Alien vs Predator

Archive: 47 posts

Noticed there's no thread on this game, releasing in February on PS3, Xbox360 and PC.

Personally it is one of my most anticipated titles of next year! I seriously cannot wait.

For those of you that don't know much about it, it's pretty much a remake (though different story and such) of the Alien vs Predator titles that were released on PC about 10 years ago (which spawned the average movies). I'm a huge fan of AvP2 (never actually played 1, but may do if its worth it) and I'm so glad they're doing another one!

Basically, there are 3 different story modes in the game. One you play as Predator, one you play as Aliens, and the other you play as Marines. Each play very differently and are equally awesome. From the looks of things, the new game is sticking to the formula well.

The marines story tends to be quite the horror game, as being the weakest of the lot you have to watch out for any aliens lurking in the shadows, and fighting up against predators is pretty tough. AvP2 had the horror nailed and I'm hoping this does the same. Here's a reveal trailer for Marines:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GljJpco0VZI

As the Aliens, in AvP2 you started off as the tiny little worm like baby and you had to sneak around and eat animals to grow and such, then as an adult you were hunting the Marines and when possible the Predators. This story relies heavily on stealth, and with the ability to climb on the walls, and jump nearly 100 meters at a time, and tear heads off people it was certainly awesome. Aliens only have melee attacks (a fair share though) so it was all about sneaking up and killing from behind. Here's the Alien reveal trailer for the new game:

Finally, the Predator story line. This is possibly my favourite, as you can pretty much play this one how you want. You have a ton of gadgets, a ton of vision modes, a pretty high jumping ability and a cloaking ability too. As the predator you played in more jungle like environments (and seem to in this one as well) and being the true hunter of the lot, this was a total blast. Check this out for the Predator reveal trailer:

And, there is ofcourse an online mode. There's quite a few different modes it seems, and this multiplayer trailer tells it best:

Anyone else psyched for this??
Anyone that wants to check out AvP2 on PC definatly should. Here's a demo:
http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/aliensversuspredator2/download_2826699.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=files&tag=files;title;1
I'd imagine nearly everyone can run it now since it's such an old game. Still awesome though, and decent looking for its day.

I really enjoyed both AvP games on PC, so I'm looking forward to this one. I'll wait for the first reviews/actual gameplay videos before deciding to buy or not though.2009-12-12 22:34:00

Wait, are you talking about Alien vs Predator or Aliens: Colonial Marines?

The developers of Alien vs Predator seem to make almost all crap games, so I'm skeptical about this.

I'm on about Alien vs Predator, check out the vids. And well these guys did the original Alien vs Predator game which was great (which paved way for the awesome AvP2) so I'm hoping these guys deliver The online could be awesome. All 3 against eachother... all with totally different ways of playing.

If your PC can run it (and I'm pretty sure it will considering how old the game is ) you should definatly check out AvP2 on PC. 2001 game. Seriously, it's still awesome despite the sub par graphics. They get the job done though, and the audio in it is awesome. You could probably pick it up for about 3 quid now

I think most dollar-store calculators could run it, lol.
It's a dinosaur, but man was it ever fun. I think the marines scenario got to fight against the Alien Queen, that was an epic fight.

My friend, the game AvP2 was released at the beginning of the PS2's life That game is certainly worth a play through I think. The PS3 version (just AvP) is out in feb Oh and a quid is a british term for pound (?). Im sure you can get it under $5.

The multiplayer kind of reminds me of that one game mode in Splinter Cell. What was it called? Spies vs. Mercenaries or something?

Epic bump...

Because the demo is out now and the game will be coming in a few days!

The demo is set for 8-player team deathmatches in a single, alien hive map where you can choose between alien, predator, or colonial marine. But it's very fun and the species and their abilities are very true to the movies .

Aliens are basically ground running creatures that can run on cieling and walls, and there are few things more epic in games than crawling on the cieling in the darness and stabbing unsepecting enemies with your tails...

Predators are very powerful warriors that have all kinds of weapons and abilities. Invisible stealth kills are very awesome, and predators also seem to have the most life and most powerful close-rang attacks.

Marines have the biggest assortments of weaponry and biggest range by far, not to mention the gun tracking, which makes it harder for enemies to catch you off-guard.

I think all three classes are evenly matched. The demo is creepy, fun, has fairly good graphics and is very intense-I know I'm getting this game!!! :hero:

The demo is free and fun, definitely worth getting. And here's a website link too for anyone who's interested: Website Link: http://www.sega.com/games/aliens-vs-predator/

The ps3 apparantly has some matchmaking issues, though that could be patched now. PC version had similar problems but that's patched now.

Anywho... I LOVE this game! I got it on PC and it really is exactly as I'd hoped. It took a while to figure out the controls, and it's a shame there's only deathmatch available, but it really is so fun and well balanced. I usually come out top of the game with whatever species I use so that seems balanced enough for me. Though when I was an alien onetime and was versing only 2 predators, they were camping and working together so that was lame and frustrating. Otherwise I love it. Can't wait for the full game, particularly single player.

I like how it's not as based on the alien vs. predator movies but takes most of its features straight from aliens (alien #2). Like the beeping gun, that's so creepy and awesome.

So far my best class is human, mostly because of the amazing-if-used-properly beeping gun tracker, but it's too creepy for me to play that much. lol. Aliens are the most fun to me.

Also, remember the marines' guns are actually motion trackers. Sneak up behind a human in the shadows, then stop when he turns around, and you won't appear on his map.

It's fun! And i like the way where you can rip and slice humans heads off.

I like the Humans reaction before you slice it. He looks at your tail, looks at you and goes <:O and the slice, he's dead. lolz

Question: Do humans have those sneak attacks too? I have no idea since I've never been able to sneak behind a predator or alien with a human.

Also: Whaaale, foofles, the multiplayer connection issue has been patched for the pc and will shortly be patched on the other systems too. Your best bet is to add friends and get into parties.

Thanks for the Radar tip Incinerator! I am so gunna use that to my advantage next time im an alien

To answer your Question, I believe they can do trophy kills but it's pretty **** hard. That's what I've heard. As for sneaking ones though, I'm unsure.
I FRAPS'd me getting a sneaky kill as Alien

Ive only just got the hang of blocking and being able to counter-act the trophy/stealth kills if you're fast enough. Very handy! And now im even more efficient when fighting 2010-02-09 23:05:00

I hate when I stealth-kill someone and someone then stealth-kills me while I'm doing so. I've saw a triple stealth kill once with three aliens that looked hilarious...

And anyhow, what do you mean you can block them, ryan? With the block button?

Well on PC (and PS3 & 360, just apply the correct buttons) as Alien or Predator if you hold down both attack buttons you block. If you do this and they quick strike you, you can then counter their strike by quick attacking straight after. This knocks them down, so then by pressing the same button for stealth kill straight after while they're on the ground you then get a trophy kill. WIN I think if you block at the right time when you've been grabbed, you get yourself out of it too. Happened a few times for me.

What do you mean? Normal attacks work fine. But, strategy-wise, it's best to sneak up on them instead of attacking them from the front. They're more powerful at close-range attacks.

So my game came a day early So far I've completed Marines and Aliens campaigns. The marines one is clearly the superior one here, as it lasts over twice as long and has a much better story. Half way through the Predator one, and this is probably my favourite. In terms of the game overall, it's real fun and I enjoy it, though its not groundbreaking or anything. Online is a blast too. Though I've only played as Predators in the few matches I played. (Though have played the demo tons anyway with the other species). The game is basically the same as it looks in the demo. However, there is a new move. As Alien or Predator, you can now cancel your Heavy attack into a block. This means you can lure an enemy (online or off) to hit you with a light attack, and when you trick them and block their attack you can then counter with a light attack and knock them over, giving you nicely rewarded trophy kill 2010-02-19 01:38:00
