Hannah has lost her brother Benjamin in the Temple of the Sun and asks for your help to find him. That is ofcourse easier said than done since the Keeper of the temple has gone mad, and will do everything he can to stop you.

Hey guys and gals. Posted my first level two days ago, and would love to get some feedback on it.

The Temple of the Sun is a cute little level full of colors, secrets and multiple paths that I really think is worth checking out if you like a challenge, point huntin, beautiful scenery and loads of hidden stuff.

Give it a go if you feel for it and don't forget to throw me a link to the level you want feedback on

Story: Nice opening with the young girl. A good platformer doesn't provide an extremely long winded explanation - it lets the level speak for itself. I found the little brother... but not on the first try. Was it supposed to be so well-hidden? I figured that the little brother would be somewhere beyond the temple God, behing held captive or something.

Gameplay:I really enjoyed the platforming. Everything was so perfectly adjusted so that the slightest misalignment could cost you your life. I'm definitely going to keep playing it because I know I can get that top score . There are quite a few tantalizing hidden areas that I can see, but can't figure out how to get to. This adds a lot to the replay value of the level. My only complaint was that it was too short . When it ended I craved more.

Visuals: Not a big fan of color correction usually, but I think in this instance it actually made the mood of the level better. Also, sometimes I find that an abundance of decorations can be ugly and distracting, but I think you made really pleasant use of the decoration set.

Hazards: Like I said, the hazards were well placed. The swing sections weren't simple like many platformers - you had to be holding the right part of the swing or you'd come too low and hit the hazard. The boulder run is pretty tight. If you start running a little too late it's over for you - this is a good challenge. The climax with the boss is well done. I'm a big fan of multi - part encounters. I had a lot of trouble landing the last jump when you swing off the boss though, and a few times I died because of plain unluckiness with the timing of the bombs dropping.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing the level, and I plan to play it a few more times today. I'll be hearting you so I can check out your future work, can't wait! Great job!

Five Stars + Hearted.

Just tried it, and i found this Leel very cool...but also ery Hard...

U got many mean Traps inside, that need really exact and fast Timing...like u say at the Ending...only for true Heros

I think using endless Live Checkpoints would make it less frustrating, if u die and die & and have to start the whole Leel again...

But i really liked it...der Boulder Run is coola, also the thing with the EndBoss...

Some of the light Effects i found a little bit too much...but all in all a cool Level...

I will play it again...

Maybe u check out my "GreatMayaTemple"

Bit late, but yea - better late than never (been a busy week!)

Thanks a lot for the comments guys. Glad you liked the level. It's been kinda hard to find a balance that suits most players in terms of difficulty, but I've added a lot of small stuff that should streamline it all a bit more (without helping too much).

I'm still not sure about the rolling rock to be honest. I've fixed the emitter so it only spawns 2 times now (in case a player should miss more than that), but I think its turns a lot of players off.

Same with the last boss. I know some camera panning would definitely help, but I think if people actually stopped up and looked around the room for a sec, then it wouldn't be so frustrating. (Used to be 2,5 sec - double life checkpoint, and 1 sec on the stompers in there heh).

Anyways I've played through your Maya temple a couple of times now Joe - same with your levels Lieufa So look for detailed comments on those (Bit ashamed im this late, sorry bout that).

Thanks again!

Jusr finished it and noticed I was the only one on the board! That must be a bug right?
Anyhow, your level is not "too hard" but certainly harder than what the mainstream LBP audience expect. This shouldn't stop you from making levels that have a decent difficulty. I died 4-5 times in your level there but it was nothing short than satisfying nonetheless.
People must be dying at the flaming boulder part and most probably give up at the boss. Actually he's not THAT hard, maybe just hard to figure out for many people. Jumping on a fire block to propel yourself (wich is totally awesome) isn't the first thing the regular player thinks about. :/

Pros:

-Nice use of decoration + default ground
-Tight gameplay with a nice difficulty

Cons:

-Boos room can be confusing for people
-There's no part in the level that made me go "wow". Note that it's not mandatory to wow me. I'm just trying to put my finger onto what's missing in there. It's a good level but there's something that didn't catch me.

:star::star::star:

Definetely worth playing. Keep up the good work!

I just played this level on a whim, and I'm glad I did! It was fun, and tricky without being mean. The visuals were delightful, but my biggest complaint is that the song you used for most of the temple seemed out of place once I got to the harder stuff. It was fine at first, but it started to seem odd once I was dodging and dying repeatedly!

Four stars and a "fun" tag from me!

Alright guys. Thanks for all the comments. Glad you like the level

I've added some pictures to my original post

Updated the level :

Added different music at the part you mention Captain.

Removed a lot of score-bubbles - and added some new. Better positioning in general.

Made the platform you have to land on after the rolling rock longer.

Added a lot more dialogue to further develop a story.

+ minor changes here and there

Would love to get some more feedback - and are willing to do more f4f's

Cute, even pretty but deceivingly challenging as well. Your platforming requires precision in a few sections which I think explains the comments on it being hard. Imo, you've struck a good balance. I too died a couple times at the boss simply due to the bombs falling overhead. Perhaps you can rearrange the camera angle so it gives the player more view of the top in order to avoid the bombs. Good placement of score bubbles - opportunity for lacing together some combos and getting the high score. Nice coloring and lighting all around. A heart and 5 stars. :-)2009-12-21 19:07:00

Hello,
Great level. First of all - design is detailed and I can only imagine how much time you spent on making sure it looks nice. So the first impression was very good. Leaf decorations are excellent!
I also liked a lot the last part with the two levers you had to pull in order to get to the higher ground.

The only thing I would change - but that's my personal preference! - is the lightning. In some spots it's a little bit too bright, and in one section it's too dark. Part when you have two spinning wheels with spikes was difficult for me to get through because I failed to notice the details. But that's me...

Other than that - really great level!!

"Leave my handles alone!" - best line I've read in a level in a loooong time!

I love the look of this one. Nothing too manipulated, nothing insane, but everything has a nice visual flow and looks... awesome. Flowers were a nice choice for accents in your sun temple. Liked the look of your Sun-kid also.

I took the hidden path near the beginning, so maybe I missed some of the hard parts people are talking about. I found this to be just right in terms of difficulty. Shenoa's point about good bubble placement is spot on. Boss was decent, but it might have been cool to have a little more to do than pull 3 switches.

While there weren't really any new gameplay ideas here, you picked a good set of old favorites and used them well.

Cool stuff dude.
