Scroll of Eden: Mountain Path

Archive: 15 posts

*edit*

Mistake found thanks to JKiii. Level republished and mistake shown to entire world =P I also moved the Earth block down to the rest of the blocks. I THOUGHT it was a good clue for the player to know to go backwards (since it would be frustrating to start out with the sun) but rethought that it would be too confusing. So please play and rate again if you played the first version!

Level Name ? Scroll of Eden: Mountain Path

PSN ID ? OmegaDyne

My first LPB level is finally complete! After countless hours in these past few weeks of putting it together and trying my best to make everything perfect, I?m finally done with the level. I worked incredibly hard on this, so I hope everyone enjoys it. It's also the first level of a five level series I wish to make. The second level is already planned out, but I may take a little break until they patch up create mode.

I?d like to thank everyone who has helped me and given me courage to keep going when the bugs of create mode nearly made me quit.

A few notes: I?m sorry about the propeller. It's not supposed to look like that, and I had no way of changing it. Really, I tried. I guess the motor bolt shifted when I nudged the helicopter into place. I?m also sorry about the long, pointless trek up that hill. I was supposed to have a creature I made roll down it, but at the end I literally had no room. Seriously, I can?t even place a STICKER because the thermo is at its peak =P Finally, the bridge at the end didn?t pan out the way I wanted it to, especially with the glitch background that lasts a second. I?m kind of satisfied with it, but I wish I could have improved on it.

Again, I hope everyone likes it! It's my first level, and I learned as I went along, so I know my future levels will be much improved. Still, I?m glad at how it turned out and know my hard work was worth it.

*edit* A person who hearted the level took away the heart. Lovely. Anyways, all, I'm taking a break from LPB so I'll see you all around.

I really liked it =)

[SPOILER... maybe?]In the 3 color puzzle I had a bit of trouble getting the red object out, the rocks wouldn't let me do it, and in the blue object part I wonder if someone drop it by accident in the gap, what would happen... maybe break the whole level?[/SPOILER... maybe?]

Overall it was amazing, the small riddle was awesome and the ending scene was cool, I wish i had the patience to do this kind of stuff, maybe when they fix most of the bugs...

Thank you so much, ednan! I didn't want to make the red key frustrating to get out, but I also wanted it to feel like you were pulling it out of the rubble. I guess I went too overboard, huh? And for the blue key.. I spent a good many hours making sure every obstacle you have to get by was resettable. So if it fell in a pit, it would just disappear and wind up back in it's original place. Same goes with everything else that moves. Anyways, I'm glad you liked it ^_^2009-12-12 01:01:00

Hey ChronoDyne,

That was your first LBPP level? Wow...I'm impressed. This level had a lot of solid gameplay and longevity. I guess my only suggestion would be to decorate the level as I felt some portions felt a bit bare. Also, I felt the chase scene at the end, although ambitious and cool in theory, ended up being unenjoyable because of the lag and glitches. When I died and respawned, I ended up chasing the boss. In addition, there were moments when the background image disappeared. And the camera was also a bit off. I think the boss must be within view to create the tension, but there were times when the camera angle disappeared and I felt like I was just strolling across a bridge...

But I guess this was out of your control. It was still an awesome level, and the puzzles really made you think! Good job. 4/5 stars.

Laying on the soft, sunlit grass,

Thank you so much for you response, jeffcu28! Yeah, I know what you mean about the end.. I guess I got too ambitious. See, I couldn't get the positioning of the camera any such way for the background not to glitch out. I don't know if it was more the camera or the giant boss, because I WANTED the view to be what it was when it first pops up, but the background kept vanishing and I didn't want the player playing with a blue background. And I guess I set up the emitter wrong =/ Man, my image for that scene was so different. In another thread here you'll see me asking for help on how to get the creature over, and you'll see I wanted it to shoot fire balls and have you jumping over obstacles and such.. it just didn't work =( I test played that portion many times, and he spawned correctly for me each time after dying. Oh, and yeah, I wanted to decorate it more, but my thermo was literally at the tip. I couldn't place anything anymore, including a single sticker. It's a lesson learned, since I will be more thorough in my planning for my next level.

Btw, JKiii found a mistake in the level that allowed the player to go out of the map, so I republished, so if you two (and whoever else who played it) can play and rate again, I'd really appreciate it ^_^

Well I see you already saw the videos.

Well i'm too tired to leave annotations on the videos. But it was amazing, now its the current record for longest level, and you pretty much saw the problems i had and what to fix (too tired to see which ones you fixed)

Yup, noticed you uploaded the first part after I finished looking at the Harp of Season one. Thank you so much for the video up load and your comment, as well as showing me what I had to fix. Did you HAVE to cheat during the blue key area? =P I never even thought of that.

To be honest, the visuals could be better and I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't add everything that you wanted (that empty corridor was obviously lacking something), but it was a really good level anyway. I enjoyed it a lot.

The area with the puzzles to get the three coloured stones was a masterpiece. I was really impressed with that section (and I was actually planning something similar to the TNT one, but now I'll change it). The last puzzle (where you had to put the blocks in the correct order) was very well thought, I love that kind of hard but completely logic puzzles. The bridge scene was very intense, too.

Congratulations on your first level. It had some of the best puzzles that I've seen on LBP PSP, so the efforts were worth it. I'll be looking forward to your next levels.

5 stars, hearted level & author.

Hi!
Some feedback from me too:
It seems to be a really long level (even if i couldnt finish it)
I couldnt get the tnt to the rocks. That wagon seemed to be too heavy to pull it up there.
In some parts the level looked kind of empty. There were long distances to run now and then.
But there are many nice ideas in it!
I hope this may help u.

greets!

Thanks for the comments, guys! I really appreciate it, and I'm glad you liked it.

I'm wondering if I made the beginning too hard? I only have 14 plays, but a star rating of three XD I mean, I've seen some really, REALLY bad levels with three stars and more plays. Kinda demoralizing.. I'm hoping people don't just play until the spike area and just 1 star it. I did work for like 70 hours on this level after all =(

What should I do? I can change the spike area a bit alter the camera angle to make it less difficult, and I could also bring down that hill a bit to make it easier to get the TNT cart up. Or should I just wait it out and let it run it's course?

For a few seconds I thought the TNT part was broken, maybe making it a bit easier will be better, but don't worry with numbers, they will add up, just enjoy playing/creating

Oh yeah I forgot about that , well when i noticed what you really had to do, I thought "aw crap now i gotta spend 5 minutes dragging those boxes up there" then i noticed the gaps and how it could be possible to jump and grab over them.

Don't worry I'll leave annotations on that in the future. When i get around to it.
