I was excited for water until... WARNING let downs follow...

You can ONLY fill the WHOLE level with water.... you cannot have a swimming pool, no slides, waterfalls, rivers... etc!

I was so excited up to that point.

theres the link.

its sad IMO... because now you can't make fun little swimming pool levels to hang out with your friends when its in the winter....

I think water is great like it is. Making water like you expected it to be would be extremely difficult for the PS3 to run.2009-12-17 00:52:00

Ok thanks for posting your opinion. Practically everyone else on this site knew about this and is still excited. And you can still make pools... just in a different kind of way.

No home console or computer would be able to run a full fluid simulation in something the size of a LBP level. Imagine if you filled the whole level with it, the PS3 would have to calculate all the forces and movements between each and every 'ball' (which at a very basic level is what water is), where each ball is practically infinitely small thus you can get an unfathomable number within the level. The PS3 would have to calculate every interaction of every ball with every other ball, object and edges within the level. That is a lot of calculations.
Your PS3 would quickly go the same way as your brain would if you had to do that...boom...

I'm still excited for water to come, no matter how you use it. It's a new gameplay tool and that's good enough for me 2009-12-19 20:17:00

If you use all the front and back layers to completely encapsulate the play area and set a water mark slightly below it, then you could easily carve out a swimming pool or something in the 3 active layers.2009-12-19 20:22:00

I'm still excited for Water to come, even if there is no water material and its only Level-filling water. And I'm also excited to play the new levels by MM.

It would be cool if mm could make waterfalls like an object to place in your level (like an animation of water). It could be like an animated decoration, with no need for it to have any practical use. Then we could make our levels feel more alive.2009-12-20 11:53:00

Moved to Everything Else LittleBigPlanet.

It's a shame that water can't be used in small chunks but if it was introduced I imagine it would be as a very thermometer heavy material.

Yes, and a it's current stage it does not take up any bit of the thermo.

About animated decorations, these would also be nice for things such as rain, snow, or sand/dust storms.

Well, I knew this update wouldn't be clear to people. It's at "WATER LEVEL" and they should market it clearly. Or maybe not. People's infinite imagination is great for sales!!
