A Land of Apparent Virtue

A Land of Apparent Virtuebonner123 Parallel to our own world is a land. But not just any land. A Land of Apparent Virtue. I worked on this level for about a week. I tried to fit in some new and unique gameplay, as well as a somewhat tacky visual style. The level is pretty tricky and is about 10-15 minutes long. A_SmartPerson helped with the boss. I will do around 5 F4Fs. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks! all | 2009-12-15 22:59:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Ah yes. Another level by bonner. You know, you are starting to get on my nerves. You always publish your levels when I have no time to play them! Anywho, I'll get back to you on feedback. | 2009-12-16 03:59:00 Author: iGotFancyPants Posts: 1355 |
Fantastic. Every section had some gameplay that gave me a feeling of discovery and surprise. One of the most enjoyable levels around. | 2009-12-16 15:06:00 Author: Kipmonlin Posts: 251 |
I agree with Kipmonlin, definitely one of the most enjoyable levels around. No idea how you didn't run out of thermo earlier with this one. The visuals and the gameplay are amazing as usual. On one of the jetpack parts where you have to launch yourself up you can't really see where the jetpack is so I suggest you put some cameras there. 5 starred and hearted, keep up the good work! | 2009-12-16 21:20:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
LEVEL CHANGES- -I added several infinite life checkpoints. -I adjusted some camera angles. -I added a sign. | 2009-12-16 23:25:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Hey there, I tried to take a look at your level, but at the beginning there is a big wheel with an eye in the middle, and it seems impossible to climb it. You cant roll it anywhere either... so I am a little stumped as to what I am supposed to do. o.o hopefully im not just missing something simple lol, but could you tell me what to do? Ill take a look after and edit this post with feedback. Just let me know! If you wouldnt mind could you check out my level, Mechanica - District 15 for your F4F? I would love hearing your thoughts on it. Heres a link to the thread. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=19936 Ill replay your level asap! | 2009-12-17 08:27:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
I played that level and it's great, i'll play it again so everything is fresh in my mind. As for the 'eye wheel', it is a puzzle. | 2009-12-17 22:55:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
I just realized there is a glitch with the boss. When the back wall dies, so does the tethered jetpack. But if you still have a jetpack on, it becomes a make shift tetherless jetpack. How do you think I can solve this? | 2009-12-18 15:24:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
YAY bonner! I'll check it out. | 2009-12-18 16:14:00 Author: KQuinn94Z Posts: 1758 |
LEVEL CHANGES- -Electrified the cardboard you need to blow up. -Added a secret area | 2009-12-19 00:57:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
l'm still wondering how to fix the glitch. If anyone can help, please message me via PsN. | 2009-12-19 16:40:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Hey bonner, The level has some good ideas as a whole, but I think it has some play testing and flushing out to do. Right off the bat, im going to say its wayyyy to hard to get on top of the wheel at the beginning, which I believe is a problem that needs to be addressed asap because I could see it easily deterring people from your level. The part where you have to drop bombs onto the electrified material was a really neat idea, but I think theres too much electric material to blast through. I dont think it should take more than three bombs or so. Theres a couple of places where if you fall down, youve got to retry. Its a tad tedious having to do that. I also suggest you use double life or infinite checkpoints because of the dificulty of your level. Once you get to the part with the jetpack i could either not figure out what to do, or there was a glitch. The cord is very short, and wont allow you to go anywhere. I hat to quit the level here sadly. Visually Your level has some great designs, but I find the material choices you chose are too wide and varied for my taste. There metal, concrete, grass, etc and if you shortened the list of materials you used you would save thermo AND make for a better design as a whole. Overall I would say this level needs a bit of cleaning up, but there is alot of potential here! I gave it three stars, but that could be bumped up to 4 or 5 if you make some changes that allowed it to flow better. Thanks! | 2009-12-19 18:40:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
Story: The description sounded pretty interesting, but I'm not sure where the story kicked in through the level. At the end I battled a large heart, who I'm assuming was the Teleporter Fairy. Pretty incohesive storyline, but since it's a pure platformer it's not that important. I don't really know what virtues this land possessed. Visuals: I wasn't really a fan of the visuals in this level. The color and material contrasts were a little off for me. There seemed to be way too many materials all over the place for the level to feel like it had any sort of theme. I was also put off by the use of purple lights. Again, purely a personal choice, but I found the level a little tacky. Also, visible switches, magnets, and emitters turn me off a little, so if I were to make any immediate changes it would be that. Gameplay: The platforming was alright, but some of the areas made it easy to get stuck in the wrong way, and I'm not a fan of popping my Sackboy. The start was a little slow - trying to get on top of the sponge circle just got annoying, and it's easy to get stuck on the other side. The part with the explosives got a little redundant. It took way too many explosives to get through, and they kept popping on the sides and not making any progress. I was really disappointed at the part where you have to kill yourself to progress - I love to be able to make a perfect run to complete the level and a forced death takes away from that. Another tweak I would make: smoothen the rotation of the activated spinning circles, after the cloud with the silly face. They're extremely sporadic and it makes it unnecessarily frustrating. Oh. I just reached another section where it was necessary that I kill myself. I'm not a fan of that part either. I could have replayed and easily gotten #1 Ranking, but it didn't beg me to be replayed. IT's major plus, however, was it's length. It's a long journey from start to finish, and I enjoy that in a level. Score and Rank: 12, 247 and #2. Rating: Four Stars. lol the level was supposed to be tacky. LEVEL CHANGES- -Tweaked the visibility on the bolts, switches ect... -I made the first bomb section a bit shorter. Can I have a couple of examples where you got stuck? I'll try to edit them. I'll F4F your level ASAP. To be honest, I agree that the contrast is off. However I tried to do something that differs from my other levels. I guess it didn't work out. I might replace the spinning wheels with something else. | 2009-12-19 19:31:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
The tether for the jetpack is meant to be short. It's hard to explain, but I'll try. Hold down X, and release the jetpack the instant you hit the maximum length. I'll remove some of the electrified cardboard. I actually got several people to playtest already; some parts of the level just require some practice, like the 'jetpack jumps'. If you could, could you pm some pics of where you got stuck? I might just redo the level. I essentially just chose the materials at randon, because I was going for a randon, tacky look. Thanks for your feedback. | 2009-12-19 19:58:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
I have to say - the name is definitely what got my attention on this level. I'll make sure to play it next time I'm on. | 2009-12-19 20:12:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |
And that was the point of the title xD even though it's completely irrelevant. | 2009-12-19 20:15:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |

I'll try your level but could I possibly have more feedback than that? It's just that I want to improve the level. | 2009-12-21 04:17:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
That ****** the hell out of me. It was a really great level actually, but it was insanely difficult. It was also a very well designed level. You had some interesting puzzles here and there and the jetpack bit was pretty fun, if not too difficult. Overall, great, great level; definitely worth a look. :star::star::star::star: | 2009-12-23 09:32:00 Author: galacemiguel Posts: 179 |
Thanks, are there anymore areas that are too difficult? | 2009-12-24 17:51:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |

Geez why are people bumping this thread? I know it's an amazingly awesome level that is known to cure some strands of the rhinovirus but still... let it die... /jk | 2010-04-21 23:48:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
This is a really good level, the use of materials were very good and unique. The gameplay was also very innovative, the first part with rolling the rock back, then forward real fast to get you on top, was something that I've rarely seen used before. The end heart-boss was very well made too. The level was very long, and it had the perfect amount of challenge. Great work, and I look forward to your future levels. :arg: :star::star::star::star::star: | 2010-04-22 02:00:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Thanks. I already have other levels out, as I made this in December | 2010-04-22 23:32:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
I played it and loved it. The platforming was fun, the boss was great, and there are some really interesting gameplay elements you introduced here. I've never seen jetpack jumping before. That said, this feedback is pretty much irrelevant now, huh? I just realized how old this thread is. | 2010-04-24 14:46:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
It is, but i'll leave feedback on your sky level if you want. | 2010-04-24 14:48:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
It is, but i'll leave feedback on your sky level if you want. Nah, man I'll just go play that Mailbox level you made. I played it before but couldn't beat it. Funny story though. | 2010-04-24 18:26:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
