to target my levels towards a particular audience that may enjoy them. I think there's a difference between wanting to feel like people are enjoying your work, and needing to feel famous.

I was being a tad sarcastic, but my levels are on the more difficult side so sometimes they get rubbish tags.
