Annoying (New?) Create Bug

Archive: 22 posts

So, I have twice now gotten a create bug which is rather annoying. What happens seems to occur when I rewind - the screen goes black, and I am brought to the XMB. I was shocked both times when it happened, as it was essentially an instantaneous exiting of the game. Usually when you quite the game, it take a few seconds for the game to properly shut down, but not in this case. It's about a 2 second delay between pressing rewind and my XMB popping up. It's rather disconcerting.

Has this been happening to anyone else?

I'm fearing that my my PS3 is crapping out on me or my profile has been corrupted. It happened once yesterday, and again today.

We're you playing with others on create? It locked up on me twice when doing online create, I don't know if it involved this glitch (i don't know who discovered it) where if someone removes a grabbable material that another person is grabbing he looks all funny, poor Aaron looked like he got kicked in the nuts LOL.

It did happen to me once or twice long ago (can't remember what i was doing) where it went to the XMB. Scared me there.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that it's happened to, then.

It happened yesterday when I was alone, and today when mrsupercomputer was in the level. Too bad, too - because I had made some progress...

Well all I can say is BACK UP THEM THAR PROFILES, YINZ.

... No, but seriously, backing up your profile might be a good idea. You never know when your file just might mess up D:

Thanks guys. I have been backing up my levels, but do I have to manually back up my profile? (i.e. exit the game and use a flash drive) It'd be a real shame to lose everything, y'know?2009-12-15 01:02:00

Whenever i quit the game it restarts my PS3 and deletes my progress. So i have to turn off my PS3 instead of quitting the game. I have floating Ping issues too. Sometimes its good and sometimes its super spiky and i believe the problem you've experienced happened in one of the super spikes. Maybe even several. But luckily enough I don't lose save progress because of it. I do believe it is happening more frequently supposedly because of the leerdammer update.2009-12-15 01:04:00

Go to the pause menu, and then user CP. you can actually back up your profile now just like you'd back up a level 2009-12-15 01:06:00

Yeah, I don't think it's just you, because I also got kicked out to the XMB when it happened.

Ouch...some of these new bugs sound extremely harsh!

Now I'm not looking forward so much to installing Leerdammer when I get my new PS3. Sounds as though it's actually done more to destroy the game than to enhance it!

It's not all bad, Ungreth. This bug included, I prefer the changes that Leerdammer has brought us. This is the first problem I've had with it. Just save often!2009-12-15 14:07:00

Couple thoughts:

I had an issue in "Roll Out the Barrel" where when I would edit OR play in the "big turning wheels" section, it would every once in a while kick out to the XMB... not very often, but it always seemed to be in that one section (I thought at first my PS3 was dying). I deleted one of the wheels from that section and the issue went away. This was before Leerdammer came out.

My point being, it may not necessarily be the update, but there are certainly sometimes memory issues occur in LBP - where a bit of memory could get corrupted under specific circumstances. So, make a note of what location of your level you are doing editing or playing when the issue occurs - if it's consistently in the same area it make take some fiddling to make the issue go away.

Actually I know of this prior to Leerdammer. It happened to me whenever I tried to play Ladylyn's "Whichever way the wind blows - Gold" when it was still relatively new. Whenever I hit the checkpoint after the bridge puzzle I was sent back to the XMB. I eventually told him and he moved the checkpoint and I was finally able to finish the level.

My little brother has also experienced it prior to Leerdammer. It seemed whenever he tried to make costume stickers the game would quit out to the XMB when he tried to take a picture of his stickers.

We haven't experienced these phenomena since the Leerdammer update though.

EDIT: Cuz beat me too it lol

Something similar happened to me twice, but not in create mode!

Two times when I launched the game, then pressed the button as usual to skip the introduction,
it took me back to the XMB instead of entering the pod...

Don't know why, but it was after the leerdammer update...

My PS3 freezes sometimes when I quit the game, and it froze a couple of times when I was with a friend. But I have never encountered this bug (yet).

Fear mah awsum bad bug invincibility!!1!1!! RAWR!!111!1!!!

LOL, joking aside, I have never encountered this bug, but I hope it doesn't happen to me (or to anybody else). This makes me wonder how many bugs and errors LittleBigPlanet had, before it was even released in stores.

Thanks guys. Thankfully the area of my level that occurs at has since been replaced. Let's hope the issue goes away.

My robot showcase for Wex, the vinny one. There's a robot I named Foll*E to the right past the scoreboard... This robot carries a limited shot paint gun inside it and is set to follow the player... OK. So back in april when I made him I foresaw some 2-on-2 ground war level... except now its pure folly because if you turn your guns on foll*E right before you hit his brain...the game freezes!2009-12-17 18:24:00

I've had this issue occur once to me as well. I was working on my level, the screen suddenly went black and I was on the XMB. Thankfully I don't think I lost much.2009-12-20 00:03:00

Sounds like another thing for me to live in fear of since the last update. Shortly before it was rolled out, my save data corrupted. Every load up since then required me to select the "Load backup data" option which I was happy to do- It was much preferable to the alternative: losing all my content, levels and data...

Come the update though, losing my data became a grim reality. Not only did I no longer have the option to load up my backup data, everything was gone too. Everything. All costumes, all creations, all levels, everything. Oh, and then my goldfish died.

It turned out to be a not entirely awful calamity though. Starting from scratch has allowed me to discover the game all over again and see it from a fresh perspective as a creator. A little over a year of playing and LBP suddenly feels like a fresh, bold new experience.

That said, I'm still at a loss to find a silver lining in the untimely demise of my poor pet goldfish, Captain Carrot. Perhaps I can take solace in the fact that somewhere in that aquatic hereafter, he's up there realising his dream of being the best, ****ed, improvisational jazz trumpeter that ever lived...

Anyway... I have something in my eye...
