Boss level collaboration project

Right. This is just an idea that popped into my head earlier. Thought I'd post about it here to see if anyone would like to be involved and whether I should take it further.



I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't seen many particualrly impressive bosses in LBP. Most of the time it's just an evil guy at the end of a level who shoots plasma balls everywhere, and you have to shoot him with the Paintinator until he explodes. Even I do this. There aren't many bosses which match The Collector or Metal Gear Rex, with complex attack patterns and different phases, presenting weak spots at certain moments and generally feeling like an epic boss fight.

Maybe the reason for this is that people run out of thermo near the end of a level. So, why not create a level where all you have to do is defeat a boss? Like a mini-game sort of thing? Anyone in the original OC beta who took part in the boss challenge will known what I'm on about.

But what's better than a single boss level? Why, lots of boss levels, of course!! My idea is to make several bosses, all very different, but all linked together in a sort of story. Perhaps similar to Shdow of the Colossus. But I'd never be able to make all these on my own, so I want it to be a collaboration project where lots of creators can get involved and maybe work in groups to build their own boss level as part of the series. Like the Contra project.


The plan is to have 7 boss levels, all published under the same PSN. Bosses 1-4 will all be unlocked form the start, and will be fairly straightforward to defeat. Bosses 5-6 will be locked, and will be harder. Boss 7 will also be locked, and will hopefully be the most epic boss battle every created in the history of forever, and will be quite a challenge to beat.

The level structure and the way they will unlock will be as follows:

Completing Boss 1 or 2 will unlock Boss 5.
Completing Boss 3 or 4 will unlock Boss 6.
Completing Boss 5 or 6 will unlock Boss 7.

So, it'll kind of be like a multi-path story. To get to the end you'll only need to complete 3 levels, but for the best experience you can go back and play the others too.

Each level will just be a boss fight. Start off in a little seperate area (with a character saying something along the lines of "Help! A giant fire breakthing marshmallow is attacking the world!!"). Then you go into the boss area and beat the boss. It releases a key or prize, you hop over to the scoreboard then play the next boss level. Maybe make each boss a race too, so the faster you beat it, the more points you get.

The bosses will also all need to be very different, with probably only a couple of levels using the Paintinator. There's much more orginal ways of fighting bosses than shooting them.




So, the important question....... do you think this is a good idea? And would anybody be interested in helping???

I think its a good idea, and unfortunately am already preoccupied with lbpctg to help.

You might want to look into the previous Boss Rushes that LBPC has hosted. I think they're under the psn LBPC_BossRush but just searching boss rush should come up with them in there. There are several level collaborations from forum members there.
