OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! World 5: The SkyCaptainCowboyHat
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/tumorzombie/APhoto_19.jpgThe adventure (finally) continues. Enjoy my overuse of both the "eerie wind" sound and the "wooden crate" material, and the portion of the level where I totally rip off New Super Mario Brothers Wii. Also attempt to find my most obscure secret ever!
all
[ Not an F4F because I'm totally swamped with crap to do ]
Also, let me know if you find any bugs - for some reason it feels like I haven't playtested this one nearly as much as I usually do. Have fun!

I enjoyed it quite a lot. The visuals are top notch and in my opinion the best in the series.

Also, the level is a blast to play! A bit difficult but never felt frustrating!

I suck at platforming lol died about 029485409 times. Still managed to finish though

One thing I'd like you to know; There was a sound and magnetic key visible at the end. Just wanna let you know

5 stars and hearted

Well, now that you've gone through and shown me where all the secrets are, I can [maybe] make a proper run at a high score? Jack will come and take it for sure, but it's best to have had it and lost it, than to have never have it at all... right?

Anywho, another 5 star level from you, sir.

didn't find the secrets level... :kz:

Anyway, did you include the thing that could be abused to get an infinite score? mind saying what it is or was, because i'm confused what it could be.

Many magic mouths should have a bigger radius, I kept on sliding past them and missing what the king had to say (had to go back and press triangle).

I also loved the final armada, although I was sad that your classic boss as shrunk down and tacked on to the final ship just so it'd be there... bit of a shame in my opinion. Also, was weird that there was no "gimmick" this time as there'd been in 2-4 (I always thought of 1's gimmick as just being jumping)

five stars and hearted nonetheless :kz:

Awesome as usual

Only had a quick play through as it was at my neighbours like I said! Found one secret but will have more of a poke around another time

Still got second place though!

Will comment again and give more feedback after I've had a proper play!

Still 5 stars and hearted obviously!

I did not include the infinite point combo. Nobody wanted me to! And it would totally have been the "gimmick," so that's why there wasn't one. I'd blab about what it was, but I wanna make a non-OH NO!!! level based on it, so I won't.

Also I'm not really shooting for gimmicks... they just kinda happen when they happen.

Fantastic and fun. Just a couple things. The anchor got stuck on the green ledge to the left when I swung over there. Could have forced a restart if I had jumped down. Last magic mouth would only activate on a tiny spot.2009-12-14 00:55:00

Fixed... sort of. It's a lot harder to get it stuck up there now, at least.

Another fantastic and awesome installment of this Oh So excellent series CaptainCowboyHat! I generally tend to try to just survive through the whole thing and landing on the scoreboard is my only goal when it comes to your Oh No! series (yeah, I really do suck ). Bless you and your infinite life checkpoints!

A real gem, like your others. 5 stars and hearted.

Dude, Im not a follower of this series... but id thought id give this a shot because of the response uv got on here.

Visually it was pretty good but i couldn't really grasp much of a story (having not played the others im guessing thats my fault )

However, I found it really frustrating. Its very hard and there were many occasions where i died like plus 10 times. I eventually gave up at the section with the spikes in the clouds. Maybe im just a bad player but i really did find it very difficult. Id say that if u made it a lil easier ud get more plays and hearts, but thats just my opinion.

Im sure its a great series though.

As for f4f, any chance of playing my new level: Planet X

@morgana: I almost didn't make it through. I played by myself and still died 20 sum odd times.

@ladylyn1: Everyone who has played the series knows its hard, thats why its so much fun. You get so frustrated that you laugh at yourself.

I want to ace one of these, just once.

I've certainly never aced any of them (I haven't even aced the stupid Bunker yet). I can't seem to make levels that aren't absurdly hard, so I've stopped trying. I'm just glad infinite checkpoints exist

Thanks for playing, everyone!

Gah, this level is so frustrating (but fair)...and I love every bit of it . The simple platforming mixed with new concepts and comedy was great once again. This is how the game should be! Thanks a lot for this.
I especially liked the "parsnip" areas and the part with the two things going back and forth with gas where you have to "platform" up (<--that made no sense but I hope you understood) and the part with the brains and the part with the...you get the idea.
The only "flaw" I could find was that on one of the brain parts right before the ship with the "spinning thing" there's a green mag key visible and also an emitter visible on the one with the "spinning thing".
Also, I think the scoreboard would look better if you put it without the base and moved it up a couple layers.
5 stars once again!

Yeah I managed to forget a lot of invisible-ing this time, not sure why. I'll clean it up soon. And I'm not sure what you meant about the scoreboard.

Sorry, I have trouble putting thoughts to words sometimes . I think you should take the base off the scoreboard so it can only be the top part since the ending is only one layer and move the top of the scoreboard (since it's now only on a flat layer) to the second flat layer. It would look better that way IMO since the ending has only one layer and not all 3 like the scoreboard does. Hope I said it better this time.

Can you do that with the scoreboard? I always thought it HAD to be 3 layers. Am I just an idiot?2009-12-14 23:31:00

No you aren't

Just use the material changer to change the base of the scoreboard to dissolve and set a switch to it and wam! There ya go!

you can go in an empty level and blow up the base with some bombs or some rockets. just make sure it blows the bottom up all the way other wise there will be some lingering pieces attached eventhough they are not touching it and will move all as one. You could make a thiner base by pasting a score board into another material and then deleting it. You will then have a hole that has the same exact shape of the base. You can then use this to cut a base shape out of any material and make it any thickness.

Dissolving it away is much less messy, Deboerdave.

What I do is turn it to dissolve, attach a mag key switch to it (the base), invert the switch, and connect it to the base. Unpause and you are done. The mag key switch dissolves away with the base.

I had some time this morning so I gave it a shot, I really enjoyed the level. Honestly, it's the first HARD level that is really fun at the same time. I don't know how the hell you do it because the layouts are all fairly simple but everything is just so much fun. When I died I didn't get angry like I usually do, I actually had fun when I died.

I gave it 5 Stars and a Heart. There is truly something magical about this level, it's definetly a mixture of the gameplay and visuals. The only bad part I found was the level icon, it was nothing special just like parts 1,2,3. I think you should make your own custom icon.

This level was a HUGE amount of fun - you really put a lot of time into thinking of fun little challenges that are really unique - you always offer some original spin on mechanics that I hadn't seen before. Nice job!2009-12-15 05:01:00

Once again another awesome level in the series. Definately the hardest yet, but still as fun as always.

One bug that was very noticeable right at the start - the magic mouth for the King activated immediately, then again when I got to where he was. I think this happens if you save the level paused with the magic mouths activated, so maybe you were standing in the proximity switch area when you last updated it? If you go into create and unpause for a few seconds then republish it should sort it out.

Loved this Captain. Most challengingly fun level I've played for a while, you hit that sweet spot of platforming loveliness again. The difficulty level is perfectly pitched, for me anyways. Some evil (in the best sense of the word!) gameplay in there!!2009-12-16 17:59:00

I'm back in Leeds with my ps3 now. High score hunting timeeeeeeeeee!

EDIT: Top scoreeeeeee with 5,231. Probably 2-3 (silly) deaths.

Found 3 secret areas, I'm guessing there may be before. I actually went hunting somewhere I shouldn't and it would make the perfect place for a secret area. Will tell you next time we're on chat!

Some awesome gameplay parts. The electric/gas panels moving side to side especially. This is something I've actually made myself, but to make it fit into the difficulty of my levels it was just too slow and boring.

Having difficult gameplay certainly can open up the possibilities at times!

Absolutely awesome!

(I like the height of the top scores as well. Definitely more satisfying as a player when you can keep track of where you're upto. It's much harder when you get into 10's of thousands and 10 x combos. It can end up meaning that one combo makes or breaks the top score!)

ARRGHGHhahhhahghhh I must have done that last night. There have been like 4000 mistakes in this level! Rats!

Hi Cap'n, this latest addition to your series was my most awaited sequel so far and it's about time you published it! Not as difficult as the previous 2 imo (Oceanside and Big Island), but fun nonethless. Hazards were brilliantly done, and some were quite original. Medium to Hard platforming, always a plus for me, lol. Encourages you to try to lace together score bubbles for the high score.

There was however a section that I felt was unfair due to visibility. It follows after the King informs you that you "must jump and hop" all at the same time, and you jump off the boat platform... it's a completely blind jump. I undershot a couple times and missed the platform; there's no way you can know what is expected of you before attempting this section.

Visually, quite different from your previous ones which appeared brighter and sunnier. This one seemed a lil darker and ominous. Overall, a compliment to the series. 5 stars and hearted.

Woo i've been loving these levels since the very first one. It's more mario than any of the mario clones and it's also wicked platforming... i luuuuuv it. I'm glad to see you're keeping the series going <32009-12-24 00:57:00

I played your series up to this recent episode. Loved it all the way! There were some very tricky spots, but since you used Infinite Checkpoints I'll forgive you.

I loved the humor of the King, funny as usual. The only really hard part of the level was when you're ascending the tower near the end, with the moving 'electric' walls. I also loved the more varied boss afterward. I was getting tired of the same old 'Wheel of Death'.

Looking forward to the Ice World. And then Pipe/Sewer (I assume) World, and then Dark World.
