Publishing WIPs?

Archive: 7 posts

Does anyone here actually publish their levels before they're 100% done to get feedback? I want some crits on mine but publishing seems quite daunting.2009-12-13 17:58:00

Many of us publish locked and give out keys, either via PSN or using a lockbox, then republish when they are finished. You can always invite friends over to your moon as well.

That way you get the feedback from selected people but don't need to worry about the masses getting their hands on your half-finished work.

What do you mean by lockboxes?2009-12-13 18:37:00

You can but the key to your level inside a lock, a lock level. The person play the lock level and takes the key since you gave the person the combination number per example.

I know of a good lock level, you should be able to copy it from Vortex2002's planet. At worse, ask him in PM he's a kind member here.

Aw shucks!

Yep - I have a free, copyable key room on my planet. Just copy it to your moon, go in and edit it to your liking. To change the combo, just move the mag keys over the number you want each tumbler to represent.

Hope this helps.

And to answer your question... I wouldn't publish a level without publishing it locked and getting beta testers for it first. Just remember that this locked time counts against your 7 days. So when you're ready to release it to the public, delete the locked version and republish your unlocked version in a different location - this will start a new 7 day clock for you.

Vortex, thats an awesome idea, hope you dont mind if I use that!

Also in relation to the question at hand I say yes, get it playable and use critical feedback to your advantage (will hopefully save having to change things later on!

Comphermc has a multiple keycode lock box that he built out of a modification of my ordered inputs tool. It's a little harder to understand, but you can make multiple codes (for multiple objects / keys etc) of any length all in the same interface.2009-12-13 20:18:00
