Flags/Switches?

Archive: 12 posts

This is really basic, but I haven't heard anything about it.

Are there flags/switches in the game? By that I mean objects (physical or nonphysical) that are "activated" by certain conditions and cause new events to happen?

A basic physical example would be a literal switch, such as a button that you stand on. It could be used, for example, in a puzzle where 4 players have to work together in order to help one of them reach the switch (or drop a block on it), and when he reaches it a door opens to let the others through. A nonphysical example would be something like a particular spot which, when reached, triggers an event like a boss spawning, a door closing, or a cannon launching.

Flags and switches are such simple things, but they unlock vast potential in a sandbox game like this. I'm almost positive the devs must be including them, but I haven't heard anything about this yet. Does anyone know?

As far as I know... No!

But it's a great Idea an I agree, they should include it.

If not, things could still be possible, you just have to think more.

Doesn't look like this is the most popular board in the world, but there's been an update!

In the new dev's walkthrough on Gametrailers, he talks about placing "microchips" that add "logic" to your levels. It's pretty vague about what they can do, but from the looks of it, these chips were being used to cause platforms to begin moving when a player steps on them. A microchip is also apparently involved in linking two levers together to open a bridge, though I didn't catch exactly how. This is exactly what I meant by flags/switches.

Depending on the depth of programming they allow us to use with these things, this new feature could unlock virtually limitless potential in level design (or even in making entirely different games within the game). No matter what, I'd say this is a pretty huge development.

Yup. Just saw the video. Just awesome! This let's you trigger an event that gets "tripped" so to speak by an action. That can be a simple as your character touching something, to other triggers. I think this made an amazing creation game into something almost perfect. I mean this makes the levels we create SO much more customized in how they react.

What about one of the early videos, where they get on jetpacks and drop shells/rocks onto a board and it lifts a rock wall.. it acts as a lever, is this done using tools like mentioned or physics, like the lever is pinned to the rock and when it moves down to rock moves up? Either way call for great customization.

This game just got better

In one video I saw the sackboy jump on a button and by doing so it made an object dissolve into thin air.2008-07-30 12:12:00
